And I’m glad y’all are okay with going to the sweet 16 with the best team arguably in program history.

How did the University of Memphis do in last years tournament? What about the year before?  What about this year? I say Memphis doesn't even make the tournament this year. That's with the #1 class in the country.

Back on the Tennessee situation, it’s something that the east side of the state blew it up and made it a story. I’m hoping Tennessee fans are ready for another Sweet 16 and below season.

Well I'm glad Tennessee has Barnes and not Hardaway.. Lol!

Disagree, it is about character. If you as the head guy do not follow the rules what ever you think about the rules knowing it could put the kids involved in a bad place but you do it anyway for your gain? What signal are you sending or example are you setting? Looks like a bit selfishness and arrogance to me.

      Exactly!

Truth be told, I don't think Penny Hardaway or any player from East cares about the state titles now. They won the games, and the players got their rings.

Yeah well that's the problem with Penny.. I have always respected Penny Hardaway but the way he talked about Barnes and the Tennessee basketball program and now this. NO MORE RESPECT FOR PENNY. Then he doubles down and plays Wiseman last night against Oregon. WOW! This is not the right way to teach young men how to act. PERIOD! Its time the TSSAA brings the hammer down on Memphis East and any other Memphis School (any school for that matter) that knowingly violates the rules like this. Bearden and Whitehaven should be upset because one of those two teams should have another state title.

West scrimmaged Catholic last night. West has some talented guards, They should make some noise in 4AAA.

Got to see William Blount, Maryville, Alcoa and Heritage in the Jamboree last night. Also Alcoa scrimmaged Hardin Valley on Saturday which we lost 64-61.  After seeing Hardin Valley again you could be right West might be the 3rd or 4th best team in that district. William Blount could be a little better than I expected too. Maryville will be better than last year and if Maples, Davis, and Chambers plays basketball they could make a run at a state championship.

Four classes would make things worse.

AA in Memphis and West TN has been weaker than A and AAA for sometime. There have been some good teams but as an overall classification it's weak. Kids tend to go to a smaller school where they can be the star or they'll go to a AAA school where they can play with more size and talent. Wooddale won AA last year and should win this year.

Just because a team from an area wins a chamionship doesn't mean that that class isn't weak. Everyone knows that the AAA gauntlet that is Shelby County has the majority of the best teams in the state. Basektball in Nashville, in my opionion (and others), isn't very good. Yes, some years they produce good teams (seems like in AA too) but overall it is weak for an urban area.

The basketball has been watered down in all classifications. Brentwood Academy for years was in AA in basketball and football and then went to AAA.   CPA,Webb,GCA, and several other private school are no longer with the public schools. Obviously if you take out those schools then there is going to be less competition. What did everybody think was going to happen? This is what most people wanted. Well this is what you get. Same thing has happened in football.

Memphis is a whole different ball game. No doubt that city produces the most talent but it also looks like one or two schools become all star teams. It’s not uncommon for a team to get 2 or 3 transfers in a  year. That’s just one of the reasons why there is no parity in Memphis in AA. A lot of the so so schools get cherry picked. At least that’s what it looks like to an outsider.

6 is toooooooo many classes. I like the going back to districts and top two go to playoffs  with 4 classes. Leave privates where they are.

I agree 100%! Nobody wants to go to most of these 1st round games. Back in the 80’s you had to be a good football team to make the playoffs. The first round games were usually good match ups.

At one point, Loudon, Stone Memorial, Anderson County, CAK, and Catholic all used to be in 4AA's region. None of those teams are left. The vacuum of good teams in AA is incredible. AA is very weak. Four classes is needed in basketball.

AA is very weak??? Compared to what??? You make a few good points but CAK, Anderson County and Loudon are not great basketball schools. Loudon has had a few great teams but not many and CAK has only had recent success in basketball. Catholic and Stone Memorial have had several good teams in the last 10-15 years but this region will still have contenders in the state tournament next year and probably the year after. Also Catholic has the best recruiting service in basketball on the eastern side of the state. They are very different than anyone else you mentioned.

As for district 4AA I don't think Fulton, Alcoa, or AE lost to any single A public schools last year. I know they all three beat AAA schools in the area. If anything football (public) should be adjusted to 4 classifications not basketball.

Hall of fame games. Our district is very bad, so I guess the only way to get some quality competition is to travel a little bit. I guess two quality teams in one day is better than driving two times. It will definitely be a challenge playing two games all most back to back, I think we will be ok the first game but the second game is when the legs start to go.

Grainger County will be one of the best AA teams in East Tennessee if not the state. Meigs County will have to play close to their best to get the W. Should be a very good match up early in the year.

What has Farragut added to be considered top 4 in District?   How'd they do in summer camps?

Farragut had a couple of nice young players last year. They should be a little better than last year. Just an opinion but I have seen Maryville, Bearden, Hardin Valley, William Blount, and West play this summer. The middle of this District will be very competitive in my opinion.

  11.   The season tips off in less than a month. Alcoa, Kingston, and Scott County should all be better than last season. Fulton and AE have several key players to replace but Fulton still has Edward Lacy and AE will be athletic as expected. From top to bottom this district should be very competitive. With Fulton dominance the last 15 years it would be hard to pick against them but I do believe they could be vulnerable this year. We shall see.

Maryville should win the district.  I think HVA could surprise some teams and never count Bearden out.

Maryville will have a chance to make it to the state tournament. They added 2 kids that are real good plus what they already had. They could be the sleeper team in 3A.

If that's the same one I'm talking about then Alcoa will be fine next year.  May still lose to AE and Fulton but we'll see.

Turtle I talked to an AE supporter today and he informed me that you had a new basketball coach. I haven’t seen anything on this but could you confirm or deny. Curious?

It's really not that hard. This thread is for District 9-AA

Oh ok.. NOT! His comments said everyone else is playing for second in 2AA.  That’s when it brought me into the thread. I suggest you ignore any of my post if you don’t like them because I don’t play that way.

every 2A team in the state is competing for second place behind Wooddale. Transfers with 2 of the top 60 players in the nation on the same team in 2A. Crazy.

I think Sycamore White House and then Harpeth

Really? Wasn’t Memphis East suppose to be the clear favorite in 3AAA last year and most Memphis fans thought Whitehaven was the second best team? We all know how that turned out. First thing  2AA will be better across the board in my opinion. Teams 4-12 will be much better than last year. Second injuries are common in basketball and you have to avoid the injury bug. Third you have to be able to play as a team on offense and defense.

Wooddale has all the pieces to go back to back but I’ve watched basketball far too long to say everyone else is playing for second. Especially before the season even starts...

  16.   First of all no adjustments by the defense in the second half. To be in the 3-5 in the 4th quarter is a joke.  We got beat up front and really didn’t deserve to be in this game. Offense game plan was not very good either. Give credit to Maryville they wanted it more, with 23 seniors that’s what you get in this game. We tried to get in a passing game with Maryville and that didn’t make any sense.

    It has been working well.......

Blackman started to overload the edge for a couple of series. Alcoa went to the "jumbo" and forced the edge run back inside and shut it down. Blackman only had 64 yards after the adjustments. Also, They move personal around every down now and it is even harder to cover.

I don't see Maryville running in the middle as much as the edges?? Moving #1, #2, #44, #64 around to adjust will be key. Trying to stop #1 when he is on the edge is TOUGH!

I expect a lot of short passes from Maryville? Alcoa's OLB's are more like DB's in this 3-4. #5 and #13 are fast!  Should work well if there is not too much "cushion" ? CAK used to use the short passes and it took sometime to adjust and tighten up on those routes. If Alcoa struggles, It might be keeping Maryville pass attack in check?

I hope Alcoa can run the ball well. If so, all the other pieces fall into place!:thumb:

BC I believe Maryville will use the short passing game a lot. They have weapons every where and we must contain them from making the big play. Key for us is the run game. If we can gain 3 to 5 yards on first down then I like our chance. Should be another great game...
