  1. When your daughter has better stats than other girls on your team that made first team all district, you tell me if she should be pissed or not. One the girls stats wasn't even close to my daughters but she got the nod over mine. Good ole boy stuff if I ever seen it! What do you tell your kid to make her feel better, coach won't tell her!

    Same here!!

  2. Well, as usual the coaches picked girls for all district by favoritism over ability and stats on some picks. That is just sad, if they can't do a better job than that, they need to go coach kids leagues and quit leaving girls off first team that clearly should have been on it. It's clearly not fair to the girls who put the work in but coaches clearly picked some of them only because they liked them without considering stats! Totally sucks!

I couldn't have said it better by myself. The girl from Stone was the one I expected, Cumberland's absolutely confounded me! The pitcher they picked didn't even play half the season that I saw. But I did finally see last night that her mom keeps the stat book and takes pictures and is an all around favoritism seeker, so that explains a lot. Their first baseman was the only kid who could hit off of Whites pitcher all season pretty much, from Cumberland I mean. The choices from White were just ok. Warren could've gone a lot of directions because they are just a good team overall. Didn't agree with one or two of Cookevilles choices either - think there was a bit of the same favoritism going on there. The lead off batter from Rhea who plays Centerfield, can't remember her name, she got it and was well deserved. Other than that, it's a load of politics and doesn't hurt anybody but the kids and their efforts. It's no wonder this is a weaker district. Kid's that love it and give their efforts for their TEAM, end up giving up after getting screwed over and over.

  3. Sad game tonight for CCHS. They had White Co beat all the way up to the top of 7. I definitely see what somebody was saying about Cumberlands first baseman though. On a bunt, I saw her check to make sure first base was covered and run to 3rd base to even cover it. She had 2 solid hits off a very good White Co pitcher. Stupid errors cost them that game. White County couldnt hit Cumberland's pitcher who for some reason decided to pitch tonight. Where has she been half the season? White County's defense was pretty good too.

Now the game before that one, SMHS and Rhea Co. That was just sad. Rhea didn't even have to play at half speed to beat Stone. That one was painful to watch.

Still think Warren has it locked up.

  4. So who does everybody see as the All District team?

I like the starting pitcher from Rhea, as well as #51, not sure of her name. From Warren, could be several kids. Cumberland only has one or two that stood out to me, the first baseman, who also pitched quite a bit and maybe the catcher. If the #1 pitcher hadn't spent most of the season in the dugout, I would've said her too. White County has a good pitcher too and MAYBE one more player. Stone, Lord help them. The only All District girl I saw for them was their 3rd baseman. She can it and if a ball is hit to her, she will catch it! I only got to watch Cookeville play one game so I can't really speak on them.

  5. Absolutely agree with you, momofoneplayer, so many levels!

I may be incorrect on the Cumberland catcher, but the games I have seen her play, she has done amazing, but have not seen her play every game, only half of their games.

And, I completely agee on the first baseman being an ALL DISTRICT player, she certainly fits the bill on that. She is a VERY GOOD player who deserved that honor!!!!!

I also have seen Cookevilles catcher and she is one of the best as well in the district, based on watching her team play DeKalb, Warren, and Cumberland.

Now, I drove almost two hours yesterday to watch Rhea play White, not sure why I put myself into the position to be completely disgusted, but I love to watch kids from the travel ball team my kid plays on.

I love to watch Rhea County Leah Price coach - She is one of the BEST at having her kids prepared for their games. She got off to a slow start, and they are lacking in a power pitcher, but her players know how to run bases, know how to play fundamental softball in the infield and outfield.

Rhea County, of course, beat White Co in a double header and one of the reasons for the losses were, White County had a couple of kids who DO NOT LISTEN to their HEAD COACH while running the bases. And, now, mind you White County Head Coach is Michael Dodgen and he is smart, quick thinking, will fight for his kids, as shown with a HORRIFIC CALL by the field umpire who was pathetic, by the way.

I am totally DISGUSTED seeing one of our kids for White County pitch her heart out and lose the games to STUPID ERRORS or players who can not move two steps to get to a ball. I am totally disgusted seeing this kid be subjected to only throwing FASTBALL after FASTBALL after FASTBALL - the kid has four moving pitches for goodness sake and who ever it is calling her pitches is as stupid as they come. He needs to see her play in a tournament where she throws drops, curves, rises and change ups because she is a great pitcher brought down by total ignorance of the game. Yes, I call it like I see it and my opinion is: if you don't know the game, DON'T COACH and DON'T TRY TO CALL PITCHES, because every coach I talked to is laughing, knowing they will be inside or outside fastballs and they are licking their chops. ANYBODY CAN HIT A FASTBALL!!!!!! Believe me this man does not know the game.

Oh, he did call five or six change ups, but fastball inside and fastball outside.

I know, I read his pitches all night, sitting across from him and by the second inning of the first game, I was calling what he was going to call for the rest of the game, missing only on five pitches through out the night.

White County is FAR BETTER with Michael Dodgen, SO MUCH BETTER ON DEFENSE, Better Hitting the Ball, Better Hustle, Better ATTITUDE, BETTER OVERALL than they have been in the last four years. But still they have three players with HORRIBLE ATTITUDES who would not ever play on our teams. The CATCHER, just like you said, "WHEW" does not deserve to play that position - she dropped 11 pitches last night, she left home open with no one to cover, for no reason, can not FRAME A PITCH and I checked her laziness - it took her 33 seconds to walk from the pitchers circle to finally getting in her position at catcher before getting the pitches to get to the pitcher. YES, 33 seconds. SHE WALKED THAT SLOW TO HER POSITION. She can hit but a catcher, she isn't. I have watched their first baseman catch and she is by far the BEST CATCHER on the TEAM and possibly in the DISTRICT, but she doesn't even get to catch. GO FIGURE!

I got to watch some of Cumberland County VS Rhea County tonight. I was right, unfortunately, about the catcher. She tried to throw a girl out at second and the ball ended up in Centerfield and not because 2nd or shortstop didn't catch it. Terrible throw. Cumberland County won but they are going to have step up their hitting if they are going to have a chance in the tournament. Should be fun to watch.

  6. Well, momofoneplayer, you are right about one thing, Cumberlands first base is a good player and is strong at the plate.  But, I dare say, she is not the only defense Cumberland has.  Cumberland is a far better team than they were last year and I think the biggest reason is the coaches.  Not taking away from first base, she is very good, but to say she is everything is a stretch.  If a player is everything to their team, then everybody on the team needs to sit down and let that player play every position with no help and then I think we would all see, that one player is not the whole team.

As for Cumberlands pitcher, she is a decent little pitcher.  She does have good movement, but slow slow slow.  She is injured a lot and that takes from the whole team.

Cumberland has been good this season, to beat Cookeville 13-3, they had to do something right and it took the whole team.

And, as for Cumberland and White game - there was a lot of errors on both sides, quiet a few hits, but a lot of grit from this Michael Dodgen coached team, which is what he is known for.  He has brought so much to his team in the area of good coaching, smart coaching, good base running, good fundamentals, which is something White County has not been known for in the last few years.

Cumberland has probably the BEST CATCHER in this District or probably any District around.  If only White Co had a catcher half as good as her, I'm sure their pitcher would be happy.  Cumberland catcher is smart, will out hustle anyone, is a beast at the plate, throws the ball on a dime and like I said the best around anywhere.  Whites catcher just sits back on her heels, is lazy, is not a team player and has an attitude about the size of the universe, so, in other words, pathetic.

Overall, the game last night was not a great game because of the errors, but an exciting game none the less.

You're right - I agree with the fact that they do have other kids that play defense. That particular night I commented, I was just a spectator and was frustrated for the poor kid because their shortstop and outfielders just had lazy attempts and drops and it was crazy because she was working her butt off. They do have a good catcher, but to say she is the best in the district is a stretch. I've seen them play probably 4 or 5 games and haven't seen her get on base yet, nor have I seen her throw anybody out. Now she can block the ball up and keep it from getting by her but their number one pitcher doesn't throw a lot that miss spots, so that doesn't really come into play unless one of their other pitchers is pitching. Their shortstop is hurting them somewhat because of her lack of effort. I also hugely agree that they have come leaps and bounds from last year and I too think it's largely in part to their coaches.

Warren has a good catcher, but you're definitely right about White County's catcher. Whew! Haven't gotten to see Stone or Rhea County so I cant really comment on them.

All in all, it's been fun to watch the competition and the shake up this year. Still think Cumberland's first baseman is definitely an all district kid!

  7. If Cumberland Co had all their players healthy, with their new coach, they would be a force. The only defense they still have is their 1st baseman. She can play first base, pitch, cover other bases, she's everywhere she could possibly need to be on defense and she can hit too. Their starting pitcher doesn't have a lot of speed but there isn't another pitcher in the district that can move the ball like her. I'm still predicting the tournament comes down to Warren County - who is really tough on defense and has some smart base runners - and Cumberland County IF their original pitcher is ready to go by then.

  8. I've actually been to several games and if you're relating this to sportsmanship and you're from Warren County, then give me about 15 minutes to stop laughing. Both teams, baseball and softball, are so rude and UNSPORTSMANLIKE that it's crazy. Their announcer is obviously just trying to keep things light and fun. Every game I've been to, the other team has always been announced also.

  9. Why is it that the announcer at Cumberland County is "childish"? Because he enjoys announcing the games for NO compensation whatsoever??? Maybe it's the same at any other school that has an announcer???
