  1. So, in other sports, there's a 2nd team All District and sometimes even Honorable Mention. Is that the case with Softball or no?
  2. I couldn't have said it better by myself. The girl from Stone was the one I expected, Cumberland's absolutely confounded me! The pitcher they picked didn't even play half the season that I saw. But I did finally see last night that her mom keeps the stat book and takes pictures and is an all around favoritism seeker, so that explains a lot. Their first baseman was the only kid who could hit off of Whites pitcher all season pretty much, from Cumberland I mean. The choices from White were just ok. Warren could've gone a lot of directions because they are just a good team overall. Didn't agree with one or two of Cookevilles choices either - think there was a bit of the same favoritism going on there. The lead off batter from Rhea who plays Centerfield, can't remember her name, she got it and was well deserved. Other than that, it's a load of politics and doesn't hurt anybody but the kids and their efforts. It's no wonder this is a weaker district. Kid's that love it and give their efforts for their TEAM, end up giving up after getting screwed over and over.
  3. Sad game tonight for CCHS. They had White Co beat all the way up to the top of 7. I definitely see what somebody was saying about Cumberlands first baseman though. On a bunt, I saw her check to make sure first base was covered and run to 3rd base to even cover it. She had 2 solid hits off a very good White Co pitcher. Stupid errors cost them that game. White County couldnt hit Cumberland's pitcher who for some reason decided to pitch tonight. Where has she been half the season? White County's defense was pretty good too. Now the game before that one, SMHS and Rhea Co. That was just sad. Rhea didn't even have to play at half speed to beat Stone. That one was painful to watch. Still think Warren has it locked up.
  4. So who does everybody see as the All District team? I like the starting pitcher from Rhea, as well as #51, not sure of her name. From Warren, could be several kids. Cumberland only has one or two that stood out to me, the first baseman, who also pitched quite a bit and maybe the catcher. If the #1 pitcher hadn't spent most of the season in the dugout, I would've said her too. White County has a good pitcher too and MAYBE one more player. Stone, Lord help them. The only All District girl I saw for them was their 3rd baseman. She can it and if a ball is hit to her, she will catch it! I only got to watch Cookeville play one game so I can't really speak on them.
  5. I got to watch some of Cumberland County VS Rhea County tonight. I was right, unfortunately, about the catcher. She tried to throw a girl out at second and the ball ended up in Centerfield and not because 2nd or shortstop didn't catch it. Terrible throw. Cumberland County won but they are going to have step up their hitting if they are going to have a chance in the tournament. Should be fun to watch.
  6. You're right - I agree with the fact that they do have other kids that play defense. That particular night I commented, I was just a spectator and was frustrated for the poor kid because their shortstop and outfielders just had lazy attempts and drops and it was crazy because she was working her butt off. They do have a good catcher, but to say she is the best in the district is a stretch. I've seen them play probably 4 or 5 games and haven't seen her get on base yet, nor have I seen her throw anybody out. Now she can block the ball up and keep it from getting by her but their number one pitcher doesn't throw a lot that miss spots, so that doesn't really come into play unless one of their other pitchers is pitching. Their shortstop is hurting them somewhat because of her lack of effort. I also hugely agree that they have come leaps and bounds from last year and I too think it's largely in part to their coaches. Warren has a good catcher, but you're definitely right about White County's catcher. Whew! Haven't gotten to see Stone or Rhea County so I cant really comment on them. All in all, it's been fun to watch the competition and the shake up this year. Still think Cumberland's first baseman is definitely an all district kid!
  7. If Cumberland Co had all their players healthy, with their new coach, they would be a force. The only defense they still have is their 1st baseman. She can play first base, pitch, cover other bases, she's everywhere she could possibly need to be on defense and she can hit too. Their starting pitcher doesn't have a lot of speed but there isn't another pitcher in the district that can move the ball like her. I'm still predicting the tournament comes down to Warren County - who is really tough on defense and has some smart base runners - and Cumberland County IF their original pitcher is ready to go by then.
  8. Who are the individuals you see at Cumberland and Stone? Just curious if we see the same.
  9. I've actually been to several games and if you're relating this to sportsmanship and you're from Warren County, then give me about 15 minutes to stop laughing. Both teams, baseball and softball, are so rude and UNSPORTSMANLIKE that it's crazy. Their announcer is obviously just trying to keep things light and fun. Every game I've been to, the other team has always been announced also.
  10. Why is it that the announcer at Cumberland County is "childish"? Because he enjoys announcing the games for NO compensation whatsoever??? Maybe it's the same at any other school that has an announcer???
  11. Cumberland County came real close to beating Cookeville and did beat Stone and White County so far. They are improving!
