This statistic alone tells me that we have very few coaches that are sharing athletes. There is absolutely no reason that high school kids should not be multi-sport athletes. When the football coach and wrestling coach work together both sports benefit from that relationship.
Having a football coach on your wrestling staff is a tremendous asset. I would say Oakland is a great example of that. I haven't researched this, but off the top of my head I believe they've had full teams (or close to it) in the recent past.

In Greco, I saw where Tommy Brackett got the 3 seed at his weight. I believe Boykin is the 2.

There is a new high school opening in Shelby County, too. Sounds like a similar situation. The article says they'll have a "wrestling arena." I don't think they've hired a coach yet.

Again, not saying it's right, just citing the rationale that makes the most sense as to why the most successful coaches don't win it every year.
Specifically on my side of the state, I think Arlington has won 8 consecutive region titles and Coach Simpson has won coach of the year maybe 3 or 4 times in that run.

Nolansville and Franklin got Region 7 Coaches of the Year. This isn’t the first time Miller has been snubbed.
This is probably the case in a lot of regions. If the coach whose team won the region or finished the highest at the duals was given the award every year, then the same coaches would always win it. Not saying that's right, but it is the reality of the situation. The other coaches in each region probably want to share the love.

Nice job on these! From a West TN guy, I don't think Cavanaugh is with Munford anymore. He didn't wrestle in the post-season last year, and I haven't seen him in their lineup in a while.
Moktani is also listed twice at 132. His name is Wemawamungu Moktani, but everyone calls him Mo Moktani from what I've heard.
I'd also keep an eye on Christian Perez at 145. The Blackhorse at Houston this weekend will give everyone a better idea of where these guys (and others) stand.

I'd definitely like to watch some of these match-up's. Will there be a stream available?

This might be the biggest area for shakeup with realignment, More quality teams/programs moving down such as Soddy Daisy, East Hamilton, Knox Halls, Tullahoma, and Page.

I don't know about them as a team, but Munford (formerly Region 8) dropping will shake things up as well. "Mo" Moktani is going to be a senior next year and he is coming off a very impressive state tournament at 126 lb. Keep an eye on Christian Perez (138) and Jermyah Davis (182) as well. They didn't medal this year, but they're tough kids who I think will have a shot next season.
**Davis wrestled 195 at state, but he was a 182 who bumped up because Zuckerman and Lankford were the favorites to advance**

To clarify, it is Dylan Cockman from Arlington at 160 lbs. His brother Dalton now wrestles up at Simpson College I believe.
Nice job on the rankings this year! Couldn't have been easy putting them together with Covid and so much uncertainty clouding this season. We all appreciate your time and effort.

Could the fact that NJ is moving their season to the Spring have anything to do with it? If NJ ends up having their season I would assume he's returning to Blair. Just speculation on my part though.

Whoever runs Southeast Wrestling has already done 20-21 outlooks for each region. I don't think these account for the reclassifications because they still have Halls, Soddy, Munford, etc. in AAA, but they're a good starting point if you're wondering which schools are returning state qualifiers and medalists.
Overall, I think they're fairly accurate.

I didn't see where anyone had posted results from the Super 32 this weekend. If there's already a thread, feel free to remove this one.
Congrats to everyone who placed and to Cooper Flynn for securing the belt! I didn't include the schools they compete for because I didn't know that info. for all of the athletes, but feel free to add them if you know. Also feel free to add anyone I might've missed.

Houston was a revelation this year under Coach Shirley, who became the ultimate successor to Walt Holmes. He had a very veteran squad this year with five seniors, four of whom who placed at state last week. It was on the strength of this core that the team reached the final 8 at the state duals tournament knocking off rival Arlington in the process. They also finished one spot out of the top ten just this past week. They will be returning only five state qualifiers next season but if Coach Shirley can pull a rabbit out of his hat again it bodes well for the region.
The head coach at Houston is Brad McCarter; Nelson Shirley is their head assistant coach. I will say, though, that their entire coaching staff does a phenomenal job. They're the first team from the region to beat Arlington in a while, so I expect that rivalry to grow in the coming years.
Kudos to all the coaches in Region 8 that give up their time to grow the sport in an area that had previously lacked such enthusiasm for it.
-
Here are the returning medalists from last year. I went ahead and updated the grade they will be in next season.
It's hard to pick at the lighter weights because those guys move around so much. Half the time we don't even know what weight they'll be at until region individuals. That being said, the only wrestlers I'd feel confident picking to win are Coffey at 220, Sacharczyk at 182, and Pietarila at 160. Isbell repeating seems like a safe bet, but you never know who might come up or drop.

So what, exactly, are you insinuating? Not trying to bait you into an argument; I could possibly offer some insight.

Didn’t they give out the invitations to all the champs and wild card selections? I heard there were going to be three teams (AAA, D-II, and a wildcard team). Not sure how accurate that is, but this appears to be a real thing.
