Outside of Liberty has Madison County ever had state tourney caliber teams?
Southside???

Great hire for Madison! Congrats to Coach Hicks. I have a quick question...with all of these great coaches in Madison county, will the talent pool become spread out too much? Will Madison County be able to produce state tourney caliber teams if the talent is spread equally through the city?

Has Bolivar made an announcement yet on who the new coach will be?
-
Does anyone know anything about the new girls coach at Bolivar? I see where he has been an assistant. Is this a good hire for them?
-
Crockett County is now open. I wonder who will go after that job.

Bolivar has named Cameron Crisp head coach
So happy for this man. He deserves it! Yes, big shoes to fill but I believe he can get it done! I wonder why the Jackson Sun hasn't announced it yet? Is it because they are slow, terrible journalists, or it's not a Jackson school? (Therefore it isn't as important)

Who got the Clarksburg job?
-
It looks like USJ got a pretty solid coach. Not sure how he made it from coaching in the Virgin Islands to Jackson lol, but it looks like he has a pretty good resume according to the Jackson Sun.
-
Any word on the open coaching positions in West Tn?

USJ is hunting for a new boys' coach again. Recent hire took another job.
Wow, is USJ that bad of a job? Do they not pay enough? Too much politics? What's the deal?

What about the OC from Adamsville? Hopper? Hoper? Hooper? I've always thought he called a good game from the offensive side. And they have had success.

Quick question on Dancy? From what I'm reading on here, the only reason he was able to win is because he had talent.....Isn't that how every coach wins? Name me a championship team/program(In any sport) that won and didn't have talent? Talent is at the core of winning. Yes you have to have a great coach to manage and maximize that talent. But every championship, winning program has talent. And I know there are a lot of great coaches in this state that are great coaches but because they don't have talent at their schools, they can't win.

You shouldn't be so shocked. TSSAA brings the hammer down hard on physical altercations. We were "involved" in an incident two years ago in the last regular season game... postseason immediately over without possibility of review. After the film was reviewed by TSSAA we were absolved of any and all responsibility for the incident even though some of our players participated in self defense. Although it was good to be exonerated, it took months for TSSAA to come to a conclusion and decide to appropriately (IMO) punish one school and not the other. People thought TSSAA might look the other way because the game was over... games are sanctioned events, and aren't concluded until everyone is off campus.
So.......Kicking a player in the head, like it was the opening kickoff of the super bowl, while he is on the floor helpless is self defense???

I am hearing rumors that Mike Miller might be headed out west. If it is true and he becomes the next head coach at New Mexico, will his son follow? Thoughts?

TSSAA is not shutting anything down. Schools and school systems are controlling what happens. In some cases the coach is controlling it because of losing players to CONTACT TRACING WHICH IS STUPID!!!
I'm not disagreeing with what you said, but that is the case right now. TSSAA was not going to shut down football season. They did shut sports down last spring and I would bet they will shut sports down after football is over with. Let's just watch and see. They will get their Hall of Fame money this week and won't care anymore after that.
-
I am hearing that teams are already starting to cancel and postpone games. I hope for the kids sake that there will be a season, but my gut is telling me no. My prediction is that TSSAA will let football finish up and then shut down the winter sports. We all know that everything revolves around that sport. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Bolivar was clearly the biggest winner and loser from the new classifications. Winner because they will go back to being a powerhouse and overwhelming teams with speed, athleticism and shooting. The loser because they are really gonna lose that revenue with Haywood, Fayette-Ware, Covington etc.
I would rather win in the record column than win at the gate!
-
If the Jackson Sun is correct on the new districts for basketball, looks like Bolivar is going to get back to hanging some District Championship banners on the wall.
-
Yes I forgot about them as well and I agree with you!
-
My thoughts....
1) Dyersburg (Good team coming back with an excellent coach. They will make some noise this year)
2) Obion (Shooters, if they are hot watch out.)
3) South Gibson (Never underestimate their coach and that 1-3-1 defense, could move into 2nd)
4) Milan
4 and 5 could switch, but I know Milan has an excellent coach, so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets them up to third!
5) Crockett
-
Here are my predictions.....
1) Jackson Southside (they will go undefeated in the district and make another appearance at state)
2) Lexington (this one was hard, if Northside doesn't get any "new" players then I think Lexington can finish 2nd. They will have to win at Northside, and that is a hard place to play.)
3) Northside (they will be a solid 3rd place team but could move up to 2nd if Lexington can't put it together).
4) Chester (Got to go with the veteran guards they have here. I think they will make the biggest leap here. But it also depends on their young coach to make this happen.)
5) Mcnairy (They are young this year but will play hard and have some good young talent. This team could surprise some people this year and move into 4th, coached very well)
6) Scotts Hill (They lost a load last year in their best player but this team is always scrappy and physical)
7) Adamsville (This is a toss up with Riverside, they lost their best player last year and a first year coach, could be a rebuild here)
8) Riverside (their coach gets everything he can out of his team, but the highest they could go is 7)

What is going on at Pearl Cohn, why are they looking for a new head coach?
Shot clock
in Boys Basketball
Posted
I do not want to get into a huge debate on pro's and con's of the shot clock. And I have not read every post on here, so forgive me if I repeat something someone else said. But, I am Pro Shot Clock.
Below is just one example of many of why I like the shot clock.
The shot clock would separate good strategic coaches from bad ones. Think about this...Your team is in foul trouble, you are down 2 with 45 seconds left. You do not have to extend your defense to try and steal, possibly giving up an easy layup to the other team. You do not have to foul to stop the clock and possibly lose one of your better players to fouling out, the team probably having the ball in their best free throw shooters hands and adding points to the score board. And if you get the stop then you get the last possession. You just have to play defense for 30-35 seconds(Probably leading to the other team running the shot clock down and taking a bad percentage shot) and if you get a stop, then you have a possession to tie or win the game.
Anyways, just one of many scenarios that could happen or not happen.
