I have watched sports in sumner county for years both middle school and high school. There are more kids than you realize who have chosen not to go to Beech high because of the basketball program. If you watch a Pope John Paul basketball or baseball game you will see many kids who grew up playing for sumner county and moved to this school for their athletics. I recently overheard at a middle school basketball game that a couple of thief students were trying to decide what to do about high school after this eight grade year. Their kids did not want to play basketball for Beech as long as the present coach is there. His closed door policy of what is said behind closed doors stays behind closed doors is not as private as he would like to think. He is not a coach who builds his players up. He crushes their self esteem and places a fear in them to not tell or else. Not okay in my book.

I've been watching Beech High School basketball for many years. It seems like they lose a lot of talented players to other schools. With a track record like they seemingly have why do they not put a coach in place that knows the game of basketball and has a passion for it in order to build a good program and keep talented kids at their school? It's known their current coach has never played basketball and from watching their games it is obvious. It is unfair to those kids who do stay because clearly they are not learning or improving. And from what I have seen and heard they put up with a lot of verbal abuse. If you put two and two together maybe that explains the leaving of so many good basketball players over the years to other schools.
