I know the database isn't 100% accurate, but according to the database, Obion has had 15 different coaches over the past 61 years.  Only one of those coaches has had a winning record.  Chris Hill coached the Rebels in 1961 and 1962.   During his 2 year stint at OCC, the Rebs won 13 games and lost 9.

That is probably accurate. The math says that's an average of 4.06 years per coach. Makes you scratch your head and wonder.

OP, considering the region that the team is going to have to compete in, and the what appears to be lack luster support from the community I think its probably going to be an up and comer. Something along the lines of a DC or OC at a program now.

I wish Obion luck. It is going to a tough job building the program back.

It will likely be someone from outside the area looking for their first HC position. If not, they will have to promote from within (unlikely scenario).

As far as building the program back. They must first have a program. No coach has had a long tenure at OC.  7 to 8 years is max there. Seldom are those years above .500.  Two coaches that come to mind who had limited success there and extremely successful post OC careers are Pratt and Bowling. OC is not an environment condusive to winning football.

I looked up both systems pay scales. A beginning teacher in Tipton co with a bachelor’s starts out at $40k. In Union City it is $35k and change. Tends to even out over time but there is till somewhat of a gap. And yes I know UC and Obion are separate systems. I spoke without engaging my brain earlier. Lol.

Interesting. The kicker may be the insurance and coaching stipend.

I agree with you to an extent. But I just think in this case UC is where his heart was. Pay in Tipton Co is very good. More so than Obion. I would imagine he took a  pay cut to come to UC.

The Union City system is separate from Obion Co, like Milan and Gibson Co. The Union City system pays much better and the majority of the insurance is covered by the school system. He is likely much better off than in Tipton.

OB definitely doesn't have a talent problem. I think Jokur was saying if they run the veer they will because the players will move

You are correct sir. I miss read.

Jokur may very well be correct.

The veer is a great offense for teams struggling with talent. It is an equalizer. But I don't see Alabama running it.

    Ridiculous!

Nick Saban quote on the Veer

You all are funny.  The Veer is a great equalizer when you have less talent.  At a 6A program like OB he can platoon O and D and actually be able to play real defense spend more time on Offensive wrinkles and Ball Security.  I will gladly go on record as saying this will be a very successful move for Coach Bowling.

Don't worry, if he runs veer and that jazz at OB he will have FAR less talent than the other teams in that area.  Those D1 kids aren't staying around to play in that system.

I hope he is successful. The veer is a great offense. I agree. I just don't know how well it will work with today's generation of player.

If there is little talent at OB like you say, then this move makes more sense.

2 maybe 3 kids running the ball with one running it the majority of the time with everyone else blocking isn’t what kids want to do nowadays.  I think They had around 30 players and he kicked like 6 of them off the team right before they played fairley. I’m guessing with him leaving he wasn’t seeing anything coming up this year got an offer and snagged it up. I don’t see his offense working in 6a and not throwing the ball. Now if he adds some throwing in there it may work.

I think you've hit on something big here. Bowlings offense won't translate well to 6A. And here's why.

In 6A you normally have really good athletes and depth. At this level you expect multiple athletes to move on to the next level, whatever that may be. The veer showcases about 3 skills players and a few interior linemen. In 6A you will have multiple good skills players. They're not going to just be slot blockers and decoys for very long before they decide they're not going play any longer. As far as the linemen are concerned, they only run block. Next level coaches want to see how a lineman pass blocks. They won't see that with this offense. Therefore, frustration on their part. Is see players not wanting to play in this offense very long.

Just my thoughts on this move.

We needed to score again to make it 35 point deficit. So it is relevant we wanted the ball back

That makes since now. As I stated I wasn't at the game and based on the posts it sounded as if the onside kick was done after the running clock started.

  9. I wasn't at the game and don't know the outcome of the Peabody onside kick or how aggressively Peabody's players pursued the ball. But I'm going to have to disagree with Mr Bigswo's and others evaluation of said onside kick. I am pretty sure most are misinterpreting the reasoning behind the kick. Coach Bowling's teams have onside kicked the ball many times over the years while being up BIG. None more than the 2014 team. We all know what kind of team that was. The reason, I believe, is to give the opposing team favorable field position. An act of Mercy, if you will. You can disagree with me or not, but that is my interpretation of that type of onside kick situation.
