  1. Upper Cumberland is the worst its ever been. Great win for Macon County. Congrats. Carter was outstanding. Upper Cumberland "grind" had nothing to do with it. Best region in the state is Middle Tennessee this year (the same one the state champ has come from the last two years, though I don't believe the state champ will come from there again).

  2. The MVP is not Cole and Ward, though each is a solid player. Those White House numbers are skewed because they have given up points quickly in order to get opportunities to play a fast-paced game. The impact of those numbers is not near as much as a team that plays at a much slower pace. Desmarais is the MVP. Several of the teams could win the tournament though. There should be lots of interesting games. It will very likely end for all four teams that emerge from 9-AA in the first round of the region though. It's not as high quality of basketball this year.

  3. Who cares about the polls. I'm sure there will be a shakeup. Upperman and McMinn both won at home in their two games. CC and Westmoreland both won at home. They're all quality teams. East and P-C went to OT. They're all right there together, though it does appear that Upperman and McMinn could be the cream of the crop. Time will tell. Quality of play in AA is better across the state than in recent years. There's more parity, though there's not one clear-cut favorite. But nobody saw MLK winning it two years ago, nor East Nashville making its run last year. Maybe it will be another surprise this season. Good luck to all.

  4. I've been following basketball in the Upper Cumberland for 30 years and i cannot think of anytime that the girls team brought in anyone from the outside.  They lost a couple of really good ones to Jackson County but who did they recruit?  It wasn't Levy i know the story behind this and by the way name the 3 high schools she has played at Bro.

I read this out of context. My apologies. I thought this was saying that any UC girls team brought in anyone from the outside. It's talking specifically about Upperman. We are a little sensitive about our Upperman girls.

  5. Have always heard that they recruit each other's players in the UC. Monterey players regularly vacating the premises for Clarkrange (even pre-Molly Heady). Laken Leonard moved from RBS to Jackson County after two seasons. I believe that Ashley Howard and Chelsey Brown were outside transfers for Clarkrange.

  6. Elizabethton has played nobody. Every win is over a sub-500 team. Their one opponent with a winning record resulted in a seven-point loss to a 4-3 Science Hill team in the season opener. I'm not bashing Eton. But I feel they'll struggle with CAK in the second round. I wouldn't be surprised if they struggled with Scott or McMinn Central (likely McMinn Central) in the opening round. It's just hard to pick up your level of play when you're so accustomed to playing a lower level of competition. Good luck to the Cyclones though.

  7. I'm hoping for great things outta my eagles this week. We saw some good stuff Friday night. Hopefully we can keep improving with our heavy sophomore laiden team.

That team may be sophomore laden, but if so, those sophomores are standing on the sideline. The only sophomore who is making a significant impact is Sloan, and he wasn't a major factor offensively last Friday. I can only think of two other sophomores who are playing any snaps. You can spin it to call the team junior laden, but there will be more losses to graduation than some apparently realize (Carter, Crowson, Carter, James, York, Watson, Gardner, Wright, Hall are among the seniors).
