Creasy kept it closer than it should have been with some cute playcalling! He usually wins when he has superior talent! If Quarles had stayed at Maryville, different outcomes! West must have been horrible if WhiteHaven was their best! Congrats to Oakland!

    GO JACKETS!

But everyone said all week leading up to the game, WH has superior talent. Look at all the D1 offers.

I guess CKC coached 'em up this time huh?

Lol man lol. I bet you thought the same against maryville in 2015,2017 and whitehaven in 2016. It doesn’t work except when teams have a lesser dline. Oakland literally plays cover 3 and 1 all game. Try that vs a qb that can throw and a good Oline it’s lights out

The fact of the matter is CKC is .500 versus Maryville.  The defense let Oakland down against Whitehaven and destroyed very team on the schedule with a good Oline and QB. Kiss the ring, we are the champs!

Murfreesboro and Rutherford County have gotten so big, there's really no "community support" in athletics anymore. All of our schools are gigantic except, DII Middle TN Christian, Providence Academy and Tiny 2A Eagleville. I don't know actual figures but I would bet Eagleville has as big of crowds on Friday Night as many of our 6A schools.

Did you come to the Maryville game at home or see how Oakland traveled to MJ?

No, sounds like TSSAA picks and chooses what they want to happen. You don't just quit a job because you don't like it and show up at a new one the next day.

Not to be an butt, if his parents did divorce you stay at said school until the season over and the transfer out, not transfer to a district opponent.

Again from what is circulating, Bishop wanted to stay but mom said he was living with her. IF that is the case, why should the child be punished for the actions of adults.  I think TSSAA is wrong in a lot of areas. I think this is not one of them

  5. To play devils advocate here, how do you know what is going on with these players that transferred?  I have heard a lot of things about Bishop leaving and that his parents divorced. The kid didn't want to leave. I have no idea if that is true or not.  I do know that if the kids that elect to leave aren't happy, they can and should transfer if the family follows the rules set up by TSSAA. To say there isn't a reset button in life, give me a break! There isn't a person on coacht that hasn't left a job because they were unhappy. It happens!

Sounds to me like some folks may be unhappy that little Johnny got demoted because of a transfer

Really great old school football game.   Everything turned on the blocked punt.   That forced MJ to play from behind in the fourth quarter and that's tough to do against a defense like Oakland.   Anytime you force a team to throw the ball that doesn't throw the ball much, you've definitely got things going your way.   Hat's off to Coach Trey Perry and his staff for an outstanding game plan entering this one.    Really showed some "Stones" going for it on 4th and one from his own 27 yard line.   I wouldn't of done it, but extremely glad it was successful because it would of gotten the worse kind of criticism had they not made it.   Good season Mt. Juliet and very excited I'll be calling the best game in the State next week on 93.9 FM as the Oakland Patriots host the Maryville Rebels!

The thing about the 4th and 1 is the MJ RB never got back to the line of scrimmage. Perry worked that official into a favorable spot.  That same guy also gave MJ a favorable spot on what should have been a safety.

Oakland got the W nonetheless. Pats move on!

Dominate is a strong word. I will admit I don't believe they will "Dominate" them up front, but they will certainly hold their own up front and be able to drive the ball down the field. I see everyone has taken that word to heart. I'm just saying the size and athleticism of both teams offensive and defensive lines are closely matched, but MJ's overall strength at those positions will give them the edge. Once again, I originally posted in response to a guy claiming MJ had no talent and it was a "Pipe Dream" for them to even compete with Oakland, when on paper and film, they look to be the slightly better team. But what's on paper doesn't play a factor in what happens on the field. I don't have a dog in this fight, I'm just a fan. I think it will be a heck of a game. I will say I am impressed with the talent that has come through Tennessee in the last 10-12 years. I currently live out of state in a place where they believe football is God and that aside from California, Florida, and Texas no one can compete with their talent. Saying this, Broken Arrrow, Union, And Jenks are some of the top teams in my state, and often beat the best teams out of Texas.  I believe the level of talent in the state of Tennessee is very underrated and able to compete with some of the best teams in the country.

I think we would all agree everyone is chasing the Rebels until someone can knock them off the throne. When you break down the teams, Oakland's 1's have given up just over 4 points per contest. MJ is very close to that.  Again, MJ was better than Blackman. Friday night cant get here fast enough

Not basing it off of who has more offers. That is ridiculous. Just responding to the guy who said MJ is average with no talent. Oakland is very talented but I believe they match up well in that category. Woodie Washington (Oklahoma)  vs JR. Malik Bowen (offers:Ole Miss, Duke,Memphis) will be a tougher test than the Knox kid from Blackman was. But I think your right, there probably won't be much passing because of how good Oakland's secondary is. MJ's line up front is much stronger and all around team strength is too much considering they can match them with speed. Oakland is extremely talented and MJ has been overlooked all year because of their untested schedule. This will be a great game but why I'm giving them the edge is their team strength. MJ will dominate them up front on both sides of the ball and Oakland doesn't have a quarterback who is accurate enough to expose MJ's holes in their pass defense.

If you go through the MJ/Blackman thread, I actually said all week MJ would likely beat Blackman. I think Blackman was highly overrated upfront and I thought their QB would have to make some throws to win the game.

I completely disagree with your assessment that Oakland will be dominated up front. Blackman was not dominated up front. MJ is a really good team and has great character. That shined through last Friday night. Blackman didnt handle adversity well at all. They pointed fingers and fell apart.

This will be the best front MJ has seen all year.  I think MJ QB will have to make throws as well as the Oakland QB. In that matchup, Oakland has the better passer. I also think MJ will get a heavy dose of Myers.

Heard a lot about the atmosphere of MJ, looking forward to making the trip. Hope both teams play their best

I've watched both Mt. Juliet and Oakland play this season and can say that the talent is evenly matched. If anything, Mt. Juliet has the edge with 4 players receiving Division 1 scholarships and half a dozen more of their starters will play college football at the D2/NAIA level. They're strong up front and have a slew of backs in their arsenal that can pick up tough yards. Their defensive line is dominant and #23 6'4 240lbs Bryan Aiken (who hasn't played football since 8th grade and already received scholarships from Louisville and Memphis with more to come) is one of the most dominant Defensive ends I've seen in high school football in a while. Their weakness is definitely pass defense especially in the Flats. I see MJ pulling this one out though, 31-21.

If we are basing this game off who has more D1 scholarship offers( which is insane), then the game wont be close based on your logic. Oakland has 8 kids with D1 offers as it stands right now. Both teams are very stingy on defense and both teams do a great job of holding on to the ball. If there aren't any turnovers, this could be a game that's over by 845. Probably not a lot of passing here.  Timely penalties will also play a factor on Friday night. I dont see either team being able to overcome being behind the chains.

  10. Very interesting list here. Frankly, I'm shocked Kenneth Walker was left off the list. He has similar numbers to the Starling. Arlington does have a 5-5 record but then again so does Sheffield. Here are the list of guys

    AJ Davis, Maryville

    TJ Sheffield, Independence

    Devon Starling, Cane Ridge

    Xavier Myers, Oakland

    Woodi Washington Oakland

You can make a case of each of these young men being finalist but I am going to go with Starling, Myers and Washington.

Davis has did not start the season off as well as the other guys.

Sheffield has two terrible games against Oakland and Ravenwood.

Starling posted the highest rushing totals of anyone on the list. #2 in TD

Myers led the Oakland rushing attack averaging almost 10 YPC and led this list with 24TD

Washington shut down his side of the field on defense. Was big time on special teams and clutch for Oakland on offense.

Love to hear some other discussion....

I had a talk with someone before the season who was closer to the program than me and he told me that Oakland is not really a wing-t team.  They run multiple sets.

I would agree with that. You watch Oakland play and they can come at you in so many different ways and so many different guys.

  13. Blackman's out of region schedule was not great. Hendersonville was their best out of region opponent at 7-3. The rest of the non region schedule was .500.  This isnt the same MJ team from last year. They will not get dominated up front. This game will come down to the Blackman QB getting the ball to Elder and Otey. If he cant get going, the home team will prevail.

  14. I'm not sure why everyone thinks this game will get out of hand. When taking a look at common opponents, both teams scored 28 on Hendersonville and one could make the arguement MJ actually dominated Cookeville while Blackman allowed the Cavs to somewhat hang around in the first half.  I think this game comes down to the Blackman QB and it's that simple. Can he make enough throws to keep the chains moving at the critical moments or will he turn it over?

I dont see either team with a lot of gashing type runs. I expect this game to be very physical. One thing to watch from a couple of the Blackman players is will they keep their cool if the game is close. Untimely unsportsmanlike penalties COULD play a factor.  Friday can get here fast enough
