They are announcing today. If the rumors are true, this guy has already left them once and he will do it again when a better job comes open.

There are a lot of better jobs available, he just couldn't land them. But, i do agree with you... this tenure will be short..... and not as sweet as the first go round.

  2. Everyone needs to just sit back and applaud Dilfer for taking all this local talent and turning them into power 5 talent. I mean, no other coach in the history of middle Tennessee has been able to compile so many local kids in 2 years and develop them into such amazing football players.

I also heard that he is getting bullied by local schools. Take it easy on Trent and let him score his 55 points without criticism so that he can get the positive recognition he deserves. Leave Trent alone, he is a stand up guy who doesn't want to run the score up, just wants to get his 55. Poor guy taking all this abuse and negativity.

Does lipscomb have a national roster?  Please elaborate.

I thought that was common knowledge?? Your coach after a game last year said that all the kids from 30 different states or whatever and 2 countries came together as one...

Are all of those kids that play for Lipscomb born and raised in Davidson and surrounding areas?

That would be silly. They just beat two really good public schools. They should just play up in D2-AAA. Or keep playing D2-AA and collecting rings and having a good time doing it.

I personally don't think beating teams with a national roster versus teams with local rosters is that impressive. I mean, I guess if that's what gets you your thrills, sure... but I would want to compete against teams who are national teams like me if I were the coaches and players. At least McCallie and Baylor are closer competition in AAA.

Her is the questions that I would like to ask:

    1.  Why do you care where your student body comes from?  Are you not an all inclusive school that wishes to open it’s doors to everyone?

    2.  What does it matter to you what his budget is for football?  Do you know how much Brentwood Academy, Ensworth, Baylor, Montgomery Bell Academy or CPA spend on football compared to Lipscomb? Does Trent Dilfer not personally raise much of the funds for his program.

From what I am hearing around Nashville many of the old line Lipscomb families are not happy because “LIL JOHNNY” is no longer getting to play due to the football recruits that have followed Trent Dilfer into the program. Just a hunch but I seriously doubt that Trent Dilfer will be a Lipscomb next season.  He’s not going to listen to people that really don’t

As stated previously, if you want to recruit nationally, be a national team... not impressed you can't win D2 AA in state championship in Tennessee high school football (which isn't even top in country) with all those power 5 kids. Don't feed me that inclusive bull, I don't see him brining in a JV kid full ride from Utah. I could care less who he makes mad. As far as budgets go, is what it is... spend all you want, but you better win at the level your talent is equivalent to. What you should be hearing is 25+ coaches and talent from across the country should equal gold balls at the highest level and honestly a national level tram. Just saying, he ain't all you think he is and the fact that he does what he does just so he can hang 65 points on teams with local talent is sad.

You may not like Trent Dilfer (I don’t know anything about him personally) but he has quickly rebuilt Lipscomb into a winner.  The days of someone like Coach McAdams (he was a great coach and man)  beating up on the little public school teams is over.  If you want to win in D2 you are going to be required to recruit and run it more like a college program.  The profile and appearance of your student body will also look much different than when Coach McAdams was coaching.  If you only want your student body profile to be that 90+% of your student body come  from upper middle class families that attended Lipscomb Elementary and Middle School you will not be able to compete against the upper echelon teams in D2 on a consistent basis.

Disagree.. when you actually look past the roster reading "nashville Tn" you see that players come from all over the country. Hawaii, Florida, Nevada, California, Texas, Colorado etc. If you feel the need to recruit players from all over the country to compete in D2 AA you may not be the coach you think you are. (I say compete because he can't even beat CPA with all those recruits) don't be scared and take your talents to minimum AAA.. but realistically he should be playing Nationally with his budget and recruits.

  7. CPA or Lipscomb, possibly both, will win the match up with Oakland. Although both programs conduct themselves in completely different manners, both are incredibly talented and very good football teams. Ingle Martin and staff can put good football players in position to win ball games. Trent is so loaded with talent he can call just about anything and it would work. There are multiple power 5 kids who play on LA squad, and that alone should scare anyone. Great players make great coaches.

  8. LA has so many out of state games because most of the DII AAA will not play them out of spite for LA deciding not to play up in AAA. Almost all realize that if they don't want to move up and help balance schedules there is no reason to help them. Another opportunity for LA to find some out of state talent for 2022.

  9. Cheatham County Schools:

    -0 paid assistants

    - 0 moneys provided to the football program (other than lights on friday nights and water and they actually discussed charging the programs for that!)

-0 faculty coaches other than H.C. at SHS(2 seasons now)

    - possibility of having HC Salary cut (discussions happened previous years and with COVID are a big possibility again)

-Rise in health insurance cost yearly ($5,000-$6,000 increase)

In my opinion these are just some of the reasons many coaches will not be interested in C.C. or why coaches will not be able to stay and build programs to their full potential.

I'm not saying any specific kid didn't deserve to be on the team and I'm not being negative but...

Hard to believe they left off Sankey and Cox from the All state team offense. Loudon had three guys on the All State offensive team but lost to Alcoa 56-0 in the semis. PC had 4 All state players and Alcoa beat them 27-0 in the state championship game.

Sankey and Cox were two of the top ten players in the state in 3A and its not close.

Alco Defense only gets two?!?! LOL No Blankenship?! No Tollett?!? No Armstrong!?!

Alcoa outscored everyone in the region 304-0! Alcoa D had ten shutouts.  During the season they faced a team with an All State QB and WR and beat them 42-0 and faced another  team with an All state RB and beat them 56-0.

In the semis and state championship game faced an undefeated team with three All state players and beat them 56-0! In the state championship game faced a team with 4 All state players and beat them 27-0.

I know everyone has to be politically correct these days and that's why deserving kids got left off, but its still a shame. At least four of those kids deserved All State honors. Earned it and proved on the field decisively against kids that were named All state.

......................... We should just rename the entire state of Tennessee to Alcoa, just to see what there is to complain about next..... take your 100 state championships and your FOUR All-State selections and be happy.I guarantee any of those kids who aren't from Alcoa would gladly trade an All-State selection for some championship rings.

  11. Not sure why we have covered everything BUT the topic the thread suggest. This is about the next Head FOOTBALL Coach at Cheatham. This forum probably doesn't do any good to try to bring awareness of the insanely deprived athletic programs in Cheatham County. Anyone involved in that county knows that sports are placed on the backburner. Just remember those who vote the way they do the next time elections come around. Hopefully (not probable) things change or else I see multiple sports in all the counties schools looking for help.

So back to the original question....Who is crazy/blind enough to take this job?

Here is the thing coach Robison is a joke of a coach. He had a player on his team verbally assault an official and he kept the kid on the team. Hopefully Sycamore will be hunting for a coach soon as well.

Didn't they just win the A.F. Bridges sportsmanship award that is voted on by officials? You continue to lose credibility and respect of anyone with half of a football mind. If you hate the school system and its coaches so much, maybe you should apply for the Cheatham job.. sounds like you have it all figured out and know all the ins of they Sycamore program as well. Maybe you could win the powder keg back since it has been a while.

What i saw of Sycamore this year the defense wasnt the problem. If the offense didnt turn the ball over they would go 3 and out. Hasnt this team averaged 14 points per game the last 4 years?

Your defense sucks too, but its because your offense puts them in bad stops.

    They should fire their OC.

I'm sure their OC and DC are the same person, they have like 2 coaches.... They placed 2nd in the region and put up 40+ on the team that was supposed to win the region and played the team that won the region very close until late in the game when their defense couldn't stop Fairview's RB. From what I seen the Line wasn't too impressive either offensively.

Back to the original post though, Cheatham will have a football coach and they will have a heck of a challenge in front of them.

  14. I disagree about Sycamore being that bad offensively. This year their defense gave up 30 points multiple times this season. I agree that Cheatham as a whole has had more success over the last 10 years, but realistically they have both been about the same. Cheatham was 2nd in the region 3 years ago, Sycamore was this season. Prior to that it was 2012 the last really good season for Cheatham? The last Cheatham County school to make it to quarterfinals other than the 2012 Cubs was 2006 Sycamore? Sycamore hasn't been past 1st round in over 10 years.  Tyler Williams missed playoffs last two seasons, Al Pellegrino finished 3rd and was one and done, Justin Robison has been to playoffs 3/4 years finishing 3rd twice and 2nd once. All of those appearances are one and done.

Traditionally all of the Chetham School programs are around .500 or below, there just isn't a lot going on in the area. Every now and again a team will have a decent season, but realistically it is just not a football area, no matter who is coaching. As stated previously there are a lot of factors why this is, but I believe the main problem is support and funding.

TripleO, realistically no team from Cheatham Co. has had a chance to win the region title. No Cheatham, Sycamore or Harpeth team can compete with Fairview. That school has ALL the things the Chetham schools do not. Fairview will continue to win the region as long as it stays the way it is.

I know I’m missing some so anyone feel free to fill in any blanks that I missed along the way.

There has been minimal talent come out of Cheatham County as a whole, especially when it comes to football. Sycamore and Harpeth have had a handful of college football players, but not many.

As said in the previous thread this county will never hire a quality head coach again. The current HCs in the county wouldnt cut it anywhere else.

Add to the fact that the sport is dying in the county. All three high schools have 90 total kids playing combined.

Making a username just to post your highly intelligent opinion is not necessary. The fact that a coach can have success at all in that county is pretty impressive. No money, no resources, minimal support and limited talent.
