  1. Dyersburg is actually 6-18. That goose egg just looks horrible up there. But don’t sleep in those girls. They have a very young team and Coach Strayhorn is having to rebuild the program. This season’s roster has no seniors and only 3 juniors as well. This team will return all players next season. The also have one of the best freshman in the entire state. Just watch what this team is going to do real soon.
  2. Yes 8th graders are good to go. I do know a few girls who went to DC just because of Strayhorn. But we will see if he becomes coach. I do know he has some really good talent there he just needs to harness it and utilize his big girl. She will be a sophomore and can move for her size. She needs to work on her jumping but her basketball IQ is super high. I know she can learn a play in minutes and knows not only her position but all of her teammates as well. And there is a great ball handler who is coming up from 8th grade as well. Those two have played together for years. It will be fun to see what any coach can do if they utilize these two correctly.
  3. Yes Strayhorn is a worker and his players will be in shape. U don’t think he will pull much from the high school ranks right away, however. Those girls who played at the high school level will have to sit out a year from the day they last played and I just don’t think some will want to sit out a year. IMO
  4. Strayhorn will not be at Dyersburg. He was offered the middle school team before Ayers took it over and he didn’t want it then. He said it was not the fit for him then and those girls are now in high school so why would it be fit for him now? Not happening.
  5. I have to look at this a little different. Karly chose to go where she felt would best fit her. Choosing a college to play for is not like when we were in high school. The winning powerhouses have changed and so have the way recruiting goes. My daughter plays basketball and likes Tennessee but she absolutely loves Baylor. If she had the option to play for either she would choose Baylor, even though they just lost their coach and hired a new one. It is about the style of play as much as the school fit and major the athlete is choosing. If we see Holly’s teams were selfish and didn’t play as a team don’t you think the athletes that are watching the games see that as well? I know my daughter sees it. She breaks down the style of play as well as the plays the run and does this just from tv. So if my freshman has been doing this for 5-6 years now I am pretty sure that Karly was doing the exact same thing. I promise a kid from Tennessee will not play harder for Tennessee because of pride just because they live here. They play harder for a team they believe in and feel valued in. Jmo
  6. Dyersburg does have some rebuilding to do, but if they use their big post player (upcoming sophomore) more along with their upcoming freshman guard they will be hard to compete against. Those two played together for some time and if they can have a good knowledge of the game. Post player is 6’1” and can move for a big girl. Guard can do it all and make plays. It will be interesting to see who will take over and will they use these 2 players to their advantage?
  7. Ayers did a great job in Dyersburg. The problem they had was getting the girls in the gym and parent support. The coaches lived in the gym and some girls would be their daily others only when practice was called. I think with girls hungry for a championship and wanting to be in the gym they will do well at Riverdale.
  8. My daughter is wanting to play AAU this spring. She is currently in 6th grade and i haven't dealt woth AAU in a very long time. She played for Dyersburg Middle School this year and is standing 5ft 11in at 12 yrs old. anyone with information for tryouts would be appreciated.
