I saw the Meigs QB last year and I would say Webb from LC is better. I second whoever mentioned him. Best player Forrest saw in 2A this year.

Webb was the best player Forrest saw in 2A this year? He was 0-6 with 0 yards passing and 5 carries for only 39 yards w/ 2tds as a runner. He doesn't even rank in the top 4 for rushing on his own team in both that game and the season. Just seems his number was called in the red zone. Against Forrest Lewis Co's RB Potts had 88yards 1TD, RB Sharp had 74 yards, and RB C. Nash had 50 yards. So the 4th leading rusher of the game with only 39 yards was the best player Forrest saw this year? Really? On defense he only had 2 solo tackles/3 assisted tackles against Forrest.

Not Eagleville's QB Ethan Cobb that went 13-20 for 128 yards 1TD & rushed for 68 yards & 2TD in a win over Forrest. Or even CA's Tre Davidson that ran for 100+ yards against in their against Forrest?

I haven't heard any "hype" involving Hickman Co. As for Riverside, they're a tough and talented team. Lexington barely escaped in OT, and they've given a good account in all their other games except Hickman Co. I'm personally not looking for a chance to glorify the Panthers, just giving my thoughts and opinions when they are relevant. It happens that myself and a few others think that Riverside has a good chance to advance through region 5 (not necessarily predicting it, but they have the team to get it done), so if you want to call a few opinions "hype", there's the reason...more than one person has the same opinion concerning the outcome of two games between two regions.

I'm a huge fan of Riverside.  You can't always compare scores when two different teams have played the same team earlier in the season. Things change throughout the season: injuries, improvements, regressions, players move, players are removed from teams, etc. So, although this can be an indicator, you can't always count on it..... 4A Lexington beat the Panthers on a long run near the very end of the game (Lex might still win their region). Riverside won the first half at Waverly but the Tigers beat the Panthers from midway in the 3rd quarter on. (Wavo won their region) If not for these two events, Riverside would be undefeated at this late point in the season........ Riverside has gone to the first or second round each of the past 5 years. This is, by far, the best Riverside team we have had on the field during this stretch. Going in, I feel we can compete with any team from Region 5 or 6. I'm not saying we are going to beat anybody or that Region 6 is stronger than 5. I'm only saying that as a fan of high school football in general for many years, Riverside is loaded for bear and will make some noise in the playoffs where ever they go or who ever they play against. No, they are not ranked and they hardly ever get mentioned on Jackson's 5th Quarter, and are never covered by any Nashville media, but they will come to play.

Thanks... I wasn't trying to set anyone out with my post. The hype wasn't meant for the ones I quoted either.  I was really wanting the insight because I have not seen them and could only have a prediction based on the scores.

I honestly don't see see Hickman doing anything in the playoffs but you just can't ever tell.

Riverside I do believe they can play and I seen sperts of what they can do first hand. If those kids can keep their heads right and play discipline football they definitely have the talent to knock off any of the teams they have to play. They are big and fast. They got big receivers and a very good mobile QB. If you get the chance to what them you will see if you have any knowledge about football. I truly believe that it will be region 6 vs region 6 in the 3rd round. But it's the playoffs bud anything can happen!

    Thanks.

Obviously the pollsters think so, and overall it probably is...we (Scotts Hill) aren't very good this year and still beat Hickman and East Hickman. Waverly is on another level than anyone in our region, and I suspect that Riverside is much better than they have received credit for. The #'s 2, 3, and four teams from region 6 could all go out in the first round against region 5 and I wouldn't be shocked, but if Waverly doesn't make at least the semi's I will be.

I have seen all the teams play from region 7 That are the front runners the Ville, TCA ,Union City, and Peabody. In my opinion Waverly is better than any of those. Now Lewis or .CA I haven't seen them play but I don't Lewis could keep up with Waverlys offense because they are mainly a running team and always have been. I can't say anything about .CA except they beat a very respected Lewis team so they must be good. Still sticking with a riverside - Waverly 3rd rounder to see who gets the Ville in the semi

I've got a question for anyone that's seen Region 6 play. I will clarify that I don't know anything about Region 6 other than their scores, which doesn't always tell you everything. I definitely believe Waverly is on a level all their now in Region 6. But, I just don't see all the hype over Riverside or Hickman Co.  The reasons are listed below...

Hickman Co. only beat Summertown 14-13. Summertown has been blown out by Lewis Co, CA, & Forrest. Summertown hasn't even scored a TD against those three (28-0, 49-0, & 43-0).

Hickman Co. got beat 55-7 by Lewis Co in the only head-2-head matchup.

Hickman Co. got blown out by Franklin Road Academy 48-7. CA beat Franklin Road Academy 56-21 just two weeks prior.

Riverside only beat Hickman Co. 32-28.

Riverside only beat Obion County 35-34, but Lewis County beat Obion County 49-24.

Again, I'm seriously asking and not trying to start anything other than pointing out the wins/loses that seem to favor Region 5 over Region 6 (EXCEPT with Waverly).

I wasn't saying that CA is still loading up on athletes from other counties. As a matter of fact I was implying that the drastic drop in numbers would lead one to believe just the opposite. I did hint that CA is still reaping the rewards of players that had come to them under different ways of operating (at least for a few more years). Drop from 50 players down to 35 and we can believe it's a down class or two. Drop from 50 to 18 and we can assume CA has lost their means of pulling athletes. Especially since your enrollment is now at an all time high.

Gotcha... Maybe we just looked like we had 50 players but I just checked & counted the kids. I don't know about this year but was told we were in the 20s and then here are the numbers from the last three years of Middle School Football teams 2016 -29 players , 2015-28 players , 2015-29 players. Again it's another assumption made about CA that isn't true. The numbers did not drop from the 50s to teens... we barely have over 50 total kids in a grade. LOL.

  6. As for the Jr High numbers this year, it's just one of those things that happen at every school. Some grades have more players than others. The school had another record enrollment number this year. There hasn't been a decline overall. Some grades have numbers and others don't.

As for the kids from other counties playing at CA, that rule was broken? If CA follows the rules set forth by the TSSAA for staying in Division 1 then... What? If a parent decides they want to send their kid to CA then that's an option everyone has.

It's not like public schools and their athletes aren't doing the same thing. I know for a fact that there are a number of kids playing sports at current public schools inside Maury County and are zoned for other schools inside the county that have the exact same sports. Cullycutter, an athlete that played sports in your elementary & middle school is now playing a sport at Central and Cully has this sport. I can name kids at Mt. Pleasant, Hampshire, Central, Richland, etc...  that are playing school sports out of zone that their own school has!

As for the out of county thing with CA, there are a number of kids that live outside Maury County that are paying a fee to attend public schools inside Maury County. I know one kid at Richland that lives in the middle of Columbia!

I say all that to say... If it's legal for these public school under TSSAA rules then it's fine! But don't go throwing stones at CA when there are public schools / athletes in almost every public school in our district doing the exact same thing that these coaches and admins are meeting about.

Again... if CA or any school is breaking TSSAA rules, then report them!

I pulled those stats from unapproved website.com on Monday and they have seemed to have changed since then. The BOLD ones below are the ones updated.

If both teams come into the game mentally prepared for a tough battle... then the team that makes less mistakes will pull out the close win. Checkout how close they are on offense. It should be a good game! BUT... Go Dawgs!

    Lewis County 9-0

    279.8 rushing yards per game, 40 TDs/ 18 fumbles

    45.6 passing yards per game, 7 TDs/ 4 Ints

    Columbia Academy 7-1

    Offense:

    261.0 rushing yards per game, 27 TDs/ 14 fumbles

    74.1 passing yards per game, 6 TDs/ 3 Ints

Defense against Region common opponents: 10.25 pts per game

I will be honest, I was a little bit unsure of how close my picks would be in terms of score and result. The weather was something hard to predict, and I am working to become more familiar with the new opponents in 5AA.

Lewis County did not play a very good 1st half of football. Uncharacteristically, they had penalties that both took points off the board for them, and extended drives for Loretto. However, they came out after the half and took the kickoff to the house, followed that up with a 3-and-out on defense, and another score. The defensive line took control in the 3rd quarter, and the Panther offense did what was expected. The weather may have been the biggest surprise. Left Hohenwald in a steady rain, reached Summertown in an absolute downpour, crossed old Hwy 64 and the clouds parted, by the time we reached Loretto the sun was shining on the field and a rainbow in the clouds.

I expected Forrest-Eagleville to be a good game, and I gave the slight edge to the Rockets because the game was in Chapel Hill. Eagleville was able to take the victory in OT, in what must have been a great game, as it was tight all night.

The CA-Summertown game was close early, and I am sure the field was pretty sloppy because of how the rain was falling 2 hours before gametime when I went through. I haven't heard, but I have to think it was a messy first half. CA was able to put distance between them in the second half and cruise to the win.

I am going to keep updating this thread each week with region matchups and my predictions. I hope to see some other Region 5AA fans get in and provide some perspective.

Yeah Summertown was never in it. CA's Defense allowed no first downs, -28 yds total offense, Summertown was not allowed across the 50yd line.  CA's Offense was experimenting with two new players at QB for over half the game.

There didn't seem to be much unity amongst Summertown's players. They were cussing and yelling at each other all night and a member of their chain gang gave the line judge a few choice words before receiving a personal foul for running across the field after CA's 3rd TD of the night.

I think your missing the point. They played 8th graders with high schoolers , together in tournaments and practices at Cleveland High school during March @ April . High school AD was coaching them. Who happens to be a former girls basketball coach at Cleveland. (Karen Hall). Plus her assistant was a Cleveland middle school basketball coach. A lot of coaches are watching to see what Benard Childress rules on this. If the punishment is light then get ready for many more coaches doing the same thing! In 2017 everyone knows you can't have your AD recruiting middle schoolers by mixing them with your high school players til the summer. Farther more the AD can't be Coaching kids that go to her school during the no practice time .We shall see what happens.

I must be missing the point as well. I don't see the 8th Graders playing with 9th Graders during March & April as being any type of TSSAA Violation. The possible issue I see is the AD and school coaches directly "coaching" more than 3 of their own kids during that time.

My child is just now a freshman and doesn't currently play on a travel team with any kids from his school, so I've never dealt with this issue but it's my understanding that the 50% Rule does not apply from the time the school's basketball team is eliminated for the season to the start of the next school year. It only applies from the 1st day of the school year until the team is eliminated for the year.

50% Rule – Participation (includes practice or games) during the school year on a non-school team prior to the school season by students that will play the following season on the high school team is limited to 50% of the number of players required to play the game, which would be three in basketball. Only the specified number of students participating on a non-school team prior to the school season may be placed on the high school eligibility list the following season. Those students cannot be interchanged on the school’s team roster.

Again, I personally have never dealt with this so I could be wrong and would like to see for myself what other rule it would fall under.
