  1. I'm not jealous. I've stated several times both of these kids are very good Class A players, but they get away with too much dirty play, too much yapping. That falls on the coaches.

Those are some pretty big claims. The coaches can do all they want. The players make their own decisions. I know Silvey played dirty last year. I personally saw him stomp on, and late hit our QB in Cookeville, but I've heard that he's cleaned up a bit. You can't pin personal decisions on the coaches though. We've had a few players make some decisions on the field for NCS that the coaches can't control.

  2. Any lineman that's the caliber of Givens, Lawless , Silvey and many more will be double and triple teamed every play, it's when they still make plays is what seperates them and the fact that when they're doubled up on is leaving other players unblocked so stats don't mean much on the defensive line. On the offensive side the lineman can be graded on percentage of blocking the right person and number of missed blocks and assignments. Back when I played it was pin your ears back and go when the ball is snapped, now a defensive tackles biggest job is to control the line, read the guards and keep the linebackers unblocked. I've said for years that a good defensive tackle has to be the most unselfish player on the team, giving up plays by doing their job so others can.

Absolutely. And I know both do a great job of that.

  3. I'm going to give my two cents worth on Lawless, and it's just my honest opinion. Keep in mind I'm not bashing as I have much respect for NCS and Lawless but he's not the best lineman this year and I've seen a lot of lineman over the years that I thought were better than the winners. Silvey is mr football, he is one of the better lineman I've seen in a long time. College offers don't make you the best, or even really good when you got size like he does with good speed. I'll give you a couple of examples then I'll sit here and get hammered from some other posters. Alex Givens, not a great high school lineman but was recruited on his size alone, ole miss taught him to play and is doing well but I watched him get his butt handed to him more than once in high school. Another is Hutchinson from Huntingdon, not a great lineman but was big and fast and I'm sure South Carolina will turn him into a fine player. Last year at WC which was his senior year, coach Rice had a freshman lined up on him all night and he only had a couple of tackles if that and they were on busted plays where the qb scrambled around. Like I said I'm not bashing them but Silvey deserves the award, just being big, fast and highly recruited don't make you good

I understand your point. GIvens wasn't a completely dominant player in high school. Heck, I think he's doing better in the SEC than he did in high school. Good to see him get much better and do well though. I didn't say that Lawless should win Mr. Football because of offers. I just said that because beerman challenged me lol. After reviewing Lawless's film again, and watching Silvey's, I think Lawless is the better player. That's why I asked if it was based on stats. I'm sure Silvey has better stats because Lawless was literally triple teamed almost every play. If it goes by stats, then Silvey had the stats and, by all means, should win the title of Mr. Football. If I remember correctly, Bituli didn't have the stats that some did last year, but he won because he was such a factor. I figured it'd be the same way this year. No hard feelings! Like I said, congrats to Silvey.

  4. Dresden winning by 28? That's laughable.

I said suspicions lol. But, like I've been saying all week...unless that GB defensive line can BRING WINN DOWN (not just get to him, bring him down), they're going to have a long ride back come Friday afternoon. I just don't see anyone matching up well with Dresden's playmakers this year. I think that D-line can drastically affect the ballgame though.

  5. i have watched several west teams play this year and they don't hold a light compared to the NCS team last year. I'm not saying that their not good but not as good. I also agree with what O&B said earlier in a post that coalfield and sp is a top 5 team after watching several of these teams play. Jmo

I don't think anyone holds a light to our team last year either. Not a single team in 1A this year. Or even 2A. Teams with that mix of talent, heart, and work ethic don't come around much.

  6. I'm going to act like you are kidding. Union City would have mercy ruled Whitwell. You saw a Union City team with about 8-9 starters missing. The west hasn't been overrated. All of those west powers were good last season as well. They just didn't forget how to play this year. Even our Pirates aren't totally back just yet. Greenback is a good, solid 1A football team. Columbia Academy wasn't a good team either. The east had three pretty good teams. Greenback, SP, and Coalfield. That's the only ones that were better than a average 1A team. The west had Dresden, Huntingdon, Union City, Trousdale, Wayne County, and NCS. They had a lot more quality than us. I didn't say Greenback had no shot in this game either.

Trousdale? No disrespect, but I don't even know if they were the 2nd best in our region.

  7. Woowee! Welp...I just got done got watching film and this one is in the bag! I'll give it to their QB. I know he probably should've won Mr. Football twice even though that never happens to players from over there. And I'll even say he's the best player in 1A...but he won't be able to get a pass off with our monsters on the D line! Sorry Dresden...you guys just don't realize what you're signing up for. We got here to the big dance last year with the same group pretty much and are probably one of the most dominant 1A teams ever this year with most of our core back with this senior group. The running game doesn't scare me one bit. He's running over midgets and doesn't have that much speed. They know a QB can't run but a handful of times against a team our size. Dresden's defense doesn't impress me one bit. We like to run outside and our big boys will put the outside linebackers on their back every play...just watch. Dresden also won't see our play action passes since they'll be so worried about our run game. We could run the same play the entire game and still win this. Our O linemen is about to embarrass the front 7 of Dresden....you might not like it but you'll be forced to accept it. Yyyyeeeeee, yyyyyyeeeee!!!! Get em up Kees! Let's do it this time babaaay!!

You may very well be right. Your line may (and probably will) whoop Dresen's line all morning long on both sides of the ball. But I'm telling you.. Dresden has the playmakers to play around it. I can't believe I said that because there's not many teams at all that I can say that about.

  8. I predicted Dresden to have about the same success as last year, and I was forced to admit I couldn't have been more wrong. One of my best friends is a sports writer and statistician. Winn averages more yards per carry than anybody in the state (15 ypc). I kid you not, he was averaging 23 ypc and throwing at 83% with 1 INT going into week 8. When Dresden faced the murderers row and big region three in Trenton, UC and Humboldt, just in that stretch, he was sacked a cartoonish amount of times (which hurt his ypc average). That's where Greenback will have an advantage, but their o line has got better based off what I got to see last Friday. Drop everybody back into zone coverage, and Dresden will proudly run the ball with Winn and Yates. Yates was averaging 13 YPC and had 1,296 rushing yards in the regular season, so, yeah, good luck with all that. I've watched Dresden more this year than I ever have, and they're seriously one of the best teams from this area ever. Greenback is one of the strongest contenders from the East in years. This game will be an absolute dog fight.

Great post and great stats! Like I said, the pressure is on this Greenback D-line. If they can get their jobs done well, it will be a dog fight.

  9. Those are the 3 best lineman I seen on the football field this year, period. I have not seen yalls kid. He could be what yall say he is, maybe he will play on Saturdays, with his size why wouldn't he?

How can you claim the "best linemen" if you haven't even seen Lawless play? And I'm actually laughing at "maybe he will play on Saturdays". Do you realize that Lawless can play anywhere he wants. He has offers from LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama. You name it.

  10. Good luck to both teams. I'm not going to predict a score or even a win/loss for either team, because simply I have no seen Greenback play in person this year and that my friends would be irrational.

That being said, just trying to give some info on this Dresden team, which I have seen. As far as 1A is concerned, I can't put a finger on a team that has been loaded with this much talent on the athletic positions in a long time. Greenback will need to be feisty and explosive in the trenches (and from what I can comprehend, they might just be that). As a high school football fan, I'm hoping for this one to be close till the end!

In a long time? What about last year's Champs? :/

  11. As a neutral fan. They are much better than 2015. They had their entire team returning this season. The Dresden defense is solid, but it's not near as salty as NCS was last season. Greenback will score points in this game. I'm just curious to see how they handle Dresser Winn. The kid is the most dominant 1A QB since Jacob Tucker from Perry County.

I truly hope it's a close game. Somehow I feel like either

    1. The Greenback line will take over and dominate the game.

    OR

    2. Dresser Winn will make play and pass/rush for 9283726 yards.

My guess would be on #2, but who knows.

BTW, I'm wondering why no one has talked about Winn's rushing ability. Based on his Hudl highlighrs, I'm just as impressed with the kid's ability to keep the secondary honest. Everyone seems to be so caught up in that golden arm that they forget about his legs!
