    Who are they wanting?

Out of respect for everyone involved, I can’t really disclose that right now. With a new school, great facilities, above average pay and great fan support, we should be able to hire a good coach. I will say this, that most people will be shocked if we get the coach we want. Of course, that usually doesn’t happen but we shall see.

  2.  Alcoa’s coach resigned today, so add that one to the list. I have a feeling this hire could get very interesting. If Alcoa makes the right hire then we should compete for a Championship in most years. Alcoa fans are clamoring for the glory days of basketball to come back.

Sevier County to me is the most surprising team in the state tourney including all 3 levels of classification (A-AAA). I've seen them play twice in person this season. They won one game & lost the other one. To me, they are a team that's just well coached. They don't have a star even though PG Marvin Castro is probably their best player @ 5'10" & a light 130 lbs. They play true team basketball. They do have 2 players that go 6'5" in Wesley Maples & Camden McElhaney. Maples is the better of the 2 taller players.

They are just a well balanced team. They also play pretty good defense. They play mostly man-to-man but at times will throw a full court press & also a zone in the half court defense. I just don't see them matching up well with Whitehaven though. I am expecting more zone from Sevier County in this game. I still personally think Whitehaven is a much better team overall. I could see Whitehaven winning by 10+ points.

Sevier County will play a zone against Whitehaven. They are well coached and if Whitehaven doesn’t bring their A game it could be an upset. I do think Whithaven wins but could be closer than most think.

I played against Pennington when I was in school, I’ve always liked him, I think he’s a good coach.

Lol! I played against Andy too. He could really heat it up back in the day. He loves the game and will make Sequoia competitive on average years. Having said that there probably one and done against Howard next week. This region will have its hands full next week but good luck to all.

We talk about basketball here. The reason many others have ignored the stuff he and another poster said is that CoachT is a good place for sports, not politics.

The other stuff and your post belong somewhere else.

Funny you didn’t tell coachzero that?? That’s the problem some people on these board don’t even know this stuff is happening.  I contemplated posting that but something told me too. Oh well

Not being political! al of you all called the kids in Memphis thugs and criminals! I asked what makes them thugs and criminals but not these kids? Nobody called these kids thugs and criminals! I am not the one with the problem!

Not being political ?? Seen your earlier post about the president. Your were insinuating he was a racist and the poster.  Let's call it for what it is. So you support the party of death. Killing babies that have been born at 9 months. UNBELIEVABLE! If you support this party you have no conscience and that tells me what kind of person you are. Why don't you do some research on Margaret Sanger and how this was Hillary Clinton's idol?

Sorry to all the other posters. Didn't mean to get into a rant about politics but I want everyone to be aware of what's happening to our country. Killing babies that are born alive,  is pure evil... So anyone who wants to bash this President who is wanting to protect them should be called out. PERIOD!

Coach Eldridge has done a fantastic job at Maryville HS. He is a great coach and a class act.

Congrats to Maryville and coach Eldridge. He does a great job at Maryville. Maryville will be a tough out in the tournament if they continue to shoot the ball well. As for Alcoa, we just can't seem to get anything going this year. It might be time to think we don't have the right coach for the job. If you can't figure out who your best 5 players are by now then you need to look for another profession. Alcoa basketball deserves better.

  12.  Congrats to Maryville on a well played game. We didn’t play good enough defensively to limit your open looks and we turned the ball over way too much. I don’t understand why you would try and press this Maryville team? It boggles the mind.

Maryville at Alcoa tonight. Always a great atmosphere!

Hopefully we will show up to play. This team has looked good at times and bad at times. If we play good we will have a chance to win. If we don’t we’ll get beat by 20. Should be a good crowd either way. Go Tornadoes!

2009 and 2010 were Alcoa's best teams. 2018 is the next  best.

If we are talking about all time best teams. In my opinion the 89 was the best. That team had 3 or 4 players better than anyone else on the 09 or 10 teams. Shannon Mitchell, Billy Williams and Jamie Henry’s don’t come around very often. If Jamie Henry could have stayed healthy he could have been the best out of the 3. IMO. Not trying to take anything away from the 09 or 10 teams. My nephew played on the line on both of those teams. 09 was probably are 2nd best team. Did the 09 and 10 teams have better depth? Probably but they would not have been able to run it at will on the 89 team. Our linebackers were Shannon Mitchell (Georgia) Jamie Henry(UT) and Chad Smith(MTSU). There’s not a team in the state this year with better linebackers than that. The 88 team would be in my top 6 or 7 best teams even though they were 14-1. They lost to a great BA team in the Championship game.

LA, York and UHS appear to be the top 3 teams in the district. LA hammered UHS at LA. York beat UHS at York in double OT. UHS beat a very athletic Alcoa team last week. Looks like YI and LA play 1/11 @ York. York is at Cumberland County tonight.

Congrats on Upperman for beating my Tornadoes.  They have a bright future and will compete this year and the next few. Gore will be a very good player by his senior year. Very disappointed in our coaches that game, combined with shooting 28% from the field. That's not going to win you many games but that's about what I expected this early in the year. Good luck and hope we see you again...

  16.  Alcoa comes to Baxter Friday to take on the Bees.  Should be an interesting game. We played our best game of the year the game before we got our football players back. Kids are still trying to gel and getting to know their roles on this team. Once this happens we should be pretty good. I’ve watched the travel team (Magic) you guys had about 3 or 4 times this year. Some pretty good players on that team and I expect a good game. Do I need to get there early or is there plenty of seating typically?

    Modern era: (last ten years)

    1. 2010

    2. 2009

    3. 2015

    4. 2018

    5. 2017

I didn’t notice but put 2013 instead of 2015. Typo! The 2015 defense was one of our best ever! At the end of the year that team was playing awesome. A lot of people don’t remember the 1988 team but that team was awesome as well. Lost to BA that year which they ended up being ranked #4 in the country. To me that’s our most underrated team.

  18.   Fulton takes care of business this week and goes 3-0 in the district. AE goes 0-1 with a 9 point loss to Fulton. Alcoa goes 1-0 with a win over Kingston. Scott County goes 0-1 this week with a lose to Fulton and Kingston goes 0-2 with loses to Fulton and Alcoa by 19 in both games. Kingston has improved from last year but still has some work to do. The big story is AE starting 0-2 in the district and Scott County beating them. That means that 2nd and 3rd place is anyones game.

  19.  After looking at the whole body of work this team would definitely rank in the top  5 or 6 best teams. The 1989, 01, 05, 09, 10, 13, and this years team would be my top. The 2005 and 2013 teams were not undefeated but at the end of the year they were playing as good as any Alcoa team that I have seen. The 89 team was probably the best team in my opinion but some people will disagree. The linebacker core on that team was unbelievable and then you had Billy Williams at wide receiver on offense with an all SEC TE to boot. Don’t forget we also had one of the top nose guards in the state that year too. That team was without a doubt the best team in Tennessee that year.

  20.  Very important district games this week. Kingston plays Fulton on Tuesday and Alcoa on Friday. Those two games should gives us some kind of ideal where Kingston is this year. Some people think they could finish second.  Fulton plays Scott County Friday  and AE on Saturday as well.
