  1. Really didn't understand the criteria. QB was offensive player of the year (with Spralls at Tyner) in the toughest 2A region in the state but received neither Best of Preps or All State consideration. RB was Running Back of the Year in the region. Both played LB on the best defense in the history of the school (lowest points allowed) and QB also punted. The best reward is the comments of those who actually watched or played in the games. Comments from Coach Turner, Coach Ross, Coach Grider, their players, staffs, etc. as they went through the line after the games hold much more credibility and value.

    Most sad
  2. This entire thread has to be the most jumbled piece of garbage. Supposed to be about Boyd and Marion and then all the pirate junkies pirate the thread and talk about garbage. Pure garbage. You guys must live on here. And your English? Do you have a problem speaking clearly? I'm out of here.

  3. Saw the box score and stats in out of town paper. I must admit from what I saw last year sounds like Boyd thinks they can run with the big boys again. 10 passes? Won't cut it in big game against top tier teams. Dropped passes or not could be because the receiver guys are surprised when they see a ball coming their way. The option thing Boyd runs with the running back or QB just won't work consistently against better teams with more speed. Not sure who the receiver guys are this year but that big TE/split guy would have at least 10 come his way every game. Surely they have some other decent receiver to help as well. Haven't been to a game yet this year and still pull for the Bucs, but is odd when I see the amount of rushes they have in games. Hope it is not a selfish thing and the offense opens up against the better teams. Without it Boyd will not take advantage of the weapons they have and will struggle against the better teams. My ramble foe the year.

  4. We have got to get the ball to #9 and #2 in the passing game early. We open that up and the run game will be there. This is a game we should win based on what little I've seen of kings.

I won't be making an official pick this week as there just isn't enough information to do so.

Based on what I saw last year passing game and early don't mix at Boyd. Bland at times. What happened to #86? Did he transfer to another school where they throw it more?
  5. I agree the quality of athlete is much better. One of the key differences is the academics. The team GPA is around 3.2 I think with several 4.0 guys. Football is gravy but you get a lot of attention when a school can hand you academic money to help you come there to play football. # 5 is definitely a prospect but will probably play college baseball. Great kid with good grades and showing up well at all the baseball camps. #1 has really good grades and will play somewhere. #2 does well in the classroom and will have an opportunity somewhere. #86 has been offered by Davidson and Cumberland with heavy interest from Bucknell, ETSU, etc. He does really well in the classroom. He will play somewhere. #10/21 has good grades and has interest from schools in that Maryville College, Sewanee, etc. level. I missed a bunch of guys in that senior class but know they are all headed to college and do pretty well in the classroom. I expect the interest will heat up for these guys after the season starts. The lesson here is the classroom performance opens up so many options because there are really good schools that can't give full athletic rides. These guys compete in the classroom as much or more than they do on the field. They are making their own breaks. It drives me nuts to listen to parents complain about the coaches or someone else not giving their kid recruiting love or promoting them when they emphasized the field performance and not the classroom all through high school. Self inflicted wounds here. Also, these high priced camps like Football University prey on the parent's belief that their kid is a 4 or 5 star. Tell them what you want to hear about your son and take their money to keep them coming back. Big business.

nice update on kids. Find it impressive with some of the schools listed, especially the early offers. Even more impressive is the focus on grades and the doors that opens. In the long run that is what counts. Great lesson learned
  6. My opinion best player on the team is #1. I think it's his number. He was freshman last year I think played safety. He was most athletic to me and was all over the ball, pass or run. If he is 6'2 now and playing offense I think he is a special player. He will play at small next level. Bank on it. And remember I said it.

Being an ex NAIA small school player years and years ago, I think the quality of athlete these days is much better than when I played.  I always follow local players around the area if they continue their career.  Anyone know of any upcoming Boyd seniors that are on any radars, have desire, have early offers, etc.?

  7. If you can't pound it at Bledsoe, Meigs and Polk then Boyd can't make much noise in the east. The good Boyd teams over the years ran the ball 75% of the time. If you want to be good then they better be able to do it in 2015. JMO

My point exactly.  Just because Boyd could run and smash in years past does not mean they need to do it all the time.  Times changes, players change, etc.  Who cares what Boyd did over the years?  A good coach and program will adjust to the type players they have, regardless. Boyd has a good passing team. Why not use it?  Because they have not in the past?  Makes no sense to me.  As Sqatch says, use the passing game to it's advantage, and the defense will never know what is coming at them.  From the few games I saw last year, any subpar coach could figure out what Boyd was going to do on offense.  Without the dominate line, smashmouth running the football just will not work.   Perplexes me why if you have the athletes to have a dominate passing game, why it would not be used.  I'm old and grey, but you guys sound even more old school than me!

  8. The 7 on 7 circuit has started. Boyd went down to Lafayette, Ga. for an event with 7-8 teams there. LFO, Lafayette, Christian Heritage, Sonoraville, Walker Valley, North Murray, etc. were there. Played 7 games. Went 6-1 losing first one to North Murray. Good to watch some football although it was the touch variety.

How does the Boyd passing game look? The primary receiver guy from last year is gone, correct?  Boyd looking to use #86 more instead of a last option this year?  That guy is dangerous when he gets the ball... big and fast... Any other receiver guys stepping up?  Boyd has good QB that can throw it around, and would be shame if they don't use the right concepts for the individuals they have.  I know Boyd has historically been a smash mouth type football team, but I did not see any big type lineman that can move people around when the defense knows you are going to run every play.

  9. Ok, maybe just a stuid question being new to this board, but South Pitt went to the state finals last year, correct?  Was all this stuff this entire thread talks about identified last year, or was it ok because SP had a successful year?  Is this entire conversation only because SP had younger, or less talent available this one year than previous years?   Just odd how a team can make the State finals one year and everything is hunky dory, and then the next year SP 'preceived controllers' are ready to run their coach out of town.   Odd.

  10. When we played Boyd, we had our best LB out with shoulder injury.  He is also one of the three top RBs.   Lost starting center in first quarter.  We were driving the ball down their throat before turning it over.  We got the ball right back but lost all momentum.

What has Boyd got to do with this? No one person could have stopped a 41-0 blowout against a totally inferior team. Geeesh
  11. Bucs tried to pass too much. Rockwood isn't physical up front. A good team will rip them. Thought Boyd played about like their season. They did just enough to lose. Game should've been 28-10 after pick 6 but refs thought otherwise. Poorly officiated game. Rockwood kept running the ball and Boyd didn't. To me that wasn't biggest difference

Refs just bad overall. Buc play calling after first drive was horrible. Passing when they should be running. Running when they should be passing. Looked totally out of sync against a totally inferior defense. That's the sad part. What happened to 5 and 86 in second half on offense? Both where tremendous weapons that got overlooked. 10 went to 21 too much, who was having a rough night.

Boyd wins this game 8 out of 10 times. Tonight was one of the 2 they lose. Congrats Rockwood, but Boyd better overall athletes and just had an off night.

  12. This is a year where I believe it's very possible for Rockwood to out athlete Boyd. Aside from the difficult task of stopping Long #1, you can go ahead and put that #6 to the list as well along with the bulldozer at fullback. I don't think Boyd slipping by Rockwood the past 2 times is kgoing to affect what happens in this game. Rockwood keeps rolling and takes this one by two touchdowns.

Out athlete? 10 good runner and throws well. 3 and 5 great tandem rbs. 21 tall fast receiver. 86 best overall TE I have seen with speed hands and blocking. Other than 10 all play d. Speaking of d, 1 and 54 eat up with plays. Speaking of plays, 6 can take to house on special teams any day. Bunches of athletes from few games I saw live and on tv.

    Boyd by 17

  13. Go ask Coach L then come back and apologize.

The coaches don't listen to me at all except to allow me to paint the field and move equipment

And yes my grudge against Silverdale is personal. Come talk to me about it. I'm not hard to find as everyone knows who I am.

Seriously big guy. Check for yourself and then be man enough to come back and tell us what you found out.

As an ex school administrator it is appalling to constantly put another school down.. Shooting birds, acusing other schools of cheating, taking about Dii and money and what it means to Boyd, and now cops. Some things are just better off left unsaid. I hope others do not think you speak for the Boyd nation.
  14. Coach L was yelling instructions to the team from the top of the press box. SD fans told him to stop. He didn't. They had cops waiting for him when he came down. Lol

They told him they were escorting him out. He said they were going to walk him out the front door. He told them he was on the bus and was going to the bus so they threatened to arrest him.

Slice, I don't know you from Adam, but your personal grudge against Silverdale is very obvious. Some of the stuff you say on here is so ridiculous it's not even funny. If anyone believed half of the stuff you say... Cops? Such a made up lie to make Silverdale look even more crazy than they are. I'm a Boyd backer all the way, but your stuff is just plain stupid. It does nothing but make Boyd look bad in the eyes of a lot of what people read.. Yea, I'm an old timer, but be respectable. Your rants and constant posts for Boyd would make one appear that you are in charge of the entire program and coaches listen to you. I can not imagine that.

  15. Good win by Bucs. #21 ran hard. Boyd defense too strong on outside and eliminated most any big gains. Offense was clicking when needed, and outside blocking was tremendous allowing big runs. Loy's of nice looking athletes on Boyd's side (3, 5, 21, 54, 86), with some nice defensive plays overall. QB can pass, but was not really needed tonight. Game over when special teams blocked punt and got TD. Had respect for Copper Basin. Played hard, but Boyd just better overall team.

  16. You pirate guys confuse me...8 of 13 and 166 yards and 2 TDs and Boyd focuses too much on pass? Didn't make game , but watched on TV. The two big receivers (21 86)had mismatches all night, QB was rarely under pressure, and BB could have taken much more advantage of that than what they did. Stats I saw actually had SP passing more than BB, and BB puts too much priority on passing? Guess this ole timer says you do what works and stick to it.

  17.

I'm pretty sure it will be close one way or the other. The private schools usually have a big advantage in the kicking game. Close games can surely come down to an extra point or even a fg. Being at home can be an advantage also. I wouldn't be shocked either way. Good luck to both and hope both comes out healthy.

Would need to better understand why 'pivates', like Boyd, have a big advantage in the kicking game...Maybe Baylor/McCallie, but Boyd?  Makes absolutely no sense to me to make that type of comment, grouping Boyd with those other type privates.

  18. As bad of a start to the season that BB has, they could honestly end the season at 5-5.  S. Pitt and Cooper could go either way.  Last year they end at 4-6 and somehow get a first round bye. Anything could happen although this isn't the BB team from '11 or '12 that ended at 9-1

Was not around from '11 or '12, but found the teams BB played during those years.  Really hard to judge, but those schedules were not even close to the same caliber BB has played the past 2 years.  Boyd did play Notre Dame a few years back and it was a total blow out.  Was it because Boyd was so good, or because Notre Dame was so bad?  My gut says Notre Dame was not even close to the strength they are today.

  19. I believe all privates will be in D2 soon. I really like the fact that Boyd and DCA try to play on a regular basis, usually this is a good game with evenly matched programs. Even if they put all privates in one division, Webb will still dominate the small division until someone else steps up.

Webb has dollars. It's all about the money.
