I know DB traditionally has trouble with penalties but I'm hearing a lot of teams in upper east tn. with the same problems this year. Could it be upper east tn. refs.? I know of four 15 yard penalties against DB this year that were called from a ref that was at least 30 yards from where the infraction was and at least that far behind the play. That looks suspect to me. All four penalties called back huge gains and two TD's if I remember correctly.

It seems as if there has been an emphasis on penalties from officials this year. Every game I’ve watched and or read about is littered with yellow flags. Seems ridiculous

If I remember correctly the East QB was 4 for 4 and over 100yrds. in the first quarter. That was not against the 2's. DB dialed up the pressure after that and the QB had to hurry his throws, if he didn't get sacked. But the DB secondary did play much better in the third quarter. The 2's in the forth did have trouble defending deep as Mo. East kept their starters in trying to score.

We are on the same page. 2 of those 4 completions I didn’t think we covered good at all. 1 was covered up really good by our #20 and the kid just made a really good catch and then the TD pass was one of those freak things 99 times out of 100 that is a pass break up and incomplete. Just so happens it bounces right back to the kid.

i was saying though, in the past against a couple receivers like that we would give up more than 100 and more than 1 TD. So I feel like coverage seems improved. It might not be and this ends up being a bad take, but just my opinion in this current moment.

Well then let's regroup and get it right against the Tribe next week.     As I mentioned earlier, a lot of what we think we know about DB is based on tradition and history, they have not played a quality opponent yet.     Maybe Crockett can find that weakness and expose it.   From what you read on here and elsewhere DB's secondary (defensive backs) is a glaring weakness but they are stout against the run.    Time to air it out next week and see what happens.

From what I saw our 2s had the biggest issue against their deep balls. Other than 1 or 2 completions I thought our secondary played good. The balls that they caught were pretty well defended. The first touchdown was absolutely lucky by the receiver. Ball was deflected and well played by our corner and bounces right back to the kid.

Well duh. My point was "a big drop-off" What you like to see is when your 2's come in they continue to execute. Especially with the QB technically being a starter. And especially against a team like Volunteer. The 2's didn't look "ready". But one plus with the 2's was they didn't give up a ton of yards with penalties. If you want to see how it works watch what happens when Maryville puts their 2's in the game.

Man you said we weren’t better than last years team… that’s very dramatic and absolutely wrong. Our skills look better, and our line looks much improved. If you remember last year we struggled to run the ball against everyone..

I meant to say earlier, West Ridge has hands-down the best football facility of any high school I have ever been to.   Whoever laid all that out was really thinking.    In addition to the normal concessions I loved all the tents, and the big areas for the kids to walk around and socialize, really nice place and an enjoyable experience.

    …. Ehh

I understand we have played 2 bad teams, but you have your dramatic meter turned to high level to start the season. Also as much as Jake has played I don’t think we really have a 2 QB system anymore. Carson has played most of the snaps at this point.

28 - 0 at the half, 9 penalties for 85yrds. just in the first half. DB's stats look pretty good but play is very sloppy. Huge drop off when the 2's came in for the last drive before halftime. Couldn't move the ball at all. Ended up throwing a int. to end the half. I don't think this team is as good as last year's team.

Maybe that’s why they are the back ups… Probably not going to get much playing time… I think that’s why they aren’t starters

Boones got it this year, everyone on defense returned, 21 seniors, it’s either make noise or they under perform.  West Ridge beat a volunteer team that is the opposite of Boone, all their playmakers who played varsity 3-4 years are gone, it’s a long rebuild for them.  West Ridge will ship over kids to East so they can get the numbers to go down to 5a.

They would have to ship over a ton, I heard from someone they have almost 2,000 kids in school this year. No way they can get those numbers down to get to 5A

If your score holds then the defense has a bunch of great depth ,at least against TH.I think most feel like the Tribe will move the ball and that's always a good thing. You really never know when it comes to young men and this game with an odd shaped ball.If it's raining and crazy stuff happens, then you always have a ''2008 McMinn county playoff game '' type of chance. BUT,not this friday ...

Dang no need to throw that bad juju from 08 out this early in the year lol

How did the Indians fare in their scrimmages?  Pre season over now, game on next Friday night

I heard we did very well against Knox Central, and against Lord Botetort from Roanoke ,VA they looked really good. DB moved the ball at will on offense and the defense didn’t give up hardly any yardage all scrimmage.

Hoping that it is a good sign for the Tribe.
