  1. Obviously a 30 second clip doesn't tell you much. I would love to see Community and Upperman play. Upperman starts one 6'6" and one 6"4" and has another 6' 4" on the bench. They have really good guards and shoot the 3 pretty well. They have three opponents in common Forest, Red boiling springs and Warren county. In those 4 games Community scored 286 and gave up 201. Upperman scored 289 and gave up 153. Community played Forest twice and Upperman played Warren county twice. Just a reference I have no idea if all players were healthy during those 4 games just a snap shot against common competition.

  2. Region 4AA taken from Jim314 bracket.

    1 Grundy County vs #4Cannon County 2/29 @ 7pm

    #2 York Institute vs #3 Bledsoe County  2/29 @ 7pm

    #1 Upperman 16# vs #4 Sequatchie County  2/29 @ 7pm

    #2 Cumberland County 1 vs#3 Watertown  2/29 @ 7pm

Not to overstate the obvious, but over the last 4 years every 8AA TEAM has lost all of their players. Some schools are hurt because it is harder to find players in some counties more than others. Most UC counties have a population less than 25K except Putnam. I actually  find it hard to believe any could consistently  compete with UHS unless CHS builds a program. Macon, SMith,Cannon, Dekalb, Fentress, Overton, all have a population of less than 25K. 3 of them have 2 public high schools That need players. At 80K in Putnam and 3 schools the numbers can be overwhelming. H2O is in a big county but serves 4 now 5 publics. It won't explain away feeder systems, community importance, and tradition, but simple math plays a part. Oh yeah, and coaching stability and ability is vital to ATTRACT players from an even larger population area. That happens from time to time in UC basketball.

I do not disagree with anything you have said. Do you consider Clarkrange girls and Clay county boys just an anomaly then? I would almost include Pickett county as well. Clay county about 8000 and Pickett around 5000 population.

  4. I guess what a good coach is. Would be relative to the individual evaluating the coach. If it's just wins there is a middle TN coach that has roughly 665 wins in 26 seasons. That would be what 25.5 wins per season? Any good coach will have players and parents that love them as well as some that hate them. Without a hard standard to go by no way to please everyone. Who really cares what people on a message board think. No way I would want to coach high school basketball. In this age of the internet and everyone has a video camera nothing gets missed and usually get posted or quoted out of context. To fit the individual agenda be it good or bad.

Agreed, they even expanded the Oscars to being up to 10 movies from 5. And most districts/regions recognize 10 or more players each; surely 5 players per classification would be no stretch. And I am NOT a give everyone a trophy kind of guy, but I feel like 5 players in each classification would be more than worthy. Heck, would it be crazy to assure one from each area plus 2 "wildcards"?

The problem with that is a lot of the time folks on here do not agree with the district and region selections. How in the world can the be expected to agree on the MRS basketball selections? I would say that if character and academic's paly a part in the selection that may effect some players. Depending on what the measurement standard is. If you have a outstanding player with a 2.5 GPA and a slightly less player with a 4.0 GPA is that enough to make the switch. Hard to tell without a true guide of the selection criteria.

  6. So at this point. IMHO the most impactful games remaining in regards to district standings UHS at YI 1/31 and YI at LA 2/11. Depending on how things shake out WT at YI 2/13 could have an impact. Then again we are talking about high school basketball where anything can happen.

    UHS 9-0

    YI     8-1

    WT   6-3

    CC    5-4

Macon by 20  (nothing to prove here)

Upperman by 30  (Lots to prove)

York by 15  (No answer for Leffew)

Dekalb by 6  (K Ferrell will you please stand up)

Smith county is 9-14 and 0-8 in the district. What would beating them by 30 prove? UHS beat them by 35 at Smith County.

  8. I think it will eventually be in high school basketball. I also think overall it will be good for high school basketball. The argument that way more kids will not go to the next level will always be one of the arguments. Just like in school they offer honor's and AP courses but you do not have to take them. The shot clock will help some be more prepared for the next level. You also do not have to play basketball but if you chose to you will no this is a requirement. It will also be a financial burden on a lot of school if it gets implemented. When the 3 point line was in the works a lot of arguments against it and how it would ruin the game. Not sure it ruined it but it did drastically change it.

  9. Upperman blows out 6A Flagler Palm Coast in Palm Coast FL today 61-23. Played everyone on the team and look good. They were up 53-10 in the 3rd quarter when the starters came out. This was my 1st time seeing UHS play this season. If they can stay healthy they will be a tough out for everyone they play and a possible run to the glass house.

  10. Upperman plays in Palm Coast FL today against Palatka FL a solid and athletic team and tomorrow against Flagler Palm Coast. FPC is a lot like Alcoa very quick and athletic from a school of 2500 students. Palatka very quick and swarming defense. Cold be a good test for UHS. I will see tomorrows game and have already seen FPC play this season. I think UHS can handle that game.

  11. In my opinion Upperman is the clear cut favorite. They went 11-3 last season in the district. They lost one player to graduation. They have 2 that moved in to the area one of which starts. They have the QB from the football team back that didn't play as a junior but did as a sophomore and started. One of last season starters now comes off of the bench. There bench is deeper and has size. They start 2 big kids 6' 6" and 6' 4" and have a lot of speed. I really don't think anyone in the district has anything for them but we're talking about high school kids so you never know. They go to Alcoa 12/14 and the next week they play in FL. So time will tell.
