Super proud of the Dupill brothers out of Greeneville. Colin just won Escape the Rock beating the number 13 and 10 kid in the country along the way.

his brother Carson dropped a match to the number 2 kid in the country but beat the number 12 and is wrestling for 3rd. Great job guys!!!

Man those two have had a heck of a season so far. Been following and I’m very impressed with what they have been able to do with the schedule they have. The four horseman at Greenville looking strong going into the post season!

  2. On Wednesdays and Fridays Heritage high school will be hosting Open mat sessions from 5-7 leading into Super 32. These practices will consist of mostly a good warm up followed by a quick drill and then strait into live situations, short goes, and matches. Looking to use these days to get kids from all around Tennessee together for some good hard wrestling. If interested contact me I will leave my number at the bottom or you may also drop in. We will charge a $10 drop in fee for anybody not a member of our Outlaw wrestling club. Cost is to help pay coaches that will be coming in and giving there time and to help pay for kids who are maybe not fortunate to get the opportunity to travel with us.

you no what   at the end of the day who cares   chittumum who is 18 ysrs old won and has gotten to wrestle for mccallie  blair and now cleveland Won  i actually feel for that kid and the pressures that are being put on him by adults way more than him winning a match or a dual event. He is a great kid that works his #### off but at the end of the day don't make it out like he is a kid. he has been held back twice and is a grown man but not taking anything away from him he is a stud but dont make him out to be a "hard working transfer who is just trying to compete" he will be at a division 1 school soon and he deserves that for his hard work but i question the adults around him that have paraded him to be this "sophmore" stud that everyone knows should be a senior.

Who the F*** is this guy? Calm down keyboard warrior. Trying to respectfully run your mouth? Get that crap out of here. Kid does work his butt off and deserves every bit of success he is seeing. Get to know the family and kid be for you degrade them on a public forum on the choices they make.

I have been told that McCallie will be at the Beast.  It's difficult for both Tennessee teams and wrestlers to receive a high national ranking if they don't travel to compete against the best teams in the country.  We all know that a Top 10 team is not going to travel south to compete in a Tennessee tournament.  I know of a tournament director that was going to pay for hotel rooms if he could get 2 top 10 teams at his tournament and he had zero takers.  The response was why do we want to travel 750+ miles when we can travel 100 miles and compete against the best teams in the country.

On track it shows McCallie, Cleveland, and Greenville sending guys but I figured Baylor would be coming since TN private schools wouldn’t be able to compete at preps this year.

All credibility lost ha. Awful nice but that’s not true. You know deep down this guy isn’t a coach . I bet you wouldn’t say that out loud in front of people you know.

    crazyness

I would 100% I don’t say one thing online and then another to other people’s faces.  I respect anyone who is willing to try to help. I might not like some coaches  or some things that some coaches do  but I will always respect everyone that has helped me get to the point I’m at and Scott (I don’t care how small of a part) has definitely been there for me and helped anytime I ask. We have also had our arguments but just because we haven’t always seen eye to eye doesn’t mean I will be disrespectful and talk down to him. Might not be a coach to you but to some he is.

Corner them maybe, you're not a coach.

Wow that’s rude don’t you think? Don’t get me wrong I don’t always see eye to eye with Scott but I have put together and COACHED teams with him. You might not know him as a coach because he was traveling and coaching out of state something you should maybe think about trying.

Correct, the only split was for the dual championship (small school & large school) with one division for the individual championship.

Can anyone guess the only small school dual champion to win the individual tournament in the same year?

If your talking about when the individual  state was D1 and D2 none have I don’t think. My senior year at pigeon forge (2011) we finished 4th in the D1 traditional.  Which besides Notre Dame taking 3rd in 2006 is the highest any small school has finished when it was combined at least to my knowledge. We didn’t win the dual tournament that year either Chat central beat us in the finals and then finished 20th in traditional.

They haven't competed at the AAA level. They've had a few who could have won AAA titles if they weren't already in another classification, but CAK didn't have a team before the split in '98.

Who do you think would have won AAA titles? I think they only have 2 state champs ever.

Yeah I think Hamm is going to have to throw out some harder trivia.

And I think the answer to CBG's question is not many have had the opportunity.  You would probably need to look for any that have gone from small school to DII and vice versa.

Is Notre Dame the only team to compete in all 3?

Here are the National tournaments that matter for HS.

    1. UWW Juniors and Cadets(U16) - by far the hardest of all the tournaments that holds the most respect with D1 coaches.  It’s for a freaking spot on the world team  and it has half the weights of normal tourneys.

    2. Fargo - some will argue that Super32 is 2nd but getting a stop sign at Fargo is one of biggest accomplishments in HS wrestling. Stop Signs matter to D1 coaches big time.

    3. Super 32 is the most respected Folkstyle Tourney even though Ironman is harder. Make it to 2nd day as Noah did or place like Coffey did and your stock skyrockets among D1 coaches.

    4. Ironman - the toughest Folkstyle tourney there is, especially at the bigger weights.  TN kids almost never wrestle at this in season tourney which is a shame as you can get major exposure here.

That’s the big 4, you place at these tourneys and you are getting money to go high level D1.

    5. National Prep - yes, it’s only Prep schools but this tourney hold a huge amount of respect among college coaches.  The Ivys and pseudo ivys recruit almost exclusively from this tourney. This tourney placement gets you seeded at Super32, NHSCA and a bunch of other tourneys.

    6. Beast of the East - last year was first year there were some TN kids at this tourney and this year there going to be a ton.  You will see this tournament listed in D1 college bio’s if one of their kids placed here. Hopefully, we will get some TN AA’s this year.

    7. NHSCA- This is the only grade level tourney that gets kids a ton of respect. Colleges recruit this tourney hard.

    8. Flonationals - there are tougher tourneys than this but because it’s a Flo’s event it gets way over hyped and gets kids noticed.  Last year it fell the weekend before UWW Juniors so the junior division was weak but the cadets was freaking loaded.

    9. Doc Buchanan- it’s in California and the last 2 years the brackets have been sick.  This one gets a lot of notice since there a ton of west coast kids that go that don’t go to other tourneys so colleges watch this one hard.

    10. Powerade - this one has dropped off the past couple of years but the name still hold weight.  All the big PA kids go to Powerade and it’s there warm up for states

Brother Ed is there anything I’m missing and is this the order you would rank these?  I was on the fence about where to put Powerade and should this list expand to 12 and add Cheesehead and Reno?

I would have to agree with you on your list Scott. To say UWW, Fargo, and Ironman aren't the three top tournaments in the country tells me that a person doesn't watch a lot of top level wrestling. Super 32 is really high up there but with the lack of talent in the upper weights it drops down a few notches

On a selfish note I wish that people in the State of Tennessee could watch Cooper Flynn (McDonogh School) and Cody Chittum (Blair Academy) compete in high school.  That would make the kids that had to compete against them so much better.

You can watch them. Just because they wrestle at schools out of the state doesn't mean you cant watch them online. Every tournament both hit threw the year is on Flo or Track. Both will be competing at high level tournaments threw out there high school seasons and I'm sure they will represent Tennessee very well.

That would be correct.  The only multiple time "Fargo" placers in the Junior division for TN are Tommy Brackett, Matt Keller, and Cooper Flynn.

     - Bracket was actually a 3x placer in Jr Greco (2016, 2017, 2018)

     - Keller was a 2x placer in JR freestyle (2000 & 2002).

     - Flynn is the first ever TN wrestler to place in both styles at the JR level in the same year... he is actually the first ever to place in both styles at all while representing TN.

Thats awesome!!! Forgot about Tommy in 2018 that is the only one not on the website. Great group for Coop to join with Bracket and Keller. Hope to see a lot more Tennessee names joining this list over the next few years. Especially with the group of cadets that are moving up next year

  13. I was looking threw past results and really hate to state something if its not facts. I believe Cooper Flynn is the first wrestler from Tennessee to double up at Fargo in the Junior division. I think Matt Keller and Tommy Brackett both have 2 Junior All American honors (Tommy with both of his in Greco and Keller with both of his in freestyle) but from what I can find Cooper is the first to get 2 in one year.

Ed, heres the deal.. yes our junior teams have done sightly better the last 2 seasons but why?

Right now,  TN currently has 7 wrestlers wrestling in D1.   8 if we count Oliver as a TN wrestler.

This year’s graduating class of seniors has 7 TN wrestlers that signed with D1 programs. That is a huge jump in the number of D1 wrestlers that TN inormally produces each year.  This year’s Junior class is even better and looks to have about 10 D1 wrestlers and then it really starts to explode with  this year’s sophomore and freshman classes as they looks to have about 15 to 20 D1 wrestlers for each class.

Tn wrestling is exploding and we are starting to become very competitive at the national level.  Go back and watch some of the matches from National Prep, Willie wouldn’t stop gushing about TN Wreslting.

Now why is TN wrestling exploding right now and jumping levels and why did our USA Junior team do slightly better the past 2 years?

The answer to that goes back a little over a decade ago, when Don Barnett took over TNAAU and slowly every year he improved that organization until it became one of the best run, most competitive, largest youth wrestling program in the country today.

TN wrestling interest and numbers are growing as fast as any state in the country and the quality of our wrestling is exploding.

Every high school coach in this state should call up Don and the current TNAAU board and tell them thank you!  I would guess that almost every kid that stood on the TSSAA podium was a product of the TNAAU system and it is the TNAAU that has become the feeder program to TSSAA WRESTLING!!

Scott, I understand that and agree that Don and AAU wrestling have helped tremendously with the growth of Tennessee wrestling along with my growth as a coach. I wouldn't be in the spot i'm in today without them. They were the ones to first see my potential as a coach and give me the  opportunity to coach a national team and work with some of the best wrestlers in the state.

We are talking about USA wrestling though and they don't have much, if any,  involvement in USA to my knowledge. With the number of wrestlers Tennessee has you need both AAU and USA working together not competing against each other.

sorry thunda i do not agree. you are listing accomplishments that are accomplished by athletes and coaches.  if you are referring to him as a coach that is comical. list me some things the head of the board is accomplishing.

Isn't one of his responsibilities to bring the best coaches and athletes from the state together for the team? Or did i forget something and we just pull them out of a hat? As someone who has coached the Junior team the last two years I can tell you he is definitely not a coach but he did give us the freedom of making our line ups and giving us the freedom to do what we saw fit with the team on the mat. As for the funds, ref pay,and coaches pay I have no clue.

I havent seen one person on this board (willing to put their name behind it) that is willing to back the guy and say that he is doing and good job and will do a good job in the future.

Not true.. While I don't agree with everything the man does he does have a lot of traits that are useful for a chairman. I think, and i have told him this face to face, if he wasn't so controlling and let the people put around him do more he actually wouldn't be doing that bad.

The Junior team has had success the past couple years, we have had multiple Fargo AA's, I think the sportsmanship award a couple times at the duals and all this while a man, who apparently everyone hates, is the chairman. I think this could all be solved if just a couple guys would sack up an apologize to each other. So all though i don't always agree with Bowers I do believe if him and a couple other people would get there #### together Tennessee would take people by storm this summer

  17. Alright this is getting about stupid y'all are all going to run the state into the ground because you cant work together and actually come up with ideas to help. You would much rather come on a forum and complain. While I definitely don't agree with everything Bowers does I don't see some of y'all stepping to the plate to try to deal with all he has to put up with. If he has upset you to the point you cant have a conversation with him you don't have to talk to him. All the other board members names are on here give them a call and tell them your ideas you think would help. Better yet just jump on the conference calls I Live in Maryland and I have still been on more conference calls then most of you probably have and he does post when they will be so no one can use the excuse i didn't know there was one. This talking trash about each other is not helping just hurting the state more.
