  1. I really do not see East Hickman being better than Stewart Co. I agree with Creek Wood at 1, obviously. They don't really lose anything and were the best in the league last year. I also think Camden has to be better than Hickman County and Lewis County, maybe even Waverly.

    1. Creek Wood, best almost every year

    2. Stewart County, good size, well coached

    3. East Hickman, lost a couple of key players

    4. Waverly, athletic, have to be better

    5. Camden, we have got to be getting better

    6. Hickman County, returning alot from what I hear

    7. Lewis County, were way overrated last year, lost everything

    8. Fairview, they struggled in a bad way last year

  2. Looks like Page went into Lewis Co. and dominated the game.

Lewis County fell short tonight with an upsetting loss. Someone needs to get better refs for a regional game, I think their glasses were fogged up the whole game. I really enjoyed watching the game since I haven't been able to attend many since I work at night. Not sure if #13 is a senior or not but she Played a great game from beginning to end. I'm sure if anyone gets all region from Lewis County it will be her. Tough loss Lady Panthers!

I thought it might happen. The Lewis County team I watched play Creek Wood in the district championship looked really, really bad. Turnovers, little defense and little rebounding. They looked like a selfish group against Creek Wood, and I was hoping to get a serious, professional assessment about the game (TheStuff)???? I can't handle those that want to blame the officials for a double-digit loss. TheStuff was obviously from LC, and I appreciated his/her updates. Guess with them out you wont see them any more, lol.

I made comments about #13 earlier in the year. i got to see her play against Waverly and Camden in the regular season, and both district tournament games. She was the most well rounded player on the team in the games, if not on the floor. Did she get injured at some point? I was shocked she didn't make all district for the season.

Did I read somewhere that LC was breaking a school record for wins? Did they? Or were they expecting to play further into the regional tournament?

  3. All quiet in this thread. My predictions:

Creek Wood wins at home. Game could be close because Marshall County has decent size and athleticism. Creek Wood can shoot the ball very well, and plays solid defense. If they can turn Marshall County over they could win by 20.

If Lewis County plays like they did in the district championship game they lose, plain and simple. I have not thought they were as good as their record nor good enough to be ranked in the top ten. Their strength of schedule was weak. I do like them playing at home, but last Saturday they looked very bad against Creek Wood. I am going to be cautious and say LC wins by 10 at best, but would not be surprised to see them lose at home.

East Hickman travelling to Giles County has a chance. Giles County has a good record, but looking at their scores they may not be playing extremely well. East Hickman has a couple of players that can really affect a game if they stay out of foul trouble. If there is a chance for 11AA to get a second win in the regionals and it isnt Lewis County, I could see East winning this game.

CPA beats Stewart County, and it could get bad. Would not be the least bit surprised to see CPA win by 30. Traditionally they are strong, and their play over the last couple of weeks shows they are ready for the tournament.

  4. I thought the boys tournament was extremely entertaining. All 4 games in 2 days were fun to watch, especially when the Lions won it all. I thought Vick and Womack were great, but the entire team played extremely well. I think the Camden team could win a couple in the regionals.

  5. I will preface this post by saying it is hard to defend a loss when there are so many turnovers and so many missed shots at and around the rim, and the inability to rebound on either end consistently. But.......

How can you not have your best officials in your area calling the championship game? Having coached at some level in this region for the last 15 years, having been in attendance as an assistant coach, a head coach, a parent, doing radio, and just as a fan of basketball, I would have expected to see a threesome of officials that I would consider to be some of the best in the area. Especially on a night when 11AA were the only games in town.

I saw calls on both ends that affected each team in the first half that were inconsistent to say the least. One coach questioned a call in the first half and one official to exception to it, got into an animated discussion while he was shutting the coach down. From that point on there was absolutely no discussion with him. When the second half started the inconsistency increased. Heavy contact, no whistle either way. Light to no contact, whistle out of nowhere. Missed out of bounds calls (which can be defended because deflections normally) were missed bad both directions. Players in possession stepping out of bounds right in front of the trail official, no call. At one point, foul differential was 12-2 in a game that was very physical. The worst part, however, may have been a technical assessed to the bench for something that came from the crowd, which could have been reversed, had an official been willing to have a discussion.

My argument is not sour grapes (note preface), but an issue I have with not having your absolute BEST threesome on the floor for games that feature the BEST pair in the district. Congratulations to the CreekWood Lady RedHawks on a hard fought win that was a much closer game than the score indicated. LadyRedhawks played good defense, rebounded well, and knocked down free throws down the stretch, which is what good teams do.

I wish all 4 teams from 11AA good luck next Friday, as 12AA teams will definitely put up a fight in each matchup.

Not going to disagree much with this post. Glad you aren't putting blame on officials for the loss, because LC definitely didn't deserve to win that game. If I were the East Hickman girls I would be sick, because if LC plays that bad the night before East would have been playing Creek Wood for the Championship.

I watched all games on Friday and Saturday night, and the officiating was inconsistent in more games than consistent. The boys championship did seem to be better, but the girls was tough to watch, both ways.

Creek Wood girls took advantage of a terrible game from LC, and were money at the free throw stripe. LC looked like they didn't belong in the Championship game.

Not sure what happened on the technical, but the official that T'd up the bench reacted really quick. He seemed to have a terrible attitude from the tip, just his body language and his interactions with coaches from the first quarter on.

  6. I thought the game itself was a pretty fun game to watch. Waverly is a good team, and athletic, and the Lions took care of business winning by 15.

But, the events following the game were nuts. Sad it happened right after the game, sad it happened at all. Just an absolute crazy scene after the game. Not to defend the coach, but emotions are high after a game. In my experiences, I always told parents before the season if you have questions or concerns about anything, please refrain from doing it immediately after a game. I preferred having a day or two pass for emotions to settle, and always request the AD or an administrator be present. I do feel the coach would have been better off if he had just walked away as best he could. But, it is easy to give an opinion on here this morning, and hindsight is 20/20.

Camden Lions move on, all is right in the world, lol.

It also looked like the rest of the games were really good games, with Creek Wood and Hickman County going into overtime, and Fairview beating Lewis County on FTs. Competitve second round games are always fun

  7. Those are interesting predictions and I agree with them except the Creekwood game.  I thought that game was at Creekwood...aren't they the higher seed or am I missing something?

My apologies to all. I had the common site on my mind and not the satellite locations. I guess I had already been thinking about the girls moving to HCHS for the rest of the bracket and didn't think about it.

I still think the Creek Wood and Hickman County game could be close, but home court will be an asset.

  8. Put little faith in that Insell brand publication. You will notice the no brainer picks (Upperman, McMinn Central, Southside, Westview). National Exposure is linked to the Nike AAU teams/camps and promotes those athletes intensely. They rely on input from media and records. The report doesn't list a single team from District 12AA, and I am certain Giles Co., Page, and CPA have an argument with SOS's of 80, 85, and 67 compared to LC's of 101. No doubt I would love to see another trip to The 'Boro, but I put more faith in predictions from people who have seen the teams play than NEB or outlets of the sort.

Lewis County has as good a chance as Creekwood or East Hickman to win the tournament, but it all comes down to playing better team basketball and execution.

    This guy gets it.

The NEB is less credible than Murphy Fair in football. At least Murphy Fair does "interviews" with coaches and has coaches submit information for his publications. He also does make an effort to see some actual games. The thing with NEB, from my experience, is they want to push the Nike Flight girls and promote them first and foremost. I completely understand that, but wish they put a little more research into their prognostications.

I am assuming you are an LC fan, but you have more realistic posts about your team. I have been coaching basketball (girls and boys) for over two decades, have probably seen over 1,000 basketball games, and I try to be realistic in expectations or observations. I am a die hard Camden Lion and Lady Lion fan, have been all my life, but I try to remain realistic. If I ever lose sight of reality, please tell me.

The second round games went about like I thought they would. Creek Wood, Lewis County, East Hickman, and Stewart County all winning. Third round matchups with top four seeds as expected.

  9. I think there might be a couple of interesting first round games, after Waverly beat East Hickman by 17 last night. Waverly could make some noise, if they didnt have Camden first round.

I think Camden beats Waverly by about 15. Not just because I am a Lion fan, but I think this tournament is Camden's to lose. I think Fairview beats Lewis County, as they will have everyone ready to play, having a couple out when they played twice last week. It is hard to beat the same team 3 times in a season, and this will be their 3rd matchup in a week. Creek Wood and Hickman County could be a tight one. Hickman County is at home, and both other games were decided by 5 or less. I lean to Hickman County at home. Montgomery Central and Stewart County could be close, they played tight during the season. I take MC.

Camden should beat Fairview, and another close game with Hickman and Montgomery Central.

    My picks

    1) Camden

    2) Hickman County

    3) Fairview

    4) Montgomery Central

  10. I could see either Creek Wood or East Hickman winning the district tournament. I would think Lewis County third and Stewart County fourth.

Creek Wood, East Hickman, and Lewis County should cruise through the first round. Stewart County split the season with Waverly, but I really believe Stewart County is the better team. Waverly has played better in the second half of the season, and I saw them play once and they were in the game with Lewis County.

I really wish I felt better about Camden. They won 4 of their last 6 and played a really good game against Waverly, but got absolutely destroyed by Huntingdon in the last game, and it was not a pretty game to watch. I think they did get better as the season went on, but they will probably lose by 30 or more at East Hickman.

Creek Wood should get Stewart County in the semi's, and Lewis County should be against East Hickman. Creek Wood had close games with Stewart County, but they have only lost 1 game since Christmas, so give CW the nod. East Hickman is a matchup problem for Lewis County. I went to the LC/Fairview game to see the boys game, and the LC/Fairview girls game was one of the worst girls games I have EVER watched. There had to be over 40 turnovers total in the game. LC handled Fairview with ease on Tuesday, and then played 1 or 2 on 5 against Fairview on Thursday. No way THAT team wins the district tournament playing like that, no way they should be in the Top 10.

    My picks:

    1) Creek Wood

    2) East Hickman

    3) Lewis County

    4) Stewart County

With 3 very strong teams in 12AA, 11AA might be lucky to win one.

  11. I will never blame a kid for transferring if they feel like they are not part of a "team". To your point of her not making the LC 1000 point club, maybe she is a team player and not an "I" player. Getting 1000 points in your career is an excellent accomplishment, but if you start or continue your high school basketball career thinking about scoring 1,000 pts. your selfish. And to the remark of "not smart of Summertown running those play". They had 3 games that week when they played last, I am sure his focus was winning those 2 district games and winning the district title with those wins. Not saying the outcome would have been any different, but I doubt changing what they do for 1 game would have been best for the team. Congrats Lewis County, y'all ar a AA team that beat a A team, and that was the only ranked team y'all played, thus the #100 ranked strength of schedule. Summertown played in 13 games against ranked teams, contributing to their #3 strength of schedule ranking. Lewis County did win both matchups, Summertown was 3-2 against AA teams, 1 of those wins was against yalls district champion Creek Wood. You also showed your class, or lack of, when you make comments like "she quit", "not very smart by the coach", "speaking from ignorance" and skinny chested kids. I am sure her record will fall, records are meant to be broken. The real world doesn't judge people by what "club" your were in, but the kind of person you are. I don't even know who you are or who your kid is, I can only go by your post. Hopefully your kid joins or already has joined the team 1000 point club, but apparently she wasn't worthy of a face guard, Summertown has face guarded people when it was warranted. Good Luck with the rest of the season.

Saw LC play 3 times this year, probably will see one more, and there is alot of truth in this post.

I dont see how you can fault a coach for scheming a game to limit opportunities for a good shooter to shoot. If they won the game, the scheme worked.

  12. Will any of these teams have a chance of winning a game in Region?

If East Hickman or Creek Wood win the district I could see them winning the first region game against the 4 seed from the other district.

  13. Lady Lions played a tight one last night at Waverly. Really thought they might extend their win streak to 5. Now, on to the district tournament. Looks like the girls will travel to East Hickman, and we didn't play very well there at all a few weeks ago.

Thanks TheStuff for the regular updates on the district. I think you would be safe to go ahead and say LC beats Fairview Thursday.

One thing for certain, starting Monday everyone has the same record, and crazy things can happen when it is tournament time. Good luck to all girls team, especially the Lady Lions.

  14.

    As of 2/6:

    1) CreekWood (13-2)

    2) Lewis County (12-2)

    3) East Hickman (12-3)

    4) Stewart County (10-6)

    5) Waverly (9-6)

    6) Camden (5-10)

    7) Montgomery Central (3-12)

    8) Fairview (2-12)

    9) Hickman County (1-14)

    Final week's schedule:

    CreekWood v. East Hickman (TUE)

Lewis County v. Fairview (TUE) and @ Fairview (THU)

    East Hickman @ CreekWood (TUE)

Stewart County v. 10AAA Clarksville NW

    Waverly v. Camden (TUE)

Camden @ Waverly (TUE) and @ 13A Huntingdon (THU)

Montgomery Central @ Hickman County (TUE) and @ 10A Houston County (THU)

Fairview @ Lewis County (TUE) and v. Lewis County (THU)

Hickman County v. Montgomery Central (TUE)

Seeding is still murky because several things could play out this week as Stewart County is the only team that has finished district play. It will be much clearer after Tuesday night, since Lewis/Fairview will be the lone district game remaining.

Barring Fairview (2-12) upsetting Lewis County, Lewis and CreekWood are the only 2 teams with a shot at the #1.

Lewis County and CreekWood goes to a flip IF both win this week, East Hickman is #3.

If Lewis County wins both v. Fairview and Creekwood loses to East Hickman, Lewis is #1, East #2, and Creekwood #3.

IF Waverly loses to Camden, Stewart County is #4 and Waverly is #5.

IF Waverly wins it comes to a coin flip with Stewart County for the #4/#5, as the teams split and have the same records against the top 3 teams.

Camden is #6 regardless of outcomes this week.

IF Montgomery Central wins and Fairview loses 1 or both games, Montgomery Central is #7.

IF Montgomery Central loses and Fairview wins 1 or both, Fairview is #7 and Montgomery Central #8.

IF Hickman County wins and Fairview loses both, Hickman County is #8 an Fairview #9 due to records v. higher seeds.

I will post updated seeding following Tuesday night games. Please feel free to correct any mistakes.

Thanks for this update. Very thorough.

Great to see that the Lady Lions have put together a 4 game win streak, hope they keep it up with Waverly and keep the momentum going into the district tournament. Too bad they waited so late to start playing consistent, they could have been in the top 4 in my opinion.

After seeing how things have played out I think the top 3 are better than the bottom 6, but I am not sure who I would put as the best in the district. Before Christmas, probably Lewis County, since then, probably East Hickman.

  15. Will be great to have Vick back for the tournament. I felt like the Lions fought hard for the win Friday night, and I expect another physical game tonight with Hickman County. When Camden is shooting well, they are a fun team to watch, but they definitely need Vick on the floor for tournament.

  16. It was great to see Camden win Friday night against Montgomery Central, it was a great game for those girls. Two wins last week, both close games, and they really should win their third in a row tonight against Hickman and fourth in a row with Big Sandy on Thursday. Playing better basketball as we near the end of the season.

  17. Glad Camden took care of business last night. I will get to see them Friday and expect them to handle Montgomery Central.

I went to the Waverly-LC game and it was a very fun game to watch. LC was down about 20 in the 4th and cam back to make it a one possession game late. Very strange ending as the game was delayed for about a half hour with only 20 seconds left in the 4th. I cant remember a game ending like it did, with clock problems and an official on the court with a cell phone keeping time. Waverly held on to win.

  18. Made it to the Waverly-LC game late in the first quarter expecting the game to be over. Hard for me to believe that LC was a Top 10 team in AA. They turned the ball over against a mediocre, at best, defense. Not sure if it was just an off night for them or not, but they did not play very well, and there record appeared to be more a reflection of their weak schedule. #13 was the best player on the floor for them last night, and her teammates stopped getting her the ball when she was open. I thought Waverly was extremely scrappy, and #22 was everywhere for them. The game was close for most of the second half. I hope the Camden-Stewart Co game Friday is a close one to watch.

  19. Creek Wood beats Lewis County at home, after blowing a lead at Lewis County. Is Creek Wood the best team in the district? LC has the better record, but their strength of schedule is in the 100's in AA, CW has a strength of schedule in the 60's. I have seen Creek Wood play but not Lewis County, and it seems like CW plays hard, shoots pretty well, and plays very good team basketball. I hope to see LC play in Waverly this week if my schedule allows.
