  1. So I've seen them play over the last few years and it seems like they have some decent size kids. So tell me what is lacking at this school? because their district doesn't seem that awful! Now I know getting coaches to stay and putting a staff together is a whole different issue. But I'm talking about consistent play on the field.

Stepping stone job. Good place for an up and coming assistant to get his beak wet and some HC experience for the resume, but little else there to offer. Maybe a decent season here or there (they finished 2nd in the region and I think even won a playoff game back in 2009) but not a place for long term success.

I definitely agree with you on this. I think the peak here is trying to beat clarksville and NE, basically fighting for that second or third spot each year. But I forgot springfield was just added to the region so that's going to make it tough for a lot of clarksville schools.

You mean like the guy they had in Vernon Wright?

He never succeed because he had a new staff every year, meaning he had big communication issues among his staff and never trusted anyone. So you bring someone in who does the opposite!

What's the deal with this school? I know Northeast and Clarksville are the better programs in the city, however it seems Northwest has a solid talent base. Why do so many coaches fail to cultivate that talent?

IMO they need a someone who is young and hungry to come take over that program. Someone who can relate to the demographics in that area and can invest the time to turn around that culture. Because it's a gonna be a grind with no parent or administrative support. They have had pretty decent talent over the years and have failed to do anything with it.

I'd love to see the 23 teams nationally who would beat Oakland.  I'd honestly love to see one of them.  The IMG team that played Ravenwood on ESPN this past year would have had a difficult time with Oakland.

Trinity out of KY are a different breed. Gave up 40 yds rushing all year in a class ranked top 10 to play in from unapproved website.

You can change the title of this topic or start a new thread. Smith County is not looking for a new coach. CMD will be announced sometime Monday; Tuesday at the latest. Yes, the schedule will be challenging. The team was mostly underclassmen, but all those have had a year's experience. I expect with some quality coaching and the experience of last season, those young men will show improvement. The schedule will include Gordonsville, Trousdale, Westmoreland, and Macon, Dekalb out of region. Can anyone really argue Smith shouldn't play those games? Over the next few years they will win some of those matchups and lose some of them, but if you are wanting to see the program progress, looking for patsies every 2 years is fool's gold. No coach worth having looks for lesser competition. The lessons learned from a hard fought loss are the foundation of the successful ascent, not the pyrite of padding a win column.

I doubt any of the people in charge of these decisions really care what I think, but it appears that the attempt to change the culture of that program has initiated.

Actually the no coach worth having looks for patsies is very wrong when trying to rebuild a struggling program! I know because because I’ve been there and watched many of my colleagues do it. When you’re struggling and especially with participation from inside your hallways you schedule winnable games to increase your numbers. It pans itself out because when you get your program running the way you like it no longer will those teams want to play you anyway but at that point you’ve got a team on the field that can compete at least with the mid tier teams!

For some reason they are posting every single coaching job in Metro and then the coaches have to go back in and apply and get re-assigned to them. It makes absolutely no sense, but it is Metro so it never does.

Wow the strangest thing I’ve ever heard.

How?? On the getting tickets part?

So they should be using GO FAN. So for instance I would search northeast High school and buy a ticket of their go fan sales. But I just looked it up and either they are sold out, haven't posted the game yet or don't use go fans anymore.

Oak Ridge has an enrollment of 1496 and is 5A.  Northeast has an enrollment less at 1494 but is 6A?  Has Northeast already said they are playing up to be with Rossview, West Creek and Clarksville?

I was thinking the same thing. But they may wanna play up to get away from Henry county and travel would be easier!

All the schools you mentioned are 6A if the DC you refer to is Dickson County, and also Clarksville is right on the cut line. It appears Springfield is right in the middle of 5A.

If I was Dickson I wouldn't mind playing up in that region because it would seem more winnable than having henry, dyer and potentially Springfield to play every year.
