  1. Since you have brought up our mascot more than once I'll try and tell you how it came about as best I know. If I'm wrong anywhere any other Peabody fans feel free to correct me. Peabody has a long football history going back to 1921. In the early days the school went through several nickname changes. At one time we were called the "yellow jackets" and the colors were black and gold. In 1937 M. C. Joyner became head coach. Coach Joyner was a big Alabama fan and I think he went to school there. I know his son and grandson who are big Peabody boosters went to school at Bama. Since he was a big Bama fan and gold was one of our colors he changed the nickname to Golden Tide. As I said Peabody has a long football history and was for many years a member if the Big Ten Conference here n west Tennessee. We were always the smallest school in the Big Ten which included such larger schools as Paris Grove which is now Henry Co , Brownsville which is now Haywood County, Covington , and Dyersburg to name a few. This was at a time when there was no classification and in the 60s Jsckson and Brownsville were often ranked number one in the state. While we didn't always win we went toe to toe with these big boys and always gave them a hard game. We may not have the best win lost record around over the years but we do have a proud football history here at Peabody.

That's very interesting to know.  Peabody isn't my Alma Mater, so I'm not familiar with the history.   I guess you could say I married into the Peabody tradition.  Nonetheless, I sure enjoy it.  In fact football was one of the main reasons we settled in Trenton.  We considered Medina, but it didn't have that same hometown feel that Trenton has.  There's something about the camaraderie at a Trenton home game.  It's not something you feel when you step foot at South Gibson since it's a melting pot of various people with very few saying they grew up in Medina.  I've since come to love the Friday night lights watching Peabody play ball. I've even adjusted to saying Roll Tide though I'm not an Alabama fan! lol

  2. Our receivers can definitely catch the ball. It's their job to do so. Malone just has an uncanny ability to put the ball right into their hands. Their speed plays a big role in getting open to catch the pass too. Some games you don't see Malone passing much, but some you do. We can run the ball as well as pass it. I know our coaches have watched tons of NCS footage already. So we shall see Friday night what kind of offense and defense they've put together. I'm still hoping the forecast changes too.

  3. Well I sure haven't bashed any of NCS's players. I don't know enough about them to even try to talk badly of them. I do know our team, so of course I will talk them up. As far as bashing going, Peabody has continuously got the short end of the stick on that. We've been described as ghetto with a urine mascot. Trenton is not a ghetto town. As far as the mascot, I'm not sure how that came about, but it is what it is.

  4. Why are the NCS folks so quiet? Everyone chattered on and on in the week before the WC game. Some even taunted us Peabody folks. When the Peabody/Dresden thread got quiet, I'd meander over in the WC/NCS thread just for the sheer entertainment. Now it's radio silence.

  5. their still trying to get over that scare lit ol WC gave em cause that crowd sure was quite in the 4th qtr..............jaybee...carguy...........its ok your still in it FOR NOW!!!!!!!!!!

they prob be like ........oh crap.....nother west tn team that beat the team that put us out 2 years running!!!!!!!!!!! :popcorneater:

No doubt... They have to be at least slightly worried.  I've myself wondered where JayBee and CarGuy are....   I don't think we will match the 100+ pages that NCS/WC game had....

  6. I'm really hoping the chance of rain changes.  It's looking like a wet Friday evening.  Granted I know Peabody can play in wet conditions just fine.  I didn't make it to the game against KIPP, but I saw the pictures of the field.  It was horrible!  I've never seen a field as bad as that field when it comes to mud.  Peabody still played a solid game despite the conditions.

Now lets just hope the forecast changes!

  7. The Tide looked great on the practice field today!Cant wait for these Friday Night lights!!!I know Trenton will be represented well! We definitely need a penalty free no turnover kinda night!!!ROLL TIDE!THE GOLDEN TRADITION!!!

Let's hope for a different set of refs than what called the NCS/WC game then.  They sounded horrible!   It's been fairly quiet this week around town it seems.  The boys are no doubt working hard preparing for Friday.  They've got their noses to the grind stone!  Is it Friday yet?

  8. Just for clarity, are you referring to our freshmen and Sophs? They obviously didn't play in that game two years ago. Also, as I stated earlier, I have watched about 5 different games thus far and the Bears are beatable. They are an outstanding team but beatable. Hey, we are beatable as well.......we have 5 losses. Remember, we aren't supposed to be here. We are just having fun and enjoying the ride. Somebody projected potentially 5,000 in attendance on Friday!

I totally see how you're feeling, TCAIntense!  We weren't supposed to be where we were last year either.  Yet it happened.   I'll sure be pulling for TCA!  You guys are a class act no doubt.

  9. I like you Peabody boys! Yall will have to deal with Stirringitup all week, he's a true basher and biggest troll on here. As for the NCS guys, they will start popping up by tomorrow evening. Carguy and jaybee will talk smack to the end but are good guys. As for the game I think yall will have to rely on the pass, don't think yall can run on NCS. It's going to come down to how your qb handles the pressure that he will be under. I underestimated NCS secondary a little, they cover well and have great closing speed, they'll come out of nowhere.

That's the thing about our QB....  His instincts are nothing short of amazing.   He threw several passes and connected this past Friday that I don't necessarily think was the plan when the play started.  He will find a hole or a receiver.  Just when you think he's down, he either side steps and runs it in or throws a beautiful pass to gain major yardage.  That instinct is what sets him aside from average.  As far as NCS... You guys will think we're just talking big. No one understands us until you see us.  Then you will be believers.

It happened last year when that playoff spark caught on, and this year that playoff spark seems even stronger!  I'd also like to think that our amazing Coach Woods from the previous couple of years is smiling as he hears about Peabody trudging along through the playoffs this year.  He's got to be proud of the Coaching this year as well!  They've done an amazing job.

  10. No kidding, guys!  Look back on my posts, and I'm sure you will find very few spelling or grammatical errors.  So in all honestly we've been described as idiots who must support an alternative school.  Last I checked we have great schools, a great crowd, and great kids.  Sure there has been an issue or two, but we're talking about teenagers here.  Had their been social media around when most of us were in high school, we'd have some embarrassing memories! I'm thankful to the high heavens that we didn't have social media way back then.

As far as Stirringitup is concerned....  Watch some footage, and you will see that SPEED is a factor in Peabody's success.  Therefore, it's a valid point to discuss.  LAST YEAR is important, because everyone doubted us until we beat them.  Then they suddenly believed and understood.  UNION CITY will be mentioned because they've been the 1A juggernaut for the past couple of years.  NCS can understand how good a win against UNION CITY feels seeing as how UNION CITY is who put them out the past couple of years.  REGION 7 is one hellacious region to be in!  It contains 2 defending State Champions.  How many other regions can say that? And well.... SWEATER VESTS labels are all in good fun.  PRIVATE schools are different than public schools with the entire business aspect of it, but who wants to really go there?  Sure there will be some jibes here and there, but oh well.  It's all in good fun.

Besides this thread would be pretty boring without the mention of all things above.  I want the banter back and forth.  It makes the anticipation for Friday all the more greater!

SOOOOOOOO....... Can I get a ROLL TIDE?

  11. You Trenton guys gotta quit changing your profile pics.  We can't keep you straight.  By the way, just heard that our top 5 skill players on O and the top 5 tacklers on D are not playing this week.

hahaha!  I had to add a pic, and I tried to be different.

I bet those 10 players will be too full on turkey and all the fixings, huh?

  12. Had source text 2 senior players. 1 said why wouldn't he but hasn't heard any news. The other said he's fine and is playing. Source said tweeter account just says "on a mission" !

I know it's just Sunday but surely locals would be talking if there was an issue with his leg.

I can confirm that his twitter does say "we're on a mission" in response to another tweet.  It was late Friday night/early Saturday morning when he tweeted that.

The way he was helped off the field led me to think he had a cramp, but I could be wrong on that.  I say that because the further he walked, the less he limped.

  13. Probably as much as the thug legal defense fund at Trenton.

I find it humorous how many folks think we're so ghetto.  Keep thinking because it will make it all the more fun next week. :)  We're your average family.... nothing crazy here.  Roll Tide!

  14. Glad to see some more Peabody folks here on Coach T.  I'm looking forward to a week of banter back and forth.  I think it's going to be a great game.  I always love making trips to Nashville.  It's a great city, so naturally I'm even more excited to be making the trip to support our Tidemen!  Roll Tide!

  15. And for what it's worth.... I don't try to say anything too terribly negative on here by any means. However, all week our players have been described as classless.... Yet they were greeted by a tv (that isn't typically there) in their locker room with various sticky notes on it aimed at them. It was a prank of course... Just like Malone was pranking Union City with the pic of him and the tv. Soooo with Malone being trashed all week over the tv pic, was it really classy of Dresden to put a tv in Peabody's locker room with taunting messages? I doubt it! It's a good thing that all the negative talk only adds fuel to Peabody's fire.

Other than that, Dresden has a fine program.

  16. Peabody got their revenge & payback, Malone was sumin.. I truly hope his late injury is nothing major. Dresden got our own spanking tonight. Represent Reg.7 well Tide and whoop that private school! Then make history and get consecutive gold in two diff classes. Congrats. Dresden's only two losses were to the defending 1A & 2A champs, went 11-2 from 6-6 last year. Not bad at all. Lions go round ball now.. Tide rolls on.

Wow. I haven't thought of it that way. Dresden sure has no reason to hang their heads after a season like this. The Lions will be a force to reckon with next year. No doubt!

  17. Is this Malone kid as accurate as Rice?

Good question. I've haven't read up on Rice too terribly much. I will say that Malone connected with his receivers even when I don't necessarily think that was the intended play. He's quick on his feet and has amazing instincts while on the field.
