Why did they only have 9-10 girls on the team this year? You would think with a dozen state titles in the school’s history that everyone there would want to come and play there? Are they losing athletes to other school’s? And why did this last coach leave after a winning record and upsetting Page in the postseason. Whoever gets the job, what has to be done so that everyone in Shelbyville will be all about Eaglette Basketball again?

My take, this years Coach did a very good job last three years with material he had.  Old School style that did not always mesh with today’s kids and parents.  Heard several had said they would not play next year if he returned.  And yes SCHS had lost kids to Webb, Cascade and Unionville.  Will be like starting over for whoever gets the job I’m afraid.  Good luck.

Could i ask where you are finding this information because this doesn't add up. Another question is how many classifications are there for middle schools? I thought it was only large and small division.

TMSAA WEBSITE has a list of all member schools by classification.  I stand by my 400 schools at least in Basketball.  Most sports are only small /large classifications but in Basketball we have A, AA, and AAA.  Talk is to add a fourth classification for Basketball.

What is the point of having this anyway since most teams aren't even in the TMSSAA?

I kindly disagree with this statement as that there are over 400 member schools in the TMSAA I the sport of basketball . May not be many where you live but in many areas most if not all are.

Cardinal rule...all or none. We have 2 high schools and 7 middle schools...some could be classified as "feeder schools" but others routinely split where they choose to attend high school. Big question is, do you allow open recruitment and a free for all, or do you allow for the feeders and exclude the others? Or, do you allow other systems to play and disallow systems like ours.

Seems like we're trending towards just letting kids transfer at will and play without restriction no matter the circumstances in high school...might as well include everyone!

I don't like where we're headed with high school sports...vouchers, unrestricted transfers, ect... will soon have the large privates sorting through everyone else's rosters and cherry picking whomever they want...small privates get the leftovers, and publics get the table scraps. Proponents dangle the words and phrases "school choice", "power to the parents", "equality", and "transparency". The truth is that they (privates) have all the cards, some in plain view (premise of selecting for parents), but most (NIL, privilege of selecting at will) up their sleeves. 4.0 students and great athletes will select where they attend...everyone else can apply and be denied admission at the discretion of the school.

One of the best posts I have ever read on CoachT.  I completely agree.  Also glad they voted down the 8 grade rule.  NCAAA is trying to ruin College sports and now the trickle down is starting to be seen in High School.

  5. Coffee very young.  No Seniors on the team.  Will get better as the season progresses.  Tough front end of schedule much easier after Christmas.  Also now paired with the Williamson County Region rather than Cleveland/Bradley area.   Next few years should make some postseason noise.

  6. First off I have no dog in the fight and live over 2 hours from Sweetwater.  I read the newspaper article.  And if you have any interest in this program you should also.  Coach I commend you on the way you handled the situation.   Shame on those Who had him fired which is essentially what happened. Administration and Parents.  Coach well wishes to you you deserve better.

I don’t know Coach Dodgen, but be careful what you wish for. 15-4 this year with losses to Cookeville, York, and a good Alabama team. According to the CoachT, 113-43 in the previous five years. From an outside viewpoint, he appears to put a very competitive team on the floor every year in what is probably the toughest district in the state in any classification.

Sometimes breaking a press is a personnel problem rather than a coaching problem.

No guarantee that a coaching change results in an upgrade. Good coaches are not easy to find

Some fans are delusional.  Even the best are not going to win every game and yes sometimes you are going to get blown out.  Happens at every level every year.  And yes I realize this is a big rivalry game and it makes fans even more upset to lose.  I can guarantee you that White County is lucky to have a coach like Dodgen in place.  Many others wish they had someone like him.  One day all these veteran coaches are going to be gone and with the shortage of teachers and young coaches the face of high school basketball is going to look very different.  I know others are going to disagree and that’s fine , not looking for an argument or debate just stating my observation from a 30 plus year educator and coach.
