Yates was the one man show and if doesn’t get hurt this conversation doesn’t exist! Sorry but that’s the truth if Yates is healthy y’all are 5-1 and looking to the playoffs! FACT

If “ifs” counted, we’d all be undefeated. One player hid the incompetencies of the coach, according to your unproven theory. That doesn’t change the topic at hand. We just lost to a team that was 0-5 against cupcakes. We could care less about that hypothetical argument. We had the talent to win this game. We gave up 500 rushing yards to GREENFIELD. Please stop. The verdict is out. On top of all this, the players hate playing for him, and he’s lost the locker room. What more is there to say?

Weakley County administration doesn't want any county football team to be relevant. I've said that for years. I also have no problem playing till the whistle fades a little. But you can play hard nose defense and be very aggressive without the after BS. It's a sad state of affairs right now. It's funny we are bashing previous coaches for teaching this behavior but we don't blame any of the coaches before the guys that started turning our program around. When we we going 1-19 it was just as bad when we were homecoming queens as it is now. Funny cause the coaches we like to mention "Crazy" and his brother are both coaching teams that are very respected in there states and classifications. One is even with Gaddis at Oak Ridge having a pretty good year. Guess what I'm saying is we can blame the coaches all we want but I would think parents can also influence these kids on the field. Bottom line is the coach is ultimately responsible but we all can play a part.

Him and Gaddis are personally close, so that door is always open. That doesn’t mean squat. The fact is McNairy ran him off after he threw another childish tantrum and got ejected the first game, and then he couldn’t even make games competitive. His brother is currently on the hot seat and hoping to not have his third conservative losing season. Your ole “boys” aren’t the be all, end all of this program. Scott Hewett has done more for that program than anybody, but gets no credit. We had 2 bad years after Rogers left, because Knott was probably the worst coach in the state at the time with a team full of Freshmen, and then the next year there was nothing left.

Stop being a gatekeeper. Ysogatekeeper. All you do is gatekeep for your buds and discredit all things Dresden, and kiss up to all other towns. It’s cringeworthy for everybody. Just stop. Good grief.

I hate to hear what all is going on over there. One of my good buddies from college has a cousin on that team, and I occasionally see him. I knew Saturday night when we went out and ate and he was telling me all the stuff that goes on during and after practice that this man is not right for the job... he has taken the love of football out of the young man, and for any hs coach especially football to do that is pretty sad.

Yes to all of this. Well said, Goldenpride.

That all seems to be a bit dramatic to me sir. It’s high school football at the 1A level and you were hit by the injury bug on your big time player. Granted there have been personal fouls that shouldn’t happen but sir that’s been happening for years in Dresden. Heck we (Huntingdon) played there one year and your assistant coach cussed one our kids and was flipping us off as we walked off the field. Your rants and petitions do nothing but drive the stake deeper into the kids that go out every Friday night and put it on the line so the YOU can get on here and talk about them. This ain’t your first losing season and won’t be your last.

And that very coach got to coach one more game (from the press box), and he instantly wasn’t considered for the head coaching job the next season, despite influential people trying to pull strings. Keep in mind his brother was the coach. Yeah, we gladly waved goodbye to him. I’m still embarrassed that happened, and we LITERALLY had some of the Dresden power circle getting on here and trying to make excuses for him. You remain humble during the thrill of victory and in the agony of defeat. Cussing kids and coaches that out-coached you every is truly pathetic, and revealing  your shortcomings to somebody that beat you. It was pure envy and jealousy. That was sickening.

He did go 9-1 last year.......

And that ultimately led to what? Losing to a gimme team in the playoffs. He chokes when he has talent. When he has decent talent, he gives up 500 rushing yards to Greenfield. Last year is irrelevant to what is happening NOW. This is a discussion about the present.

  6. 20 minutes ago, Tide21 said:

It just more blatant now. I think a lot of it is frustration but it’s up to the coaches to stop it. The thumbs up to the side line after a late hit says to me that the coaches may not be outright encouraging it but are turning a blind eye

Yup, it’s the coach’s job to put an end to that. That’s why none of his players respect him.

  7. This is absolutely unforgivable. We shouldn’t have let Estes get back on the bus in Greenfield after he gave up 500 rushing yards to THEM. Greenfield? Are you kidding? Tonight was an extra cherry on top. He’s already dug his grave and put the nails in his own coffin. All the players from the state championship team will tell you Estes was a micro manager back then that rode Rang’s coattails and was way too incompetent to even be considered a head coach. What did we expect? We could’ve had Dubriel, an actual alumnus! Union City started that dynasty over there the year he got there. He could’ve took Rang’s math job too. We didn’t want to make a competent hire. That’s been going on for years with the administration that’s responsible for the hiring process. You made a lazy hire and ran your agenda. Estes should step down at this point. Don’t drag this out. Those kids have to be miserable.

I haven't been on the Dresden Lions board in a while, but anytime I hear Dresden fans complaining about "dirty" play...even I have to call them out on it. Historically speaking (within the last decade), Dresden was historically undisciplined (until Coach Rang's second year) and the bad attitudes costs a lot of games. I've watched the video clip and yes, I believe it was an intentional step...but with that being said, I lived through unsportsmanlike conduct penalties almost weekly, multiple personal fouls weekly, helmets getting ripped off (almost weekly)..hence the old saying, what goes around comes around. You show me a team's penalties every week and I'll show you where their problems are...and I venture to say that Dresden averages 5 personal fouls a game this year based off box score and friends in the area. Total undisciplined play by a total undisciplined team. The decline started after 2 years ago...it's only going to get worse. Hope the younger Yates heals up, he's a gifted athlete and a game changer in Single A. Great win for West Carroll.

You haven’t watched Dresden football for very long then. The teams of the early 2010s were way more disciplined than any of Rang’s teams. Having a whole boat load of talent and winning games is not an indication of discipline. Those teams were extremely high in penalties, mostly in part due to how extremely physical they were. That said, Rang is the best overall coach Dresden has ever had. He had the best offensive playcalling we’ve ever had, the best understanding of defense, had a terrific offseason program and coached at a WAY higher level than any other coach we’ve ever had. He was the whole package. Conservative playcalling and the inability to adjust and be more versatile killed those teams in the early 2010s. We really didn’t have a solid program with those teams in the mid 2000s, or else we’d have 3 or 4 more gold balls at the school. It’s the same song and dance with some of those teams in the 80s. We just never lived up to our potential.

I respect Hevy's right to his opinion (and everyone else's) ...he get's revved up sometimes, but you can tell he's a good guy with his heart in the right place. That doesn't change the fact that this forum is not the place to pass judgement on a minor. His coaches know the mindset of the player involved better than anyone else, and I would hope that any "judgement" of his intent would be made and properly addressed by them.

I’m glad you’re respecting his right, but empirical evidence via video footage is not passing judgement. It’s the truth, fact, hard evidence, etc.

I am Good on my judgement day so no need to concern yourself with me. Thank you for your concern though. Buddy

I do not necessarily disagree (nor agree) with what's been posted from either viewpoint, and the only thing that makes me uncomfortable is the insensitivity toward a minor, who was merely playing a game. If it was intentional, it was clearly a "heat of the moment" type thing and not a conscious effort that was preplanned. All the guff in the world won't change the injury, but could cause a potentially innocent kid some serious issues with guilt and/or depression. I doubt if there's one of us adults on here that at some point has not ever been accused of something that we had no part of, and that's a bad feeling, especially if we realize that circumstances made us appear guilty. I watched the clip. If there had been no injury, there would be no discussion, as I have seen far worse with little mention of it 5 minutes afterward. All I'm saying is that I don't feel good about the moderators allowing a kid to be roasted for an incident that's not clearly with an intent to cause permanent damage to another, because that's been inferred. I'm a grown man...if you disagree with that, let me have it, I will willingly disagree with you in a peaceful manner...the player thankfully not named doesn't deserve to be subjected to it.

I completely understand, but I’m just supporting Hevy’s prerogative to absolutely not have any place for career ending tactics. He believes that kid did in fact do that, so he should set the precedent by speaking out against it. His response, as well as the injured player’s response, are both warranted, IMO.

I’d rather try my hardest to be on the side of truth and get mocked by the negative crowd, as opposed to just going along to get along. That’s the easy way out. We both have to answer some day for what we stand up for, and I sincerely hope you know what happens to deceived people on that day. Don’t be so cocksure you’re on the “right” side because you along with the opinion of “the crowd,” buddy.

Thanks to Hevy’s other account for showing me the irony.

Do you care to prove that slandering accusation, or do you just write off people that don’t have the same perception as you? I PROMISE this is not “Hevy,” and I’m sure you could talk to the moderators about this. Keep talking and revealing everything.

Is a chop block not capable of hurting someone? I should have chose that word differently, hurt is harse, maybe roughed up would have been better. But bottom line is the team knows who key players are, we are kidding ourselves if they don't get extra contact. Dirty or not it happens. Talking with several kids,  crazy s-it happens in a football game. Usually on both teams. Cant change what happens I say shut this thread down. Before Zebra and Revy have a Battle Royale on some back road. What is the phrase many coaches use "controlled sense of rage", sometimes it's hard for kids to do.

Just for the record I've done stuff like that also. One time I stepped on an opponents golf ball while he wasn't looking. I did repent when I sobered up.

Fixed sporting events also goes on, but that doesn’t make it right. Nobody is saying it does or doesn’t happen. That’s not the point.

The video must lie because I see a kid inadvertently stepping on another to get back to his huddle on a hustle play.

A fact of what we do see here on the T is a self proclaimed man of honor dragging a 16 year old through the mud.

    Very nice.

Can you point me to your claim that he announced himself as a man of honor? That’s nothing more than conjecture. Why does the age of the person involved matter? If Hevy does in fact know this kid pulled an Albert Haynesworth, then he should hold his feet to the fire. Otherwise, you’re rewarding blantant cheap shots. If somebody truly cares about the kid, and if he really cheated, help him by holding him accountable. These targeted cheap shots that are becoming common have no place in football. Play a team, line up and beat them the real way. If you have to deliberately cheap shot a player to get him out of the game, then you really weren’t good enough to win without cheating. Cheaters never prosper.

  17. 7 hours ago, tradertwo said:

I say shut it down too. What's done is done, and what's been said can't be retracted. Deliberate or accidental makes little difference, the Dresden kid is handling it, and the WC player doesn't need to read some of this junk.

Shutting down stuff that you disagree with or stuff that makes you uncomfortable is censorship. If that kid did in fact try to cheap shot a player and hurt him for the rest of the game, then he should read these things.

It is time to move on. Intentional or not, I'm sure the player that everyone is blasting feels terrible. Anyone that saw Yates Facebook post about his knee knows he is handling it with 100% more class than the adults on the T about his injury. We could all learn something from this young man. Instead of bashing young men & football programs, lets pray for him & all the HS athletes competing in every HS sport. You know the risk of injury when you play a sport & you never know when it could be your son or daughter or loved one.

So if somebody intentionally hurt another player (which I’m not saying he did), you can’t speak out against it? Speaking out against deliberate, career-ending tactics is handling it without class? That’s the most inconsistent thing I’ve ever read. Both responses are fine. However, being a bystander and saying nothing or making excuses for the perpetrator are the wrong responses.

  19. 8 hours ago, Waker said:

You need the calm down. You are completely out of control. Please remember these are 15-18 kids playing a sport and as much as you want it to be about you, it isn’t. Before you say it’s not, your cute little story about you boxing, proves it. It’s a shame the young man got hurt, but you still trying to prove your point 5 days later is starting to sound like a sore loser. No one else from Dresden is doing this.

The hilarious irony is that he was making a point about OTHER people by telling the boxing story, but you completely leaped over it and made a false assumption about hevy. He’s saying he willing stepped away from a sport he loves to avoid foul tactics by a coach. Those are the moral perameters he has for himself, so that’s why he’s speaking out against what he saw. The story was about dirty tactics, not himself. His message says what it says. You’re only responsible for what you write, not the false interpretations that can come with it. That was a very revealing response.

  20. If Winn, Yates, Thomas, and a starting offensive/defensive lineman were all out for the season in a 1 week period, you would be batting more than an eye.... you'd be heartbroken. Those positions are what we lost. UC had a total of 18 players (yes I said 18) with some sort of broken bone/torn ligaments/slipped disk issue during the season. We comment on the injuries but players and coaches say "next man up". Our young players played hard, Kennedy (fullback) was a warrior. We played hard, we competed, we limited fumbles, but Dresden better team. That's how it is sometimes.

No one is 100% at this point in the year. That's part of the game. I'm talking about players that were out. Bumpus is the only one that would've made a difference, and he played the first game. Scribner played last Friday. You're using a false equivalency by saying "What if you lost Dresser, Yates, Thomas, etc.?" We were the better team this year by a lot, period. This group has beat UC since they started playing the game. Again, the first game we had two players out to your three. People try to slide around that. The coach did say this was the "real" UC in an interview. That sounded like they were ready, but we still are hearing the same thing from last time. We're a spread team and played in that weather, so please just give the kids credit for once. They won.

  21. I wanna congratulate UC also for one heck of a run in 1a! Hate yalls season had to be finished off full of injuries, and no disrespect to Dresden by saying that, y'all are obviously the best team over there. UC will go to 2a next year and never miss a beat! Best of luck to y'all

I'd agree on other years, but they're not the better team this year. In the first game, they had three injuries to our two. They had their starting defense. In this game, Scribner was back. The UC coach even said this would be the "real" UC. This game would've been worse than the last time if it wasn't for the weather in the first half. I just don't get this injury card. We've dominated them twice, as the scores show. Thankfully, some of their fans like Swo even admitted we were just physically better. Dresden just never gets credit. If Dresden players are hurt, no one bats an eye.

  22. For sure should be Rice and Winn.  No offense to the other finalist but Dresser Winn is the best 1A player in the state of Tennessee

Congratulations to all young men selected as finalists.

However, it is almost laughable that Winn was not selected today. I never thought this award held entirely too much merit because of the obivious bias, but come on lol

    Its actually a farce.

    Where is Dresser Winn's name??????

Guess where he missed a couple of games hurt him. I thought for sure that he would be in top 2. That is surprising

For sure should be Rice and Winn.  No offense to the other finalist but Dresser Winn is the best 1A player in the state of Tennessee

He was the winner last year and a semifinalist this year.  Outstanding young man and player.

Congratulations to all young men selected as finalists.

However, it is almost laughable that Winn was not selected today. I never thought this award held entirely too much merit because of the obivious bias, but come on lol

Appreciate all the kind words regarding Winn. Had a feeling the Gleason game that was called only minutes into the game would come back to hurt our players stats along with Dresser being out for a game & not playing in many games in the 2nd half. Dresser is a humble kid & much more concerned about team awards than individual awards. He was fortunate enough to win last year & I think he'll be playing more focused than ever (if that's possible). If anything this is just another distraction that he & his teammates don't have the deal with. His main goal is to bring a gold ball back to Dresden with his teammates. Congrats to the other deserving finalists.

Wow, I honestly thought he wouldn't win after missing a few games, but I'll admit I never even considered this. I even considered Kanye Roberts sneaking in due to the fact he's had a great year, and East and Middle TN players (especially East TN) have more area sports writers on the selection committee. That said, this is such a head scratcher. Only one kid from West TN has won it twice, but then again, you don't see many Juniors winning the award. My thought was after missing a few games and playing just around 20 quarters of football, they had a reason to give someone else the spotlight. Having said that, how do you not nominate a kid who had the highest completion percentage in the state by a country mile, has the highest passer rating by an enormous amount in the state, threw only 27 incompletions, had the highest amount of passing production per attempt in the state, had the most rushing yards per carry in the state (the kid had over 500 rushing yards on less than 35 stinking carries), is on the number one team in the state, on an offense that hasn't been held to under 40 points all year, has a running back with 1,300 rushing yards (regular season) and splits the amount of touches with him and even has the highest punt average in the state? I'm just talking about 1A. I'm not saying the two kids who got nominated shouldn't have been. I don't want to take this moment away from them. Congratulations to all nominees! I'm just confused why they didn't go with a player simply because he had very few attempts, right? That seems to be the only thing that could've hurt him here. He won last year and is still the most efficient and productive passer and rusher per attempt in the state. What in the world else could the kid have done? Everyone predicted their finalists, and everyone had Dresser as a finalist at the very least. To much surprise, the selection committee went the other way. This makes me wonder if they discuss things before voting. I know everyone keeps bringing up multiple pre-season interviews where he said he could care less about the award and wanted a teammate to win it this year and was only focused on a state title. That's great and really impressive for a high school kid to think that way, but I like players to get their fair shake after all the hard work pays off. This could be a positive for the team, though. Any distraction can hurt you at this point in the year.
