So far this year Coker is 22 of 30 for 575 yds and 6 TD's.  As long as teams continue to stack the box and play the receivers man to man I would think we will continue to throw it.  Hopefully Hughes will be more at full speed next week.  I think he had 3 carries and 1 catch last night.

I was very impressed with the QB last week against Blackman. I knew they were a better team than last weeks score indicated. Most of that had to do with the opponent. The Commandos are a solid football team.

I don't think I would sleep on Blackman either...

This. After seeing all three teams play I think Blackman is a couple touchdowns better than both Oakland and Maryville. Maryville wasn't at full strength with the QB sidelined so that can certainly change things. Long season to go.

  3. Not sure who the video was of but i hear the QB from Davidson Academy is the one transferring to Blackman. This should be official Monday if what i hear is correct.

I saw it on your fb feed yesterday not the closed group site.

Blackman's offense would be absolutely loaded if this happens. Mitchell can flat out fly and could be used at a position that suits him much better. Then the addition of Otey some on offense with Knox, Teague, and Burks could mean Blackman finally get's a gold ball. Again sometimes things on paper don't always translate to the field. It's very difficult not to be excited about it though.

  4. My point. It had NOTHING to do with play calling. That was two juggernauts on display last night. That game could have ended differently. That game was just so physical. Wrinkles, shminckles ... adding plays doesn't win that game.

Yea it was incredibly physical no doubt. And I am talking about Oaklands scheme as a whole. Whitehaven has a great defense every year and I don't know if that scheme will ever beat them. Nothing surprised Whitehaven last night and they were way to physical and powerful to keep running 2 belly every first down for a gain of 1. I don't think it was play calling I just believe that is Oaklands system that has worked against inferior opponents. Again Oakland was just outmanned and I get that. I know most people think the private schools are the best in the state but the 2 teams that played last night were the cream of the crop in 2016 in my opinion. I hate that Oakland lost but I was not disappointed that I went and sat in the rain for 3 hours. That was a game I will never forget and I have a feeling those 2 teams are gonna play each other again in the state very soon. Whitehaven has surpassed everyone as the top dog in 6a now even Maryville in my opinion. I hope the Blackman Blaze can throw their hate in the ring at some point.

  5. I'm reading all of these people stating negatively about Oakland's play calling and game planning.

This is very funny to me. Go back to the very beginning of this thread and see if that was an issue that was brought up before the game. Wait. I'll save you the trouble. It was NEVER an issue. As a matter of fact. The Oakland offense was scoring so many points, and the defense was so stout that, that wasn't even considered to be an issue. NOW, all of a sudden, Oakland needs some "offensive wrinkles"?

You guys are amazing. Quite frankly, it's extremely difficult to execute plays when the opposing team's defense is better then anything you have faced all year. You may get a shot or two, but you had better make them count because you aren't going to get many of them.

Maybe, it's not the need for "wrinkles" in the offense as to why Oakland lost.

    Whatever.

Man I'm not taking anything away from you guys. You're defense is very elite and you beat what I think is the best Ruco county team I've ever seen fair and square. I think any team after a loss has to look at why they lost and make sure it doesn't happen again. I think opening the offense up would have helped Oakland and think they need to in the coming years. When you get to the championship you're always gonna play a good defense and you have to adapt. Whitehaven did and Oakland didn't. So understand you guys are the best team in the state and maybe the best defense I've ever seen. I was not taking credit away from your team. Congrats to y'all

  6. Here to eat my crow! I was wrong about this game in several ways. Congrats to the Whitehaven fans and players. You guys are certainly the real deal. I think your size and strength eventually starting wearing on Oaklands defense and you really had your way late in the game. I do wonder if Oakland will add some offensive wrinkles in the offseason. It seems to me they only really run about 8 plays.

  7. I look forward to serving it to ya

And you very well may. I've been wrong a few times in my life that's for certain lol. Hoping for a barn burner type of game. It's hard for a Blackman guy to root for Oakland but, have to recognize greatness when I see it though. But hey, maybe there are two great teams in 6A this year.

  8. Well we all seen what TD Blackmon did against this same Oakland team and it was very impressive, the fact he doesn't have any SEC offers could be solely based off measurements, we know how these scouts are. Having said that the kid from WH could very well be better, I don't know but look forward to seeing him play!

#6 from Oakland may be better than both. Kids a stud.

  9. I think Whitehaven will be the Bigger and stronger team...Oakland looks small on film..I think this game will come down to special teams and who has a better passing game...Oakland has to block #4 for whitehaven and get someone on #22 if they are to the ball on Offense...I do think #27 for Maryville is a much better player than #22 for whitehaven...

Oakland is huge. That film must be deceiving.

  10. I would agree... Perkinswas the first of many stumbling blocks Smyrna was hit with

Absolutely. That team would have been very tough without the injuries they had. I don't root for them but also kinda hate that their season was somewhat derailed. I think Perkins was the best RB that has ever played for them. Bryson like for sure.

  11. This is so true.

While Oakland has the 6-headed monster at RB, Master Teague and Casey Perkins(Smyrna) were without a doubt the best RBs in Region 2. Teague missed 2.5 games and Perkins was lost midway through the season.

I'm a Blackman guy and Teague is the man but Perkins was poised for a big time breakout year. Great player and I hate he didn't get to finish out his senior year.

  12. Whitehaven will be much more athletic than Maryville. Maryville passed the ball very well against Oakland. Should have stayed with that more. Not the deep passes but the short passes. Turning point in the game was getting greedy with the double pass. That was turning point of game. Oakland is very predictable on offense. Certain offensive formation and certain play. Hate to say it but Whitehaven will beat Oakland.

We must have watched a different game. I saw a QB with very little time to throw the ball and WR's getting hit big everytime the ball was in the air. Also 3 interceptions which is more than Maryville had thrown In all of their other games combined. If Whitehaven comes out throwing the ball that is exactly what Oakland wants.

  13. Maryville will be back. It will be sooner rather than later. They'll make a run next year with Hopkins, Watson, Brown, Markham, Cobb, etc. ALL being back.

Maryville is now 9-1 all time against Rutherford County

Maryville is now 2-1 the last 3 years against Oakland

They have absolutely nothing to be ashamed about.

Not that it matters but Smyrna beat Maryville in 95 and 96. I just always see that a Ruco team hasn't beaten Maryville before. They have just not in 6A.
  14. Well it's gameday! This has been the matchup people have waited all year to see and I honestly have no idea who has the advantage tonight. I have not seen Maryville play this year but I know they will be very disciplined, smart, and ready to go like always. I've seen Oakland play several times and the one thing that worries me is lack of competition throughout this season. This was a down year for 7AAA and the Pats were several touchdowns better than anyone on their schedule. With that being said they beat every opponent the way they were expected to. Oakland will need to play better offensively than they did last week to win this game in my opinion. Maryville will find a way to put some points on the board and the Patriots will need to answer. On the other side, Maryville will have to keep the ball away from #7. He's extremely gifted and can score at any time the ball is in his hands. You must know his location on the field at all times on both sides of the ball. Also if #6 plays tonight, Maryville will have to find a way to disrupt his pass rush. He's an Sec caliber LB with great length and speed. I expect this one to be a chess match for sure and possibly a game we talk about for a long time. Safe Travels to all Maryville fans and players. It's gonna be a barn burner.

  15. OK baick two footbawl....Eye'm heerin thait this Okelund teem iz tha best teem inn Ruco histree....Thawts frum our Ruco frendz hoo aint tha best spellurs inn tha werld.... :popcorneater:

Oakland is very good but I'm not sure about the best ever. Oakland is not going to absolutely wow anyone on the offensive side of the ball. To me they are a good offensive team with a stellar defense. I think Smyrna 08 and some Rankin Riverdale teams would have a strong opinion on this Oakland team being the best Ruco team ever. With that being said I do think they are very very good and Maryville will have to play great to beat them. They can score a lot of different ways in all three facets of the game.
