16-13......Blackman had chances to win it.....

Blackman is pretty good but we blew a lot of opportunities early. Offense looked better tonight and defense seems to be figuring it out. Next week should be a war.

Just make sure the restrooms are open on the visitor side.  Win all these championships and can’t even get restrooms on both sides

Lol! You need the exercise anyway turtle. I’m going to say Alcoa 34- AE- 6

Plenty of people skirt this rule in different ways.

I graduated in 98 and we had no real rules regarding practice. Then in 1999 some rules came down and I feel like the quality of basketball went down slowly. Kids in cities had access to gyms in different aspects: YMCAs, community centers, church gyms. However, rural areas of the state suffered because the only gym is at the school and the TSSAA limited access to that.

I graduated in 91 and can remember practice starting on October the 21st at least one year. First game was second week of November.

    They really miss Walker Russell.

Lol! When you lose a Mr Football your typically going to miss him. Just liked Maryville missed Dylan Hopkins. I give Blackman some credit, they didn’t break early and played a good game defensively but we have to execute better.  #9 played a great game for Blackman on the defensive side of the ball. We missed several opportunities in the passing game which could have changed this game in the first half. If we are to go undefeated we will have to play much better down the road. Our defense needs to play every quarter like the second half of this game. Our offense will have to run the ball better than tonight as well. Having said all of that I’m just happy to get a win. Cheers!

East Nashville? Who are you talking about?

I’m talking about East Tennessee basketball. Also I would put Pearl Cohn in my top 10 with the transfer of Marcus Fitzgerald Jr. He will make them a threat come tournament time.

Can 3A Alcoa get the win over a big 6A team with 138 players on their roster!?

Will the wheels fall off Alcoa's 3-4 defense?

One thing for sure, this years Alcoa team needs a ENERGY boost. They don't have/or show much mojo.....even doing the "too hype". Boo! Don't be living off the past.....wins are still earned on the field.

This game is the real deal! Better be ready for a war right off the bus!:thumb:

BC I was thinking the same thing on the energy level. If we go down to Blackman and think we've won just because we showed up we will get beat. I hope the coaches get their attention this week.

    Gotcha

First of all we are talking about 2019-2020 season. Last years standings mean absolutely nothing come November. It’s a long season and anything can happen. What people are forgetting is the East has had a team in the2AA Championship game the last 5 years. 2AA ball in East Tennessee has improved the last 5 or 6 years. Matter of fact I would say bb in the East has improved at every level the last few years. I expect the East to represent in the 2AA Championship game this year too.

South Side gonna surprise a bunch of folks on this board. They bring every single player back and did not graduate anybody. Yeah they lost the 6'10" kid but that really don't hurt them that bad.  Macklin is gonna be a beast this year. This is the best perimeter shooting team they have had in a really long time. match that with some big bodies that they have in the paint and the defense they play... Add that awful loss to South Gibson to end their season last year and that team gonna be hungry. I will be interested to see their schedule. If I am Coach Fuller I am playing all the 3A and top 2A teams that will play

Southside a surprise team???? I think most people would have them in their top five in 2AA.

I told people last year, they would win, even when it was popular to pick Raleigh Egypt and other schools , I told guys Wooddale wasn't losing and would be state champions. 2 reasons, they make you play their style of basketball whether you like to get up and down or not and they have a really good coach and it seems like those kids play really hard for him. They also have the best player in 2A and 2 of the better shooters in the state with Miles and Duncan and they added a 6'9 kid who is going to be pretty good and he only a 10th grader.

Honestly and this might sound weird, they might be as good as last year.

What teams do you think have a chance?

Well if Wooddale added a 6'9 kid then that makes it much tougher for everyone else. That would make Wooddale the big favorite for sure and I stand corrected. However, I don't think they will have anyone close to the skill level of Chandler Lawson next year.  Didn't notice this 6'9 kid last year at the state Tournament? Transfer?

Wooddale the  best team in 2A hands down. Question though, who second in Memphis and in the state?

Wooddale should be ranked #1 come the start of the season. They should be really good but I wouldn't crown them yet. Last year they proved they were the cream of the crop in 2AA. I personally believe that 6 to 8 teams could win 2AA this year. It's all about match-ups in tournament time and who's playing good at the end of the year.

Austin East lost their 2 best guys? Did Brainerd lose a lot as well??

Austin East lost 4 out of 5 starters and the next three off the bench. AE will still be good but not as good as last years team. IMO.. Brainerd I believe had 2 seniors that started. Maybe someone from that district can clarify that. Tyner, Howard, and Brainerd should be pretty good next year. It should be an interesting year in 2A.

Generally speaking, when members of any organized board of control raise controversial issues in this manner, they are in the minority. There's a "chain of command" in place to handle internal issues without being controversial or even making them public at all, even in a formal board meeting. If the board (as a whole, or even a majority), or the Director felt that this was an issue, it would have been handled behind closed doors and this discussion would be in the past tense about whatever changes had been made.

This is exactly how it should have happened. tradertwo you must have been some kind of administrator.

You can disagree all you want but close sources tell me a third member feels the same way. It's a changing world my friends, why do you think GQ left, he was sick of the BS. Gary won't get run off but he will to get sick of it the same as GQ did.

Your are incorrect in saying that a third member feels the same way. I know everyone on the board and that is not the case. Two members do not like Rankin and of course we know the two. The other members had no ideal this was even going to be brought up. This was a hit job on the coach pure and simple. Your source does not hold water if they say anything different. I'm personally disappointed in Brandy  & Clayton's comments on the two players they were talking about. Brandy has two nephews that are tuition students and one of them plays sports and a niece who just graduated that played softball... HMMMMMM... I'm confused????

First of all like you stated, "We are still trying to figure it out right now!"  No matter how many players played last week, I voiced my opinion so why get all up tight about it?  AE being down???  Uh, lets just say they're going to shock a lot of people this year.  Don't overlook the Roadrunners.  Saying they won't finish in the top 3?  Uh who finishes ahead of AE?

Of course we are trying to figure it out. We have 5 new players and one of those is an all district type player in Cam Burden. Also a new coach and new scheme is taking some getting used to. I believe we will be better at every position than last years team and we will have better depth. Fulton and AE cannot say the same and hence why I believe we will be in the hunt for the district title. Alcoa does play Kingston and AE the footballers first week back. Should be an opportunity for those two schools to get a win but if that doesn't happen then it could be a long year for your roadrunners.

For you to say we wouldn't hang with most of the teams in the district. Lol! That's what totally shocks me... There are only 5 teams in our district. Which means you think we will finish 4th or 5th. Lol! I guess we shall see in about 6 months.

AE will probably finish 3rd in the district but Kingston and Scott County will be better than last year. Remember Scott County did beat AE last year in the regular season.

I got to see Alcoa at Oak Ridge team camp.  It was good to see some of the Alcoa football players back on the hardwood. I like the way they're playing up tempo but I don't think they'll be able to hang with most of the teams in the district.  I believe Alcoa will keep it close for 2 1/2 quarters and then they'll get wore out.  The new coach:  well let's just say he didn't make many friends at the Oak Ridge team camp especially the players that were working the score clock/taking stats.

Lol! So you think we won’t compete in district 4AA this year?  Lol! We are better at every position than last years team. We have a deeper bench and are more athletic than last years team. You lost any credibility in basketball with me when you say we won’t compete in this district next year.  We have 5 players from last years team and only 3 playing in last weeks team camp this summer. We are still trying to figure it out right now.  Fulton and AE lost most of their teams from last year. If you remember we split with AE last year and lost in the district semi finals by 8 to them. They were not that much better than us last year and losing 7 players that played plus 4 starters. AE might not finish in the top 3 in the district next year. I feel very confident that we will compete for a district and regional Championship next year. I’ll revisit this post in 7 months from now and remind you of it.

Community is going to be a very good team with great size and speed. Lots of seniors.

I did see Community play last week and they should be pretty good.  It was a toss up on the last few I picked but they will be in that top ten conversation.

  17.  All three great high school players. I personally think Keon has the best chance to make a bigger impact at the next level. Akeem could also be a very good player at the next level if he can improve his shot. Not taking anything away from Emory because he’s a very good player in his own right. I’ll be curious to see who has the best senior year out of these three.

Knoxville Webb Team Camp;  I didn't get to see Webb play but supposedly they dominated each team they faced.  The few teams I did get to see, I was very impressed with South Doyle and Fulton (Can't believe I'm saying that) haha !  South Doyle have some pretty nice guards and one I want to say is a combo guard who can jump out the gym.  He had 3 unreal dunks against Knoxville West on Saturday afternoon.  If they can stay healthy, I'll say they'll make some noise this season.   Fulton, I thought for sure they would be down this year but you know when you mention Fulton you gotta know their defense is what they live by.  They smothered poor ol' Stone Memorial on Friday night and Stone couldn't handle the pressure from the smaller Falcons team.  I'll say Fulton will be good but its really going to take a coaching job from Jody to get the Falcons back in the Boro

Turtle what’s up, we all know Fulton will be Fulton. Jody is a great coach and Edward Lacy has to be considered the preseason player of the year in the district. Having said all of that, I do believe by the end of the year Alcoa will be the best team in the district come January. We might struggle until we get all of our players from football. We have 6 football players that will play this year. Looks like 3 starters and 3 good players to come off the bench. We haven’t had half our team during the Maryville College camp but I do see some reason for optimism. The new coach is going to make a big big difference.

No our guard play won’t be any better with out Cox the kids looked like young deer in head lights when we played AE and Fulton and played scared like they really didn’t want to be on the floor

Lol! Cox didn’t even play half of most games. Which didn’t make any sense to me? A lot of you don’t know but we will get a guard transfer in. I’ll stand by my comments and say our guard play will be better next year regardless if Cox plays. Next January we can revisit this conversation. For the record I hope he plays.

I heard from two different sources that the higher the level his football offers got the higher chance he quits playing basketball. Maybe the coaching change sways him to stay on the hardwood. That and having some capable ball-handlers join the squad would certainly help. We always knew last year, pressure the guards & you beat Alcoa. They would either turn it over, jack up a terrible shot or couldn't get it inside where they could legitimately hurt you.

Capable ball handlers join the squad? So you think we don't have anyone that can handle the ball next year? Interesting that your hating on the guards but our worst statistic was opponents offensive rebounding. Our opponents were plus +10 in offensive rebounding category (in district losses). We had a couple of problems last year but to blame it all on the guards alone is foolish. Next year our guard play will be much better with or without Cox. Remember we had two starting guards that didn't average 10 points combine. I think with another year under their belts the starting guards we have coming back will be much better. Only time will tell but we shall see.
