Will be an interesting matchup , but NCS will be way to physical for TKA to hang for four qtrs. I'll take NCS to win by 17.

TKA is a physical team. I don't know about 17 bit I hope you're right

    Agreed.

TKA played a very phsical game against FC.  Both LBs are players.  Lusby was all over the field.  Look for him to get more carries in this NCS game.  He is a punishing runner.  I was impressed with the defensive play of #77 for TKA.  He has great feet and his pursuit to the ball was strong.  I look for TKA to give NCS a game.  The TKA RB did not play in the FC game.  His film play is impressive.

While I agree that Hylick will get his yards, the MJCA defense will struggle to slow down the DA offense.

Going to be some great football from here on out.  Congrats to all the players that have worked so hard to get here!  May they play with a full heart and enjoy injury free games.

Watching TKA Hudl, they look really impressive. I think this will be a good ball game. I think it will be a close one.  I think it will be a war actually. Kings looks to be very physical so I agree 100% in your assessment. I would love to see the game vs. MTCS. I am going to look and see if I can find on line.

I think MICA and DA will also be much closer than people think IF Hylick is the back he is advertised to be. I don' think DA is that good on D.

Should be a great Friday night this week.

I really think you should delete your post.

Why should this lost be deleted? It is a very valid question. Has Bowers actually out coached anyone in the last 5 years? With the talent pool shifting, now his expertise as a coach is supposed to shine, yet Enswoth is defeated by a Baylor team they should have handled.

Thank you for the clarity, I do enjoy being able to have occasional intelligent conversations on here..... Soooo it is safe to say that there are really only 3 teams capable of winning this division?

I think we know who the top 3 teams are and I think most people have FC and DA as the top 2.  If NCS makes it to the ship, I am telling You, DA doesn't want to see that smash mouth attack again. Go back and look at the NCS rushing attack against the top 4 teams Kim their schedule, we get better in the second half. I have to believe( and hope) Brothers sees this and pounds DA.  That's a big if. We have to take it 1 game at a time

I did catch that DA/NCS game but we probably saw it differently. I saw a DA team that tackled poorly and I have to think that will be somewhat corrected in a rematch. I also saw a QB for DA that missed a few throws and that doesn't happen very often. DA did what they needed to do and if Hewitt had not had his lone fumble of the season late Q4 that game is a 2 score DA victory at NCS. Myers is a freak and will be a load for anyone to handle for sure. NCS was lucky to be in that one at the end. I agree somewhat on the coaching also. Brothers made some horrible calls.

The funny thing is how everyone said we would get killed by DA. Brothers didn' go for it on a 4th and 1 the second series of the ball game after NCS had established it was the more physical team that night.  I think it is also funny how nobody talks about the poor tackling by NCS that game. Hewitt was hit in the backfield the first play of the game. Honestly, DA doesn't bother me at all. I feel great about that game. LOTS of holes in the DA defense by a team that wants to be physical. I am more concerned with FC. They seem more like us. I firmly believe the winner of that game wins state.

I agree on all 1's & 2's making semis but I have DA beating NCS in championship game. That NCS/FCS game is gonna be a fun one. FCS's fantastic front vs NCS's great RB. I think whichever team makes it out of that game will have a tough time slowing the DA offense enough to win though.

Did you catch the DA/NCS game earlier this year?  How will DA stop the NCS attack. Our coach lost that one and the NCS kids know they can beat DA. I am hoping for the bracket playing out chalk. We don't get a chance to play FC during the regular season so I think that will be fun going out on the road. And hey, it SEEMS like DCA is starting to click, I wouldn't be shocked if they give DA all they want.

Glad we can agree. Also I will be honest I know him very well, and what I will say about him is he would rather win a state championship than mr. football. Much like all the other players mentioned I assume. Thats what it is all about. Hope everyone stays healthy.

I have only seen Hudl on the FC kid. What schools are recruiting him?

In the biggest games of the year, Xavier has shined the most. Like other running backs, he is out by the second half.

Below are his stats in those games:

    • BGA (first game back from injury) - 37 carries, 226 yards, 1 touchdown
    • FRA - 22 carries, 220 yards, 3 touchdowns
    • DA - 36 carries, 332 yards, 4 touchdowns
    • TRA (must win game for 2nd seed) - 22 carries, 389 yards, 7 touchdowns

So in those 4 games, 117 carries for 1,167 yards and 15 touchdowns. Very impressive.

Actually 2 TD against BGA. 1 on a 32 yard screen

Friendship Christian has a Running Back that is very deserving! He has put up some unreal numbers much like many others in the loaded RB division. The only difference is he has had little to no production in the 4th quarter this year.... Because they are up so bad. this needs to be taken into consideration when the award is handed out. the numbers are there regardless of the number of snaps. Oh yeah, not to mention he is on very possibly the best team in the division.

Look at the head to head comparison of the top guys!

  10. 1 hour ago, BoomerBoy said:

This is the best football player in the division. If you have not had a chance to watch him I apologize because you are missing out. Great kid and very deserving. He will punish people in the playoffs.

DA, FC and NCS all had backs that say out the 2nd half of games. Myers sat out the second half of 4 games(Tipton, Clarksville Academy, JCA, Zion) and so did Hewitt. Myers also missed the 1st game. To me the kicker is the out of region schedule. You can look at that in a early post on this thread. I put a link in that compared all the top guys. I know we are all fans of our players but this year, I think there is a clear 1 and 2.

  11. Here is the best breakdown of the top skill players in II A.  Myers has more rushing and total yards than Hewitt and only 6 TD behind. Again this is all while missing the 1st game due to injury. Take a look at the link below. Should be some really interesting discussion.

I want to be clear that I think the kid has had a great season and I hope he continues to do it in the playoffs. He deserves praise and recognition.  I am also happy for MJCA and what they've accomplished this year.

This thread was about who should be in the discussion for nomination. I am not saying the kid didn't have a great season but IMO he's not in those top 5. Maybe my opinion is wrong though?

Best of luck to all the kids and teams!!!

no doubt about that! Everyone we are talking about is a player. Nothing wrong with that.  It's funny how we heard Hylick was pulled early and "that's a fact", yet he is getting yards against the 3rd and 4th strings to pad his stats.  Again, the other backs mentioned balled when the spotlight shined brightest, Hylick did not!

  13. 39 minutes ago, TNL said:

Hylick ran for 219 last night against DCA. Hylick did not score but he did run on DCA! The Saints did not play well in the second half. The game was 10-0 at halftime. Hylick is a quality back and has definitely earned it! Three horse race still!

    That's funny hahahaha

  14. 15 minutes ago, CFAfan said:

Lawless? Come on man. Kid gonna be a great college player and is a huge name but play on the field should be what gets guys mentioned here. Hewitt and Meyers. Smith and Norton would be next 2 for me. Lawless not even in top 2 on own team. Watson has more imoact than him IMO.

Mr. Football normally goes to a JR that was nominated last year, so yes Lawless

  15. 1 hour ago, Playerscoach said:

Hylick has impressive stats and a great season so far. After seeing him last night I wouldn't have him in my top 3. DCA's QB again threw the ball extremely well and #53 Blake Johnson was unblockable. Based  on the QB's season, and play against the best teams on the schedule, he is the best in the district  and should be in the discussion with Norton at DA as having the best season overall. In fact, he was the best player on the field in the FCS game per some of their knowledgeable football fans/parents/coaches. #53 Johnson at 250 lbs caught Hylick from behind down field a few times and is very fast for a WR much less a DT.  He's one of the most impressive athletes in the history of DCA. That includes multiple players that won Mr Football, five clinic bowl rosters, SEC/ACC players, and the NFL.

The RBs for MTCS and FCS were very good and caused a ton of problems for the DCA defense. They had much better nights against DCA than Hylick. Not taking anything away from the kid because he's had a great season but he is not on my list of top 5 players I've seen in Div 2A this year. Great season for him regardless of last nights game though.

Couldn't agree more. Mr. Football finalist should be a guy that carries his team in the biggest games of the year. IMO, Hylick hasn't done that.

I have heard great things about the QB from DCA. Looking ahead, if everything holds on the bracket, the semifinals will be great matchup, NCS @ FCA and DCA @ DA. HHoly cow! Lots for ball to be played though.

  16. 16 hours ago, TNL said:

Lets start with this. the MJCA vs FC Game Hylick had his big run against the 1st Team defense in the 2nd quarter of the game when the game was a two score game. If FC played no safeties then that is their fault but I dont thick FC would  ever play no safties when the ball in at the 6yd line going out! But I am sure you know football better than I do! Hylick did not play in the second half of a number of games this year like the other backs (that is a fact) so that is not a valid argument that is being waged. As for the earlier post about not  being able to evaluate talent in a 1's vs 1's  scrimmage then we can disagree. I still can tell you all the talent that was on the field in 2006 in a JPII scrimmage on both sides (most notably Golden Tate among others). I make no issue about being a Hylick supporter and if you use stats then you cant use them in one breath and discard them the next. But I have seen Hewitt and Hylick and Hylick is the tougher runner. Both are great backs but different style backs and Myers is a good one as well. They are great kids who are making their school proud and I am proud for all three of them! All I am saying is that It is a three horse race an I like Darius Hylick #5 from MJCA.  As for the you don't know football comment, if you want to go there then by stats and performance this conversation is reminiscent in some ways of the Dennis Rogan one of 06'!  And before someone says I am saying Hylick is like Rogan I am not. I am saying the conversation is in some ways similar! I would just be happy if MJCA gets the team result Rogan's team did in 06!

Tonight's game 100% cements my thoughts that this is truly a 2 horse race. DCA 30 MIC 0??? Where was Hylick tonight? Hewitt, Myers, Lawless and Smith. That's It, period

  17. 3 hours ago, AlbertPine said:

Wow, I was at the MJCA/FCS game and we saw two completely different games.  Yes, Hylick clicked off the one big run when FCS had no safeties and he beat one LB.  For the rest of the game he maybe got 30 yards against the starting defense.  All of the rest of the yards came against JV and even freshman players because FCS pulled the starting defense after halftime and MJCA played their starters midway through the 4th quarter.  If  you're actually bragging about yards in a 55-14 beatdown ... you just don't know football.

This is the problem with Hylick numbers. You keep a "star" back in with the game clearly out of hand to pad stats, thus "leading the state in rushing most of the year". Hewitt and Myers have each been pulled at half and Myers in the 2nd quarter. Against the top competition, Hewitt and Myers have each shined. This is between those two and nobody else.

  18. 4 hours ago, TNL said:

I still take Hylick over the other two. As for CFAfan you forget that he ran for 176 against Friendship including a 94yd TD in which he outran the entire starting FC defense in the 1st half when the game was still competitive. Hylick has lead the state most weeks in rushing and he has been top 3 most of the season in TD's and points. Hylick was more impressive when Hylick and Hewitt squared off earlier this year. Both are very good backs but different styles of runners. Have not seen the Meyers in person so I can't speak on him just on what his stats say. I think these three are your finalist for Mr. Football this year in DII IA

Hewitt and Myers have each been lulled when the games are out of reach. Hylick has been left in when games are out of hand. MICA and DA have NOT played a regular season game so what happens in a scrimmage has no bearing at at. Coaches don't game plan to stop the best players in a scrimmage. Also, Myers has been in the top 5 in rushing having missed a game. Myers has lead the state most of the year in yards per game.

Here is the most telling stat for me, not only should we look at how these backs did against the top teams in the region, look at the non region schedule. Hewitt and Myers both faced FRA and did well. Myers rushed for 226 against BGA who is a top team in DII AA. Plus the DA NCS game was one of the best of the year. I think people would pay big money to see that one again.

TNL, I know you are for Hylick, but this should be a two horse race. That doesn't take away from the season your guy has had. To be honest, your school does a great job of promoting him as does DA with Hewitt.

    Great discussions

IF I had a vote here is how I would vote in order. I have seen DCA, MJCA, MTCS, TKA, FCS, DA & NCS in person.

Co #1 Da'Joun Hewitt - Davidson Academy. Having monster year on arguably best team in state. Has only played in first half many games due to running clock games and shares reps/backfield with another All State player in his QB. Leading scorer in TN in all classes.

Co #1 Xavier Meyers - NCS. Absolute stud. 300+ yards in loss to DA. Everyone knows he is getting the ball and still can't stop him. Has no QB support like Hewitt does so makes what he does even more impressive.

Darius Hylick - MJCA. Has put up some big #'s and runs well. Kind of a no show vs TKA in a huge game for them with 32 yards.

Stone Norton - Davidson Academy. Top QB in state sharing backfield with Hewitt so they take reps away from one another. Competition has been poor as well for most part so he has not had the pass attempts he saw last year due to running clock games and not playing in 2nd half.

Luke Smith - FCS. Game changer on both sides of the ball. Kid is a monster and has an incredible motor.

Chris Akporoghene - TKA. Super solid lineman for a surprise TKA team that has been solid in passing and running game.

Brant Lawless - NCS. Obviously a tremendous talent and attracts double teams while affecting the game but inconsistent effort to me. He should dominate games and doesn't.

Kemari McGowan - MTCS. Nice year for the Soph. Should be more in the mix the next 2 years.

These are just my opinions and meant for fun, not to insult or create attacks on the T. I'm sure many others are deserving of mentions but this is what I saw and I think I saw the top teams in the state. This has been the year of the RB to say the least and all of these guys are really good. Foutch from FCS is another really good one but injury has slowed him somewhat this season. Best of luck to all nominated and all teams in the playoffs. Should be fun to watch.

I think this is spot on. I think it's a two person race between Hewitt and Myers. NCS has had 3 games where Myers didn't play in the 2nd quarter and is still leading the state in rushing.  I think a valid argument can be made for either back. I think Hewitt has much cleaner running lanes do to the QB on DA but I don't want that to take away from his year.  I am not sure how many people saw the DA/NCS game but Myers faced 9 and 10 man boxes much of the game and still had 300+.

That being said, I think all mentioned are having a tremendous year. Good luck in the playoffs
