why is it so hard to get kids out in small schools now.
lineemup replied to Captainmidnite51's topic in Class 1A & Class 2A
Long term consequences? There is no more risk involved in football than any other sport. When played with correct technique and skill set football is a very safe game. The fact of why numbers are down is simple. Football requires discipline, structure, hard work and team work. Today's society is instant gratification all while being a self centered, entitled and enabling. Football has no room for those characteristics, especially at the high school level. Baseball is an individual sport tha requires little to no conditioning and is only played in ideal weather. Basketball is played in air conditioned gyms and 1/5 on the court. Statements like" long-term consequences" and "other sports are simply better for you" are what seaps into athletes and parents heads and kills a great sport. I have seen more compound breaks this year in the "safe sport" of basketball than any other sport this season. -
Ill be back in 4 weeks to check in on you and your outlandish prediction. Or i could just wait until the quarterfinals.
-
Have you seen them play? They have given up 7 points in 6 games... i don't care who you play, thats impressive. I would be willing to bet a fortune they do not go 0-4 or 1-3 over the next 4 weeks.
-
Thats is definitely not happening. You think a team that has given up one TD all season and is undefeated will lose the remainder of their games? They have some stiffer competition on the back end, but Whitwell is very talented at the skill position and defense is very impressive.

The Elephant in the Room - the two boarding schools
lineemup replied to MoonDogRex's topic in Division II
All private institutions have the ability to become boarding schools themselves as well do they not? Spend the money and join the party. -
Jo Byrns lost to the #2 and #3 teams in 1A and took the #1 team in 2A to the wire last Friday. Your take on Jo Byrns is off, but your zoning misinformation is even more off. Where is Jo Byrns MS QB from last season? Where is that QB's older brother? where was their oldest brother? Where are/were they zoned for? as far as coaching goes, year 2 for a new staff correct? John Elmore is one of the nicest human beings you will ever meet. He has had some struggles at Greenbrier. Let the administration make the decisions they think is best for their school and students.

Like i said, from my understanding JB had just as many (if not more) players than east last night and they had them on the ropes. I think JB is a good team, but not good enough to have the #1 team in 2A on the ropes regardless if Groves is playing or not.
-
Sounds as if there are some folks in this thread who know exactly what Goodpasture is and how they operate.
-
From my understanding it seems JB was out several players and also starting 4 freshman on each side of the ball. I know that their QB has been out as well. I don't think East is the team that everyone believes they are.
-
There are a lot of better jobs available, he just couldn't land them. But, i do agree with you... this tenure will be short..... and not as sweet as the first go round.
-
Should be a great postseason. Good luck to all.
-
Find it hard to imagine East not in state title game again this year.

Not many dads or fans have their teams schedules figured out yet.

Everyone needs to just sit back and applaud Dilfer for taking all this local talent and turning them into power 5 talent. I mean, no other coach in the history of middle Tennessee has been able to compile so many local kids in 2 years and develop them into such amazing football players. I also heard that he is getting bullied by local schools. Take it easy on Trent and let him score his 55 points without criticism so that he can get the positive recognition he deserves. Leave Trent alone, he is a stand up guy who doesn't want to run the score up, just wants to get his 55. Poor guy taking all this abuse and negativity.

Liberty creek the next Thompson?
-
I thought that was common knowledge?? Your coach after a game last year said that all the kids from 30 different states or whatever and 2 countries came together as one... Are all of those kids that play for Lipscomb born and raised in Davidson and surrounding areas?
-
I personally don't think beating teams with a national roster versus teams with local rosters is that impressive. I mean, I guess if that's what gets you your thrills, sure... but I would want to compete against teams who are national teams like me if I were the coaches and players. At least McCallie and Baylor are closer competition in AAA.
-
Wonder if Lipscomb will declare as a national team next year? Seems like they are wasting time playing local high school teams from Davidson and surrounding areas..
-
As stated previously, if you want to recruit nationally, be a national team... not impressed you can't win D2 AA in state championship in Tennessee high school football (which isn't even top in country) with all those power 5 kids. Don't feed me that inclusive bull, I don't see him brining in a JV kid full ride from Utah. I could care less who he makes mad. As far as budgets go, is what it is... spend all you want, but you better win at the level your talent is equivalent to. What you should be hearing is 25+ coaches and talent from across the country should equal gold balls at the highest level and honestly a national level tram. Just saying, he ain't all you think he is and the fact that he does what he does just so he can hang 65 points on teams with local talent is sad.
-
Disagree.. when you actually look past the roster reading "nashville Tn" you see that players come from all over the country. Hawaii, Florida, Nevada, California, Texas, Colorado etc. If you feel the need to recruit players from all over the country to compete in D2 AA you may not be the coach you think you are. (I say compete because he can't even beat CPA with all those recruits) don't be scared and take your talents to minimum AAA.. but realistically he should be playing Nationally with his budget and recruits.

Top 6A takes on top DivII-AA when Oakland Host Lipscomb Academy
lineemup replied to Blaze45's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
CPA or Lipscomb, possibly both, will win the match up with Oakland. Although both programs conduct themselves in completely different manners, both are incredibly talented and very good football teams. Ingle Martin and staff can put good football players in position to win ball games. Trent is so loaded with talent he can call just about anything and it would work. There are multiple power 5 kids who play on LA squad, and that alone should scare anyone. Great players make great coaches. -
Does LA enrollment drop after football season?
-
Isn't it weird that the best teams in AAA are actually playing in AA. (LA and CPA)
-
LA has so many out of state games because most of the DII AAA will not play them out of spite for LA deciding not to play up in AAA. Almost all realize that if they don't want to move up and help balance schedules there is no reason to help them. Another opportunity for LA to find some out of state talent for 2022.
