    He not leaving Oak Ridge

If that is who they hire, I do not understand why you would leave Oak Ridge for this spot. Its not RuCo pay nor talent. Add to that the fact that he better kiss the correct people's backside in Manchester and play the "right" kids, its not a job to leave an Oak Ridge for... If he is going to Coffee Co., he had better be a great juggler and able to recruit well and know how to please the "important" people/families down there.

Well it has taken the new coach 3 days to start cheating lol, Stotts had the 8th graders over and was in the gym with a clipboard running tryouts. You can't have your 8th graders until school is out smh. Tssaa was contacted and I'm sure they will lose summer days or HOF games just like the previous coach did his 1st year. Why can't coaches play by the rules or even worse how does high school coaches not even know the rules. Ignorance should not be an excuse to cheat.

I thought that they had decided as a county to go on and get out early by using their remaining unused weather days. If they did that, then she should have been good to hold tryouts, but if not, then yeah it sounds like a violation for her...

Hal Murrell has been hired as the new Summit girls’ basketball coach, the school announced today.

Murrell was the girls’ coach at Forrest High School (Chapel Hill).

He’s also coached at Columbia & Dickson Co. among others.

He replaces John Wild, who departed for a coaching & AD position at Santa Fe.

Murrell did a great job with the boys team at Columbia. Good luck to him at Summit.

  4. Congrats to Coach Stotts! She had done a very good job with those middle school kids and starting to build up basketball there in McMinnville with a camp and things already. I think she was a great choice even if she wasn't their first and that she will make them forget about the others they chased after and couldn't reel in. Good luck Coach Stotts!

Seems as though WC is willing to hire anyone with a pulse for the job to avoid hiring the current ms coach Stotts.

And how does someone get the scoop that Lippe has been promoted to AD and doesn’t know who Bud Brandon is? Especially since he’s literally helping with the current high school boys WC Elite aau program. IYKYK

Stotts would make the most sense at this point, since she knows what she has sent up to the high school, but she isn't the "name" that they are desperately searching for... I have heard great things about Hobbs, but I am not sure that this deep dig to try and find a "name" is his doings. He has been around for a long time and I think he gets that the program is not one of the top tier programs in the state that would draw that "name" that they are wanting so bad. Just seems like they are wasting a lot of valuable time to get a new coach in to hold spring practice, get the summer calendar set, etc... Digging a bigger hole is what it looks like and pushing the program backwards for sure...

  6. The word around is that they have started cold calling coaches to see if anyone would be interested. Sounds like they didn't get any big name applicant that they think they should have. It's hard to draw a big name when they can't compete salary wise with other systems that are within driving distance from McMinnville like a Rutherford County and even a little further like a Williamson County. Both of those systems are getting raises again and they already were paying much better than Warren Co. The folks in charge may need to temper the expectations there a little bit, only returning 1 kid from a team where as it has been said there were only 6 that saw meaningful minutes and with no development in the younger kids, it might take a little bit to get back to where they were just at. So, I wouldn't expect a Chad Hibdon, John Wild, Kyle Turnham, etc... type name to be interested in going there.

I believe that a coach can not coach a player who will be in his/her program for the following season. So, that would rule out eighth graders.

Wrong, a high school coach can coach anyone that is not enrolled at their school... so if you coach at a 9-12 school, then you can coach an 8th grade AAU team even if those kids will be enrolling at your school for the fall...

  8. I think from what I have heard from some decent officials about why they don't get high profile regular season games, much less state tournament games is because their mechanics isn't the old "bird dog" type that Mr. Menees looks for in an official. Now, I understand that some of that stuff is important, but just because someone can call a foul and stand like a statue in doing so with my hands in the right position doesn't mean that it was the right call. I think that it is time that the officials that don't make the games about them and do/try to do a decent job of getting the calls right and communicating with those involved should start getting those important regular season games and state tournament games. Just my 2 cents...

From all indications they are pumping millions of dollars into their entire program so this is not going to end soon.

The rumor is that they have had a donor give in the neighborhood of $46 million dollars to the athletics programs and wants them to compete nationally. These coaches that are being hired are also not being hired to teach. They are finding positions for them so that the academics are not effected. Webb is about to be an athletic monster. Turf football field and baseball and softball fields will make it easier to recruit and they aren't only looking at the local kids. The football team as 2 or 3 Bahamians coming in this year.

Any word on Forrest in Chapel Hill? Both the girls & boys head coaching jobs went up on the TSSAA bulletin board 9 days ago. Coach Bishop coached both teams last season.

I think Shane Chapman has taken the boys job. He was an assistant at Eagleville last year if I am not mistaken.
