  1. Who are you talking about? Jurick? Would he have to sit out a year?
  2. Is this the same as the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association (TACA) sponsored all star game? From their website: "The 2009 boys and girls All-Star basketball game will be held March 28, 2009 at Trevecca Nazarene College."
  3. Because Farragut finally figured out they had to play zone and has the size and enough quickness to match up. They played them even the last 3 quarters of the second game and finally realized they could play with them. Farragut beat Science Hill in the beginning of the year (before they got "coached up") and gave Walker Valley their only loss so they were a pretty good balanced team when their bigs weren't in constant foul trouble. It's all about matchups. Is there a Memphis team that has enough size to match up with Simpson, Parker, Craig, and has superior quickness? Plus what are the odds that Blevins will have another melt down like last years DB sectional loss? In the Farragut game Bearden was definitely better when they played the big 5 more.
  4. Hunley did a great job hitting his free throws and putting the game away down the stretch when Campbell County had to foul but the story of the game was that Campbell County could not stop Watson who got 21 hard earned points in the paint plus some assists, blocks, a key steal and rebounds. If Farragut plays smart and lets the post players touch the ball every time down the floor they are a much better team and probably the second best in the Region because no one but Bearden can match up. As always this time of year Coaching is a big factor on who moves on..... Just like last year 3 of the 4 remaining teams are out of District 4 shows District 3 isn't as good.
  5. East Tennessee has a few players that can really throw it down this year. Nate Parker (Bearden) - is clearly the best overall dunker winning the Arby's dunk contest. I would classify him as more of a finesse dunker he is so long and athletic. Best I have seen in years around east Tn. Sam Watson (Farragut) - Gets my vote for the best power dunker. At 240 he is is also athletic enough to come in with some speed. About ripped the backboard down in a dunk against Bearden this year. Had 4-5 power dunks in the second half against West the other night. Demonte Simpson (Bearden) - also a great power dunker but doesn't come in off the fast break with as much speed or off the dribble as Watson does. But at 265 you know when he throws it down. Chase Jones (AE) - just a great all around leaper and dunker. Won dunk contest as a sophmore in Thompson Boling kickoff tourney 2 years ago. Little twin Chance can throw it down too. Blake Jenkins (Bearden) - Long and athletic and great leaper. Lester Wilson (Carter) - Athletic power dunker? Haven't seen him that much. Travei Pryor (AE) - Loves to dunk but comes up short sometimes. May be one of the best next year. Joe Meade (Carter) - Good dunker. Who else is out there? Any outside Knoxville area? Who are the best small guys?
  6. Sevier County (ugh!!!) and West.
  7. It is close but I would switch Farragut and Science Hill from your previous ranking based on the head to head win. DB probably deserves to be #2, Farragut #3 and SH #4. I would put Lenoir City at #10 over Greenville. 1) Bearden (not invincible) 2) Dobyns Bennett (good guards and good size) 3) Science Hill (very athletic and will improve - close games with Briarcrest and DB ) 4) Farragut (Farragut beat Science Hill in November, but SH has more potential to make a run) 5) Walker Valley (well coached and great starting 5. Depth is an issue) 6) Oak Ridge (maybe overrated - the district is very weak this year) 7) Red Bank (some impressive wins) 8) Maryville (we'll see where they are after January) 9) Karns (weak schedule thus far but a good team) 10) Greenville (probably top 5 at home (never have seen more one-sided officiating), not on the list away)
  8. Walker Valley plays great team ball and is very well coached but they only go 5 deep and don't have anyone that can match up with a big guy like Sam Watson. Farragut wore them down by the end of the game. Farragut also did not shoot that well and only made about 40% of their free throws. Farragut actually should have beat them by more. WV might be able to hang with Bearden for a quarter or 2 but they would not be able to match up with Bearden's size and waves of subs coming at them. Bottom line- Farragut won in the head to head they should be ranked above Walker Valley.
  9. ild probly switch Farragut and walker valley since fhs beat them
