If you’re supposed to wrestle and you’re trying to fight for a district title, you should treat the week and day as if you’re still wrestling and be ready. If one cancels then you find somewhere else to wrestle and don’t tell your team prematurely that they aren’t wrestling. The district has to be determined within a certain number week of season. Show up and stay ready to wrestle. Can’t do district after the allotted week for it. Sucks.

Districts have until the 28th of this month to be completed. Some districts like to schedule early to try and gain an advantage by having more time off in between teams and individual tournaments. TSSAA posts the competition dates online

Clinton isn't beating Halls any time this decade.

They both lost to Gibbs last night and the difference in losing scores were 4 points. Gibbs beat Clinton by 19 and they beat halls by 15.  Oh and CHS took two forfeit. Nevermind that Halls and Clinton have not and will not face each other as a team this season. I think real wrestling people know that it was close enough to find out the right way.

This is the most absurd thing I have heard? What is your relationship to Clinton? Sounds like an upset parent because "little Johnny" didn't get his way.

Sure.  You are right.  when things in today's world are inequitable, the best thing to do is to accept it and move on right? Its not okay to be upset because "little Johnny" is denied the chance to compete against a team that they should be allowed to in a situation where they should be in.  Forgive me for saying anything about Halls. I'd recommend you to speak to coach Sayne and see how much of this is true or not true

I for one am not disappointed in Sayne and I'm sure they're not concerned. As a previous poster has already stated, they run a class program and one of the best around here. Sounds like butthurt from a mid tier program to me...

So because the have won alot, other teams and kids should just suck it up when something unfair happens?

  5. Also, I am sure you are aware of district rules that all coaches have to agree to the change of venue or on anything for that matter so just because Halls said that this is what is going to happen, doesn't mean it is supposed too if the other district coaches don't agree. The Halls coach does not make the decisions by himself for the entire district so that fact that the Clinton coach didn't agree doesn't make it a forfeit, it makes it where no district truly took place.

  6. Clinton took the high road last night because I assume they know how special region duals can be for any wrestler and did not want a conflict between two teams to tarnish that for all involved. Trust me when I say this that there is a large group of wrestling coaches in this area right now that have lost a ton of respect for coach Sayne and as for the folks I know, they will no longer be taking their kids to Halls in the summer to be involved with coach Sayne in any way.

Districts were scheduled to be at Fulton last week.  Knox County schools were closed due illness so they had to find another venue.  Coach Sayne was pro-active and tried to find a place for the match.  Anderson County High School, which is located between both Clinton and Halls  and was hosting a AA district dual that evening, agreed to host the small school duals as well  (This happened a couple of years ago when Pigeon Forge hosted both the small school and large school region duals when Knox County was not allowed to host).  Coach Sayne relayed this information to both the Fulton and Clinton Coaches. Fulton decided to Forfeit instead, and the Clinton coach claimed that this was too late notice, he thought they would not wrestle and his guys could not make weight in time (aka... he forfeited).   This was the rational used for Halls having the 1 seed, and Clinton having the 2 seed.  GIven the circumstances, Halls agreed to wrestle Clinton for a true 2nd if they lost to Gibbs (which they did). This was the story told to me from a pretty reliable source when I was in the crow last night. Also, I watched Clinton pack up and leave before the end of the Halls and Gibbs match.

Yes the District rescheduling was short notice, but do not claim that the man that took the initiative to find the solution to the problem is the one at fault. And the concept of wrestling at Anderson County is not as outlandish as you claim it to be, given the proximity of the schools and the fact that it was a precedent set just two years ago.

I can assure you that Halls did not agree to a true second match.  In this sport, kids don't eat all day to maintain weight, you know that, and being at home adds to the difficulties of that.  The Clinton coach made a choice to tell it was canceled when Fulton dropped the match.  Kids started eating, drinking, relaxing and then the halls coach "was proactive" in finding this match.  If he cared about kids and cared about the sport, he would of honored the true second regardless because it was the right thing to do but instead he was scared of the narrative that little ol Clinton had a chance to kick Halls out of region duals.  I have heard from a reliable source that the AD at Clinton was on the phone with the AD and head principal at Halls until 4:30 yesterday begging for the true second match to take place but they would not and did not agree.

Because of that, the AD at Gibbs said that whatever is going to happen after the championship match last night(i.e. the true second) it needed to be agreed upon before arriving to Gibbs.  Since there was no agreement, Clinton knew going in to the duals the true second wasn't an option and left after their match.

Word on the street is that Clinton was not “weight ready” for district. Has to be wrestled within a certain number assigned week per TSSAA. Also that Clinton left before they could argue they wanted a true second after region finals.  Coach Sayne is well respected. Bold to say that he would “steal” a district title that most would argue they would have anyways.

Also, I’d say we owe it to kids to not just assume a team would win but rather actually winning. If this was football or basketball we wouldn’t even be having this conversation

Also, word on the street is that Clinton didn’t want to cause a scene and ruin a big night for a lot of high school kids by putting a stain on the evening so they made a grown up decision to not cause an altercation

The real word is that the match was hosted by Fulton who canceled and then sayne calls AC to find a neutral site for district but by that time both the Fulton and Clinton coaches told their teams it was canceled. Where ever you get your word ask them if Fulton wrestled too? Fulton canceled on districts, it was their host for this year

The same situation has played out numerous times and handled varies ways.  Usually a coin flip to determine who's number 1 and who's the number 2 'seed', OR the two will wrestle each other to begin the evening (or sometimes both coaches are confident they'll win their first round match and will wrestle in the finals with both the Region and District championships.  There are also plenty of examples of teams not wrestling in the Region finals because they wrestled already,  Each district and region has the freedom to determine their own criteria.

Also, word to the wise, 'Halls Wrestling' - both the youth program and high school team, are ran by some of the most well respected coaches not just in the area, but across the entire state. So kind of peculiar coach to call out specifically for any wrong doing, or say he is trying to 'steal' a district title.  If you want a better explanation of what's going on, or the rational behind the decision of the seeding, I am sure Coach Sayne will talk to you personally.  Additionally, If both your teams lose to Gibbs, I am sure he will be happy to wrestle off for a 'true second'.  However the saying, "be careful what you wish for' may be applicable if that scenario plays out.

Halls and coach Sayne declined the option to wrestle in the true second. Principal, AD, and coach all said no to the true second and the difference in the loss to Gibbs by both teams was 4 points. Clinton tried everything to get a fair shake…wrestle before, wrestle after, wrestle a different day…flip a coin and even to no avail

true 2nd for a 3 team district?  Or true 2nd for region- which assumes both teams lose to Gibbs? (which isn't really a safe assumption).

Halls is nowhere near as solid as they were 4 or 5 years ago, but I don't see them losing  in that district for awhile. Arguments on who would beat who aside, in years past District titles have been determined on coin flips, past years results, or numerous other criteria when matches get cancelled for school closures.

But how many times is it decided by one team making the final choice for the whole district, who happens to be the only team without a district match or win?  Halls simply said, "Knox wont let us compete tonight, but I found another gym to go to, if you don't show up its a forfeit? True second for region if both teams fall to Gibbs is what my buddy told me.

  13. Halls has wrestled no members of their district and due to Fulton having to cancel last Thursday because Knox county said only practice, Halls is trying to say the other teams could meet at ACHS and wrestle which isn’t even a region school. Clinton and Fulton believed it to be canceled and now Halls is using a kangaroo Court to try and steal the district 1 seed. Clinton has asked for a true second match at regions tonight since halls and them haven’t faced each other but halls would rather steal. Sad that this historic program would sink this low just to win

The Athletic Director at Oak Ridge High School  Mike Mullins checks all the information on all transfers and I can assure you he doesn't let anything slip. If someone is playing for Oak Ridge in any sport they have been throughly checked out and cleared to play. End of story!

There it is your so fascinated with whoever you think I am but let me know that you are a little bit weird and obsess with the situation that’s going on.  More like “ Rent Free in your mind” who that sound like….. I’m not a former coach or parent of any kids currently playing in HS. But what I noticed is that you like them kids (west kids ) too much and if Im correct your just admitted to stalking them kids and their family which like I said is some pedophile stuff!   To be honest hope they don’t find out because then the Feds can go and get your handle and info and take your nasty self to jail!!!

Stalking IS against the law, but what is not is people being so tired of you and your bull that they would rather see their own school turned in then to have you around anymore. See your problem is you talk to much, and you think that the people you talk to in confidence don’t tell other folks. You want it to be some other guys so bad because you know deep down I have to be someone close to you. You should of kept your friends close and your enemies even closer
