I think that Northview is a great team but are really about to get tested coming up...They have some areas to work in but i think they are the best team in Sevier County. After the Gp almost losing to cocke county and getting smoked by Carter. I have lost hope in them.

No way they are the best team in SC.  Maybe better than Seymour and PF but not GP and Sevier County.  They haven’t played anybody yet.    They are off to best start in school history, but it’s about to get real.   They barely got by Seymour.

  2. Smoky Bears go to Karns and come away with the win! Young team pulled off the upset no one outside Sevier County thought was possible.  Led by 1 Sr, a Soph, and the rest are all freshmen.  A Jr stepped up big tonight off the bench.  I wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight if I was WB fan after seeing the replay.  Tough ending.

Brand new poster here. Been on Coach T for awhile, just been following several threads and different sports. Love this site for high school sports in Tennessee. Seen several different threads, over a variety of sports. Most just crack me up and are just pure entertainment. But man Murphy, you are something else. Obviously no one knows who you are and after the last thread, you will never admit who you are (shocking), but man you must seriously butt hurt by the Sevier County football program. And who knows why.  Not sure who the Head Coach or OC is, but the videos from the last thread and already the venom on this thread, either they did you wrong or more than likely you feel like they did you wrong and you just got told the truth and got butt hurt and took your ball and went home. Either way, folks like you are why people are getting disenchanted with  youth and high school sports. My advice Murphy, find a life and grow up.

This is the best post I’ve seen.  I think you got this right.  SC problems this year started with the QB play.  QB is a great kid but is not a QB for this level. I don’t care who the qb coach is, there’s a reason he isn’t the QB at GP or TKA. Just not a QB.  AR couldn’t have got any more out of him than MP did.  They will be in same shape next year.   Lots of folk plan on the incoming freshman to be the next QB if he comes to SC and doesnt follow his sis to GP, which is the current rumor. Kid at NV should have stayed at SC.  He would have been starter if not for snap decision to head to Catholic.

Murph bitter about something or just likes to stir things up.

I'll have to pick Mo West on this one after one of the parents jumped the Sevier County OC after the Newport loss which had to be retrained after the parent told him he sucks and needed to be fired. It's been an interesting week as usual at 226 Cedar Street in Sevierville after this event last Friday Night with Quality Control hoping this didn't get out on the street. I'm keeping my mouth shut about it.

Not the first time this parent has been known to act this way from what I’m told.  Sadly, the player witnessed the shouting by his dad.  He was near the wife of the OC and apologized for his dads behavior and gave her a hug.  He was embarrassed and supports his coach.

This team has been hit with key injuries and mostly, doesn’t have a qb the entire staff has any faith in.  They pulled the QB early and the second q.  Played the best athlete they have at QB the rest of the way, even though he wasn’t expected to play due to being banged up. They were hoping to be able to rest him for the playoffs.

I’m sure folks are frustrated, but this team wasn’t as good as the last couple teams from the beginning of the season.  They were lucky to have won early in season before injuries and starting qb play wasn’t what has hoped for.

I do believe it all started going downhill with the exit of the QB coach, the young man he had been grooming and was probably going to be the starter as a freshman left and went to Catholic. He has since returned to the county and is now at Northview but hasn't been cleared yet. I believe the outlook on this season would be completely different than it is currently with him under center. The SC defense is very good sans the game against West but they've made a lot of teams look really bad this year.

The kid you speak of didn’t have a chance of being the starting QB as a freshman.  He wasn’t ready for the job.  He was competing against a Jr who was the returning starter, more seasoned, and better.  That kid actually thought he had a chance to start at SC as a freshman and as a sophomore at Catholic.  Delusional at best. Coach Raga is a good coach but the kid wasn’t ready and wasn’t going to start.  He would be now if he had waited his time.

I know what I speak of as well. My son was on that team.

The former starting QB at SC was not out, they made the switch after the William Blount game when #2 ran all over Billy Bob and is still the best option IMO. The offense is absolutely horrible, if not for a great effort from their defense missing their star LB, it would have been much worse. I thought that GP was the worst program in the county after watching the county jamboree but they sure appear to be the best by a landslide.

Very good take on things.  QB that started the season was pulled due to struggling.  SC going with an athlete at QB now.  He giving them the best chance to win some games.  SC isn’t as good as team as they were last year.  They lost their QB and strong supporting cast.  I didn’t believe it has anything to do with the OC or HC.  They simply don’t have a QB that can throw the ball.  The season started was thought to be by didn’t pan out.  Not coaching.  Coaches have done a good job with what they have had to work with at the QB spot. Amazing they have won as many games as they have.  Besides West, this region is way down.

  7. During the first Sevier Co-East game, several factors. One, game was at East, which is tough place to play.  Second, East played great and shot lights out. Sevier Co was down a starter and lost 3 other starters at the half due to injuries.  Everything went East way.  The game at SC was a great game to watch.  Sevier has everyone healthy and  played one of their best games. East got in foul trouble and Sevier played better defensively.   Both teams should advance in district and face each other again in the district tournament.

You're sandbagging, haha.      Your QB is not great but he is very decent.     How many HS teams have a QB who is going to play at the next level?     Very few.        Don't give up, you guys can take Sevier

Sevier County does have a QB that will play at the next level.   That could very well decide the game.  He can manage the game, pass, and run the ball.  Recently broke almost all QB records at the school and there have been some good ones play there.  Many predict this to be the closet game of the quad.  SC defense much improved from years past.

Sounds good. I’ll be honest don’t know much bout Kings but you’re gonna get a hard nosed run heavy team with Oneida. They will also hit you for 4 quarters and you will know it Saturday mornin.

Exactly what I’d expect from Oneida. I hear Oneida and I think of hard hitting and tough running game. That and Stan Pennington!

  10. TKA having a pretty good year overall.  Should have won against Seymour in opener. Had a few TDS called back.   Lost 2 GP, but GP has best team they have had in years.  Other loss was to Friendship Christian, which is a solid team every year.  However, the starting QB got hurt in that game in the first quarter.  Other QBs, a Fr and JR, have stepped in and done well.  The QB is questionable on when he will return.  Receivers are fast and skilled.  Lots of team speed.  They plan to outscore everyone.  Line has some big guys but mostly young. Defense has played pretty well all year.

It appears that the Regions will remain the same as the previous two years and the West will be adding USJ (came down due to losing 21%), Trinity Christian, and Columbia Academy.  The West will lose Zion Christian because they were granted permission to have a non-region football schedule.  The East will be adding Grace Christian Franklin and Webb Bell Buckle.

East: Friendship Christian, Mt. Juliet Christian, Middle Tennessee Christian, Grace Baptist Chattanooga, King's Academy, Ezell-Harding, DCA, Grace Christian Fanklin, and Webb School Bell Buckle.

West: Davidson Academy, Fayette Academy, Nashville Christian, Clarksville Academy, Tipton-Rosemark Academy, Jackson Christian, USJ, Trinity Christian, and Columbia Academy.

I believe the new Lakeway Academy may be placed in the East as well?  I guess that all almost all games on your schedule will the be region games.

  12. From the TSSAA minutes:

     14. Approved the proposed District Alignment for DII Class A Middle Region & Proposed Region Alignment for DII Class A Football. It will be effective for the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years.

Does anyone have any insight on the way the regions might be aligned?

As a dad of an athlete, it makes me sad to see this happening to those kids. Matt Mercer is a terrific person. He will surround himself with quality Christian men and women to help those kids reach their potential. It just stinks for the upper-classmen going through all of this. They don't get a re-do.

The kids at TKA play hard and will continue to play hard for a coach that shows he cares for them and has their back.  That is the biggest difference between this years coach and playing for Coach Lowe the last few years. Players knew what they had with Coach Lowe. Coaches don't walk out on the players during practice and expect them to respect you. Greer did just that. TKA numbers are down, both on the FB field and the school. Matt Mercer and the administration will work hard for the kids to provide them with the opportunity to compete and do it the right way.

Dang it! Should've looked first. Thought he was a TKA guy given previous comments. My apologies.....didn't think he had that many yards anyway.

#7 from TKA has had a great year. However, no where near 3000yds.  He was right at 1000 yds rushing when he got hurt. He is special returning the ball as well.  He will be back by the playoffs.

There are a lot of great backs in Div II this year

This game will be unlike any other MJCA game. Running teams give DCA huge problems and MJCA does it well. If MJCA wins it wont be an upset. DCA will score but I'm not sure how often the defense will rise up and make stops?

Whoever DCA plays in the playoffs they'd better be able to affect the QB and cover the passing game. The QB has moments of HS magic and he has weapons all over the field.

I agree with the statement about the DCA QB.  In my opinion, he was the biggest difference in the TKA game.  He made some great plays with his arm, but he also made some runs to keep drives alive.  The RB ran the ball very well also.

As far as running teams giving DCA problems, TKA losing their RB 3 weeks ago has made a huge difference in their 2 losses.  Ask MJCA how well he ran the ball against them? He was the difference in that game. 30 carries for 300 plus yards.

  16. TKA had probably their worst offensive production all year. Had 3 critical turnovers.  Defensively, played ok. DCA QB made some great plays. Solid HS QB. DCA scored 2 tds and 3 FG from 40+ yds. Give DCA credit for coming to play.

MTCS will make a strong showing, but not sure they will have the steam for 4 qtrs. against FCS. TKA is the favorite in their matchup with DCA, imho. A win over DCA will be a great program win for them and keep the momentum going into the playoffs. Hope it's a good game up in Seymour for everybody and all the kids make it out injury-free.

I agree about moral victories. Those still count as a loss. Line and LB have played well all year. Lusby is a football player! He deserves a chance to play somewhere at the next level next year. FC probably still wins the game, but it really made TKA more one dimensional without TB Wyllins on the field. He has had a great season up to his injury against Grace. He's a special runner and a difference maker.  He should be back by the playoffs. TKA getting to play at home against DCA really helps. Looking forward to a fun night Friday in Seymour.

FCA by a lot. A whole lot. They gonna paddle that behind.

Much closer game than I think some in mid state thought it would be. Very close til the 4th. FC had to fight for this this one. Both teams played hard. Good contest. Best to both teams as the regular season finishes up.
