It would have been interesting to see. I feel a bit differently but I could be wrong.   I LC was much better against the run than the pass defensively as evidenced by their game with Westview. Although they were very good against both. Greenback was able to do what they did because of their style of play. I don’t feel y’all could have scored 23 on them like greenback did. Crockett Co a 4 qrt finalist only put up 21 on them. It may have been close with both teams running the ball the clock would have kept moving. But ultimately I feel it would have been a 28-7 or 35-14 type game. Just my two cents. No disrespect intended.

Should of, could of or would of....GB and SP were two different type teams.
SP was good at shutting down the run and proved it against some good teams! As GB showed, our passing D was a little suspect at times!

Just wasn’t meant to be...wasn’t the year we all wanted but it was a good year regardless.
LC was definitely the team to beat and they showed it. As far as a matchup with SP, who knows what would of happened. Gotta play to find out!

NJ always wanted the game at their place.  They didn't want to do a home and away.  There is no way to keep them from welching if you play at their place 1st.  Jasper thumped them the 1st 2 years and they ran away even harder.  NJ seemed to be stronger in those earlier days as well and they wanted no part of those 90s Jasper teams nor the Pirate teams.  Most of the valley teams play anyway.  NJ wasn't an SVC team so it isn't has historical.  That said, Maybe Jasper can play Whitwell again now that the 3 or 4 year window of Whitwell wins is closed.

Not to mention the last time a scrimmage was in the works, it had to be at their place, concessions sold, refs used and no coaches on the field oh..and pay admission to watch! Uh, that’s a game not a scrimmage!
Maybe one day a game can be worked out between these two but I’ll have to say SP will come out victorious. IMO, there’s just a difference in attitude that gets SP the win.

That opinion comes from watching and listening to my stepsons referring to the difference in football compared to SP and at NJ.

  3. I’ve only been on coach T since 2007 or 2008! Most knew me by a different name then but I must say, one thing that hasn’t changed is Old Pirates ability to get under some people’s skin and stay there. He knows we have had our back and forth many times over and yes I never had the last word!
We didn’t agree on everything but somethings we saw eye to eye on. Being back in SP I’ve learned it’s better to have him on your side than against you! With that said, with age comes wisdom....if I find myself in a difference of opinion with anyone, instead of continuing on trying to prove my point usually I’ll just say “ you have your opinion and I have mine!” I refuse to let anyone live freely in my head that I must respond to every comment they make either to me or someone else.
The “ This site went soft. I’m outta here.” title is misleading! The certain few that keep the bickering going aren’t soft at all! It’s quite hilarious reading some of the digs and comebacks!
To the ones who wear their feelings on sleeves, this probably isn’t the site for you but it’s been that way since I first started posting.
Remember, no one is forcing anyone to read, comment or post an response! You do so under your own will!
So continue on my fellow posters, I have to have something to keep me entertained when insomnia kicks in! :thumb:

I wonder if Jasper hires Coach Pruitt this time around if his son Jeremy wasn't the head coach at UT?  No disrespect to Dale but some folks might wonder.

I remember Old Pirate bringing up Dale's name as a hire for Jasper several years back but that name got shot down fairly quickly.

I’d say that had to be a favored option to come with his hiring. Dale has the enthusiasm to get kids playing that would normally be walking the track on Friday nights. He’s a proven winning coach! I can remember the yr he left Jasper that some of his old players visited him at his new job. He left an incredible impact on them.
Jasper had a rough next couple yrs till TB took over. One good year and one mediocre then he was out! RR two and out then Mathis has a run then leaves!
Dales return has sparked excitement but I see it taking a couple yrs to have Jasper competing with teams they should be competing with.

  5. I believe Whitwell wants a coach with a proven record of turning teams around QUICK! Problem is, like Jaspers new coach, if the lack of talent is an issue it’s not going to be a quick turnaround. Two possible three yrs unless either school gets an influx of transfers! (Which has happened at a few schools)!
Jasper had 1 good year after Pruit left the last time and TB was eventually hired as coach! He had 1 solid year going all the way to eventually Alcoa and losing but had a mediocre year after that! Fired him, hired RR he had a couple good years then out, Mathis had a run then left. Now Pruit is back, Jasper is excited and looking for big things to happen!

Whitwell had just come off a State Championship run and won. That team comes along once in every 30 yrs for them. No one expected them to repeat with the players they lost! No coach could have repeated that with those players last year. That’s not knocking the boys either, the talent just wasn’t there.
It’s my understanding that the players had a peaceful protest asking the Principal to reverse her decision because they wanted to play for the recently fired coach. They had a lot of respect and wanted to play for him. IMO, back room conversation and politics played a roll in that dismal but what do I know! By the article they already had a man in mind but his legal record and not qualified to teach had a lot to do with his undoing.
You need stability to build a program and that’s one thing Whitwell does not have. Feel sorry for the young men but heads up and play till the whistle blows!

Naw, this is just waaayyyy to much fun after all the garbage spewed last year by those two. I never mentioned either of them until they came calling then I have and will continue to respond. You call it irritation, I call it a reckoning. It’s amazing how many of the same things they are saying to justify the SP transfers that were said just a few months ago about the GB kids but then they were all about calling good honest folks cheaters and liars. I don’t remember coacht showing up then though. A lot of folks down your way were just like them jumping up and down about how you never or rarely get transfers in and now this lol. We all knew SP has always benefited from transfers, just like virtually every school does from time to time. Nothing wrong with it. Folks just shouldn’t be ready to run one program through the wringer when it is and has been happening in their own house. You need to take a less biased look at the situation friend.

“Take a less biased look at the situation” exactly what situation do I need to look at?
You have not seen me post anything about illegal transfers at any time. All I’ve ever said is “as long as the TSSAA says it’s legal then play ball!” I took my fair share of the recruiting comments when I brought my stepson to SP! Even had a Vice Principal show pictures off my gfs Facebook page, had a private investigator look into my new address and a TSSAA official visit my house! So when it comes to transfers, I could honestly care less! May have teased a few guys that I spoke to in GB about it but they knew I was joking!
As far as SP or any other school benefiting from transfers, of course it happens! I just don’t think it happens at SP as much as some would presume. Someone was quoted SP had “6” last year but I failed to see them. May have had 6 total from 2017 to now. One young man had played then took a yr or so off and returned but he always played at SP.  The year my stepson came I believe him and maybe one more came. The following yr my other step son followed his brother to SP but he was entering the 8th grade. Guess you can’t consider him a transfer anymore seeing as he will be a junior this coming season.
If the TSSAA looks at all the paperwork, does their due diligence to obtain the facts and rules it’s legal then what can be said?
Again, TRANSFERS DO NOT GUARANTEE WINS! If that was the case my stepson would have two rings right now but instead, he has none along with two losses to GB!
Line up the best eleven and that’s how the winner will be decided. So keep harping along with others if you find it amusing or hilarious. As for me, I’ll keep reading and waiting until High School Football Season starts!

It’s not all about wins and losses.  It’s about respect maybe.  I don’t know.  I’m just as confused about the reason why as you are.  I’m just throwing out suggestions and ideas.  Ultimately though, it’s about the kids.  Maybe that’s been our problem at SP over the last 10 years.  Maybe we have gotten away from it being more about the kids and their futures instead of about wins and losses.  Just keeping it real as Tyrone Biggums always said.

With the coaches we have/had it was about getting the best out of our young men! Wins/losses of course matter but at the end of the day the young men were the priority.

As for him transferring to NJ, I have my personal opinions about that. Heard a lot of muttering in the GB game. Nevertheless, wish him the best...he is  a very talented player and will help NJ. (Well, all that he can anyway!)

SP has the talent and experience again this year to succeed. Just putting it altogether and getting it done is the question. Some of the players last year that saw playing time and big game experience will need to step up and help where needed!

We not as good at covering it up as you guys. Can y’all give us some lessons??

Now there is a let’s say untruthful statement! I’ve yet to see the sky’s part and every position that needed help a transfer suddenly appeared!
Not knocking them by any means, if it’s legal it’s legal. TSSAA didn’t see a problem so line them up and play!
I’d take you more seriously if you’d stop allowing OP and Roy rent free space in your head!

  9. So, reading through 15 pages I’ve come to a solid conclusion.
Bpm, crow, Jimbob72 and headhunter apparently are fascinated with Old Pirate and Roy. It’s obvious that those two have free space rented in your minds!
SP thrives having a target on their back! Being mentioned just about every year to be a top team in the East is a honor. Apparently some have what seems to be a slight jealousy problem or just like to spew ignorance. Either way, SP will play SP football.
Everyone knows SP is a running team. With the return of our starting QB go ahead and stack that box, it’s possible you’ll get surprised! As usual, I see SP running until some team stops it! If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!
Calling out coach Griders coaching ability just shows you know absolutely nothing. Took a backup QB and still played GB right to the end! Breaks didn’t go our way, it happens and we lost. I can take a loss with the same dignity I take a win with.

Orchestration, recruiting and fake addresses...like I’ve said, I had a personal visit from a TSSAA official come to my house after I brought my stepson to SP. Lodge nor any other business ever contacted me about recruitment! You can choose to play that back and forth with OP and Roy all you like, it just proves they have irritated you to the point of insanity! Stop allowing free room in your heads!

As far as the up coming season, to soon to tell. I’ll have that discussion after the first two or three games are in the books!
Good luck to all and may everyone’s season be injury free and exciting!

PS: Nice to see that SP is already in the minds of upcoming opponents! Just sit back and enjoy until SP is your next Friday night game!

Being punished for recruiting and not being good at hiding it is two different things. Haven’t you listened to Ole Butthurt cry about the Whitwell kid and TSSAA’s lack of oversight?  Everyone sees what SP is doing. Maybe the tssaa will get it right this time.

The Whitwell subject is pretty much null now. My opinion, if you know the information surrounding the complaints and research the TSSAA bylaws you see the reason for argument but that’s done and over with. 3 High Schools in one county have State Championships in football. That’s impressive to me so is what it is!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, great programs attract players! I don’t know the reason these last transfers came but it’s really none of my business. Just glad they did as would any school would be! I know from first hand experience SP crosses every T and dots every I before any transfer is allowed to participate in any sport! Had a TSSAA official visit my house when my stepson transferred. SP is very good when it comes to all that. Believe me or not, doesn’t bother me either way.
I’ll leave the below picture so that maybe some will understand why SP program attracts student athletes!

I agree on the best 11. As for the non starter thing, you made my point. That’s the level football is at in Knox and Blount county.

But to say there beating teams with non starters is like I said a stretch. Those players want playing time immediately and that’s why they transfer to a school that will allow them to start.
Here’s the question though, hypothetical speaking...your boy has started at his position for two yrs, how are you or him going to feel about losing that spot to a transfer?
Before I get crucified, yes my stepson was a transfer at SP but his first year he wasn’t playing every down. The next yr he earned his spot.

Maybe I missed something but who are you referring to as “retard”? I’m just catching up but if you are talking about a kid you may want to reevaluate your mind set!
