  1. My guess would be that the roster was dwindling because the players could not take Coach Simmons intensity and demand to work hard.  So what does admin do, fire the one guy who will hold them accountable in their life and show them that when things in life get to hard to just quit and if enough of you will quit then we will just fire the coach so you can come back and still play. It will be an absolute embarrassment if they let the kids that quit come back and play after a coaching change, if the reason they quit was because he pushed them to be their best. I have watched Coach Simmons from a distance and I know he is a good coach.  You don't do what he did at USJ and make the second round of the Double A region at Haywood if he wasn't able to coach. To me this sounds like the new culture issue that society is trying to tell these kids that if you don't like something just complain and quit and we will make it easier on you so everyone can get a trophy.

Now, if there are other reasons for his firing that they haven't put in their press release then I will resend the comments above and apologize, but to me this is nothing more than the Administrators not backing their head coach and allowing the kids to get their way because they are too soft and don't want to be pushed.  #rantover

Riley has a relationship with some of these kids already...he also has a state championship with them, in middle school. If you think that he (Riley) isn't an "old school" coach because the kids have good relationships with him, you need to watch him coach. Discipline on and off the floor and maximum effort are required at all times, or you sit. You travel to away games...you dress accordingly and behave like you represent your school, or you sit. I could keep going, but you get the message. How can you be hard on kids and still have their respect? You respect them, and let it be seen that you care about them both on and off the court. Riley can be a gem, if "they" let him coach and support him.

So you had no idea what I was trying to say....I was trying to say that you still have discipline and are hard on the kids, what I was trying to convey is that if you do not have a relationship with them then they won't play for you when you are being hard on them and disciplining them.

  3. I don't have a dog in this fight or a bobcat lol, but the fact of the matter is that these kids are a new generation and require to be coached differently.  I'm not saying easy on them but you do have to coach them differently.  And anyone who coaches knows that.  If you can't build some kind of relationship with them then they will never give you everything they have.  Does a Coach Lott know fundamentals and the X's and O's? Yes I'm sure he does, but if you can't get the kids to play for you then none of that matters. If Coach Riley can build relationships with these kids early on then he will do fine, but people also have to understand that you can't win without talent.  I've read on here that someone thinks the talent in the county is down, if that is the case then no you can't expect him to win a lot of games but you can expect his teams to play hard. You must be able to make an honest evaluation of your program and except what you are.

  4. Hope Stacey gets the chance to do what he can and people leave him alone and let him coach! I hear that is a big problem there.  Interested to see if he can keep kids from going to Adamsville, heard they got a pretty good freshman class, if they will let him coach then the kids will play for him.

  5. I first want to thank everyone on this tread for providing some good discussion and scenarios,  but let me remind you this....There were a million scenarios on how TSSAA was going to split up the classifications and what do they do, they split it up differently than everyone thought because they do what THEY want to do.  Alot of these scenarios make alot of sense but haven't we learned already that TSSAA is going to do what they want to do whether it makes any sense or not???

  6. If Adamsville goes up to 2A and Hardin County drops down to 2A then I think you could have a very exciting district with McNairy, Adamsville, Hardin Co, Chester Co, Bolivar, and Lexington. It would definitely make for some good gates for the home teams! HC and Lexington would be the favorites year in and year out but it would be a pretty competitive district, a lot of history there between all of those schools.

  7. Do not believe it is MCHS fault you violated a rule. Root and Martin's responsibility to cover all bases. They knew the kid played last year at Mcnairy, didn't move residence and they played him. Good look in the mirror will tell you whose fault it is

It's funny that A'ville asked for the Last date of PARTICIPATION and Mcnairy sent the date on an official letter head stating it was the last date of PARTICIPATION!!! This sounds like the McNairy people are just sour towrad Aville because they keep losing their kids to Aville and from what I hear there are more to come next year!

  8. Adamsville had to self report the action because if they didn't it would have cost them more money.  I talked to the people at TSSAA, Adamsville sent in what they were given from McNairy, TSSAA approved the kid to play, Adamsville played him (just like any other school would have done), then McNairy came back and said they did not put on the official letter head that they sent in that the kid played in the spring/summer, so then TSSAA deamed him eneligable.  This all comes from McNairy sending in a false statement at the very beginning.  If they would have put his actual last day of participation then none of this would have happened.

  9. I've been following CoachT for a long time now, first time to actually sign up and comment.  I think TCA does have the potential to make another substate this year, But, it's going to depend if they are all healthy.  When they are all healthy they have both the guards and bigs to compete.  As of right now I believe Middleton is the team to beat in that district, they are all healthy and playing good basketball.  JCS though is definitely a team that could sneak in and ruin the whole tourney.  I think it will be a very interesting couple of days.  My predictions are a Middleton/JCS final unless TCA is healthy, and then I will predict a Middleton/TCA final.  Good Luck to all.
