  1. Flipper's main concern is what's best for the school...which is raising money...he was always concerned about the gait and freeloaders, so I'm sure that streaming the game live goes against his system of raising funds...

I can tell you that  according to the man himself, liberty  was able to raise a ridiculous amount of funding over his tenure...a number that absolutely blew  me away...

as far as the All Star Games are concerned...Flipper may have been around when Williams and Greene began the basketball game...but the football game was solely Steve Hookfin's idea and it was carried out by himself and then AD Kenyan Wright (Flipper and Williams had already moved on to bigger and better things)...the volleyball game began last year and was single handedly put together by Liberty's volleyball coach

Had Dr. Murray not been removed from her position, I doubt the volleyball game would be taking place as she felt that Liberty would be looked down on for hosting multiple events along those lines...such as you guys are mentioning now...Liberty wont even host the Jackson Jamboree, and they've been asked multiple times...

lastly...the All Star Basketball game was held in Ripley in 2016 for whatever reason, not at liberty like years past

not upset...just thought I would pass along some facts and inside info before this got out of hand

Cant dispute any of this because I only know what I know... I have stated what I know.

  2. I'm going to take back what I said, you're right. Just a note on Flipper, while he had his tenure at Liberty, ePlus 6 TV station was never allowed to do games at Liberty. Why? I don't know, probably have to ask Flipper in court in the next few days! But while WNWS was allowed to do their games across Jackson (before them and USJ partner up), they were allowed to go to Liberty and call football games there. And that was before they started to steam their telecast online. I thought it was funny and curious to see that Liberty is hosting all of these all-star games for some reason. The football, basketball, and volleyball all-star games are at Liberty and I think it was started when Flipper was there (was Flipper the one that actually started it? I don't know for sure). The baseball and softball ones are just down the street (I can honestly careless, just thought about saying it).

Mr. Rich, it seems like you have some ties to the media. If you somehow have the correct data that streaming games online does not ruin the gate, try to tell him and persuade him (which you probably have already). However, I will say from other Liberty people that I've talked to in the past, Flipper has a thing where Flipper wants to do only what Flipper wants to do! Milan is an amazing town to grow up in! You get to see their city for a while because of the ridiculous drop in the speed limit! As we all know, the citizens will always support their Bulldogs, hibernate in the winter, and support their baseball team! That's how things roll there!

Thanks for your insight! By the way, just to clear up some things, I'm not by no means, a Milan supporter.

    HAHAHAHA!!!! this is great.

I love the quote about the " ridiculous drop in speed limit " you should be a comedian. Man I have a Milan address. When I first bought my house my kids were zoned for Milan schools. I don't have any hate for Milan. Milan is great small town that offers a ton. If you look at my tag on volnation I claim I am from Medina/Milan TN  I'm really in the middle. Come up to the press box before the game Friday for a quick interview.

I watched the SGC - Milan Play in game in baseball and the atmosphere was just like a FBall game just not as many people. Milan won BTW

  4. The best thing Medina can do to further ignite this rivalry is just win baby. One day I think this will be each schools biggest rivalry but medina has to remind Milan what it's like to lose to "little brother"

     couldnt agree more!!!

    JUST WIN BABY!!!

Thats a tall order but JUST WIN BABY!!!!  i like the attitude.

  5. You need to tell the whole truth Mr. Rich.  The "Media" IS allowed to broadcast football games in Milan.  Live radio broadcasts are more than welcome there.   The  only media not allowed to do a LIVE broadcast at Milan is television, or video streaming.  If my information was correct, you would have been welcome to do a live audio stream

    Mr Reitz,

I will be careful with my words here. I guess your term " whole truth " is subjective and depends on perspective. So I will give you my perspective on it.

We have covered over 120 games in the last 6 years at a ton of high schools in both BBall and FBall around the area ( if you count our home base and all of the games they have covered the number is in excess of 600 plus games) . We have had nothing but welcomed arms from ALL of the schools we have been at.

The words I used are the exact words that flipper told our management in regards to the coverage in last years game.

I find it funny that Milan had zero problems with us covering SGC vs Milan BBall games or FBall games before flipper showed up. Fact of the matter I personally covered several of those games. Both on the FBall field and in the Gym.

This is not a knock on Milan in any way. Milan fans know that what we are doing is good for not only our kids but there kids as well. There is no such thing as bad press. We cover all of the kids. We have players to watch for both teams, and we want BOTH teams to have family and friends that are not able to attend the game in person to be able to watch the action live. This is great coverage for BOTH schools not just SGC.

Perhaps a few of the Milan kids have family members that live out of state and would love to watch there family member play but simply can't. Now anyone in the world can listen and watch live. This is great!!! If you can't see that your blind.

We have tons and tons of data to prove that it has zero affect on the gate.

So is flipper blocking us from doing it? The answer is Yes. Its all flipper. We never had a problem before he showed up and as soon as he did he blocked us from streaming the game.

I have several friends that are Milan alum and are great people. Milan high produces a great product with its graduates ( just look at its ACT scores ). Milan is a proud town and has every right to be. I'm certain that flipper is not something they are proud of and glad his time at the helm is over.

You wanted the " whole truth " there you have it.

    GO HORNETS!!!!

    we gunna beat those dawgs!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Why wouldn't you want Liberty to win? If Milan wins all we will hear is how many semi finals they've reached in however many years...if Liberty wins, it's just "well they were suppose to be there"

That's just 1 more thing for Milan fans to hold over Medina

Its real simple. Because I am a homer. If my hornets cant win it I want a local team from Gibson county to win it.

I went to the Trenton - Union City game last year to cheer and pull for the team from Gibson county because I am a Homer. I don't get it bent out of shape. If my Hornets cant win it I'm pulling for the closest team to home for me to go all of the way.

  7. Also, With the above post being said I want to say that I tip my hat to the bulldog nation. The town really gets behind the players and the teams. I think this is great and they have shown Medina what it takes to be a successful program. I'm not pulling for Milan obviously but I do respect what Milan has done as a town to get behind its football team. They are committed to winning from the top down and that is what it take to be successful in the most competitive sport in high school sports. Not to mention I have been accused of having a man crush on your football coach. That's really not true but I love the way he coaches his kids and plays to there abilities.

  8. Good post! However, in the last paragraph, do you blame Flipper? It gets the people to come to Milan and spend $5-$7 dollars at that gate and not just sent at home and watch it online.

Man we have tons and tons of data that proves what we do has zero affect on the gate.... The last game of the year it was standing room only at the game. Perhaps Milan should bring some bleachers with y'all for this Fridays night. We have more viewers after the game than we do during the the game. Also Milan is the ONLY school that has ever stopped us from broadcasting a game ( not just SGCHS but USJ, TCA, Crockett, Chester , Haywood). So yes I do put it on Flipper. Hopefully he doesn't track my movements after this post. I don't really care for the guy if you wanna know the truth. Milan is a proud school system and has a TON of stuff to be proud of to let a guy like Flipper be the main representative of your high school.

  9. don't think that will happen Steven...SG was 7-0 versus teams that had a combined record (at that time) of 8-40...and they had some close games against them...they've played 2 of the 3 "big boys" and lost by a combined 70-7....Milan by 4 td's or I'll buy you a corn dog at Sonic...but only on 50 cent night...lol....and with Milan-SGC being such an intense "instant rivalry"...why are there only 2 pages on this topic?...let's talk some trash Milan-SGC fans...but leave our mothers out of it...lol....

    Great post!

This really is a great rivalry. I guess for SGC Milan is the big dog on the block and most people that live around here know or work with people from Milan so that adds to it.

I agree SGC did not have a tuff schedule for the first 7 games. Like I said in my original post on paper milan should win big. They have a ton of horses in the stable and its going to be hard to trip them up. BUT this is a rivalry... I believe SGC will pull out anything and everything they have to score some points and hopefully we can force Milan into about 9 turnovers or maybe 10!!!

I dont get into the smack talk side of it unless I know you and know you well. I take things to personal so I dont even participate in it.

I do honestly believe that Milan has the best shot to beat Liberty in the playoffs so I wish yall nothing but the best except for this Friday. I hope half the players on the team get a raging case of the squirts and maybe fungus of the knee and slows em down for the game!

Good clean rivalries are good for both towns!!! It brings a lot of press, butts in seats. ( unless its at Milan and Flipper will not allow the media to broadcast the game because he doesn't want it to " negatively affect his gate ". Also its good for the kids because they will talk about these games for the rest of their lives.

    GO HORNETS!!!!!!!!

  10. On paper Milan should win.....But this is the biggest rivalry for both schools and you gotta love this week!!!  SGC has nothing to lose and will try some crazy! On paper Milan should win but we have a history of giving the dawgs a close game. We shall wait and see. I hope SGC can pull some magic out of the hat and get a HUGE win this Friday. Upset of the year. I have ate my crow the last 2 weeks and its starting to taste pretty good.  SGC pulls a shocker!

    SGC 21

    Dawgs 20

  11. Nah, the first year SGC played Dyersburg was in 2013. That was a really good Dyersburg team, up 28-7 after one.

It would be interesting to see Dyersburg match up against the 2012 SGC

True True!!! I was thinking DBurg has been in region since we started. Im wrong your right.

Still think Fridays game is going to be close.

  12. This is a big game for both teams.

For some reason DBurg and SGC always play tight ball games. I think Dburg leads the all time series 2-5. Should be a lot of fun to watch.

DBurg also has the nicest facilities I have ever been to and every time I have been there all the people are nice a delightful. Looking froward to making the trip.

  13. For some reason my account got locked and it took me a few days to get it situated. I really wanted to post my thoughts about this game before the game.

With that being said I honestly thought that SGC would play with tech for a while. I knew that we were out gunned and could not match them player for played but I honestly thought we would play with them.

I predicted the upset of the year SGC 28 tech 27.....

Well obviously I was very very wrong. I will eat my crow. We got out played and just simply had no answer for the balanced attack that tech showed.

I tip my hat to tech. They jumped out to an early lead and we never had a chance to recover. Tech has a ton of talent and wish them nothing but the best.

I guess I was looking with my orange tented glasses but tech has 5 kids that have Div. 1 offers to play football for them. SGC has zero.

SGC has several good players and most of them return for next season.... I think we have 14 juniors with starting roles.

Lastly I want to thank the tech players for being classy and not being jerks. I heard from several players that played in the game liberty never got nasty or became ####$%y on the field.

So my full plate of crow is served up and I will eat it up.

    Go Hornets!!!

  14. It is admirable to see how a town the size of Milan continues to have such good football teams. The fact they have been coached by John Tucker or Jeff Morris for years has helped sustain their foundation.

2 coaches in 50 years is absolutely remarkable!!

It really was a great game. Glad I go to to see it live and in color.

  15. I called milan in close game.

    Milan 36

    USJ 32

I missed by 1 point on both teams. It was a great game. Both teams played hard and glad I got to see it in person. USJ is a fine team and they are VERY well coached. I had this game marked to see since the spring when they first announced that they were going to play it. Congrats to Milan.

  16. Really looking forward to watching this game.

    Power run team VS

    Power pass team

I honestly dont think either team can stop the other teams offense. Im going with the dawgs in this one. Last person with the ball in a high scoring affair.

    Milan 34

    USJ 31

  17. Agree completely, I don't understand why the growth of Medina is so down looked other than the misconception that SGC students only live in Jackson.

One thing at the end did you mean to say SGC has never beaten WV in Martin?

Yes sorry. Sgc has never beat WV in Martin. TYPO.

Noah,  SGC better come ready to play or we are going to get our first loss. I just got done watching some film on the chargers and they have done some good things from what I see. They had a close game with the almighty dawgs with about 7 left on the clock in the 3rd.

Also I am not used to seeing WV throw the ball around the yard as much as they have this year.

  18. They are building a new elementary school.

The high school, middle school, and the elementary school will all be called South Gibson in the future.

As far as the comment about the " north " Gibson county falling apart I cant respond to because I have not been in the school for several years. But when I was there it looked to be in good repair. I still love the " pioneer " lifestyle area that is directly in front of the school. I walked my kids around there and had some cool conversations about how far we as people have come in the last 100 years.

Please remember that people on this end of the county pay taxes as well. I know it seems like " they get everything down there and we get nothing " We have had 3 new schools built in the last 15 years..... I honestly can see where people that don't understand what has happened would say that. Is growth of your county and tax base not what everyone wants? Gibson county should love Medina because most of the people that live here don't work here because the jobs are not here but the county gets the benefit of all of the tax dollars from the new homes and the new businesses that have opened here. We went from a town smaller than Kenton to a town bigger that the capital city of the county in less that 20 years.... That should put it in perspective.

I believe Medina is now the 2 biggest city in the county. The school system was forced to address the issues of overcrowding in the schools down here. They HAD to do something. The middle school has 3rd - 8th grade under 1 building with 1 principal and 2 assistants.

We really are one system. People get to caught up with the North vs the South like its the confederates vs the union it causes division and I don't like it one bit. There is a ton of stuff to love about this county and that's why I live here. Gibson county has massive foot print and the school system couldn't rely on Milan and Humboldt educating its kids that lived on this end of the county anymore.

Anyone that says why didn't they just have there kids come to the schools we already had here is ridiculous. I have heard that stupid statement several times. If you had to bus your kids 50 minutes just to get to school and 50 minutes to get back home from school you wouldn't want that either. Its not good for the kids, the parents, and any sports program. ( or band )
I will not get into a debate about this over who is right or wrong I just wanted to share my thoughts about it.

Lastly... how about we talk about some Football.

SGC is going to have to play well if they plan to win this game. The records are very deceptive but I do believe SGC will win by double digit points. With that being said if we turn the football over and give the chargers some momentum we could be in for a long night. SGC has never beat Westview in Martin.

    SGC 34

    Westview - 22

  19. This is really going to test the secondary of the dawgs. Just as a high school football fan im really looking forward to this game. This is kinda the run vs the pass.... who wins in the in end?  Ill take milan.

    Dawgs - 38

    Bruins - 34
