Went to McKenzie yesterday. Saw South Side, TCA, McKenzie and Peabody.

Saw Peabody and TCA in the 8 am morning game. Honestly I wasn't watching the scores, but more so looking to see who would bring that energy and effort to start the day off, TCA is gonna be pretty good obviously and should be a favorite to get to the state tournament. Peabody is rebuilding after a state tourney run, BUT I'm so encouraged because those kids play so hard, and they communicate with one another very well. I look forward to seeing them progress.

And in the game of the day, South Side and McKenzie basically went down to the wire, with South Side grinding out a one point win. McKenzie is the unanimous favorite in 1A, and  anything less than a gold ball will be disappointment. So much talent, I really hope they play Gibson County and Westview this season. South Side is South Side, what else can you say really???? The most athletic team in West Tennessee with excellent coaching, internal improvement with a few returning players mixed with the freshman class could be the key.

McKenzie played a great game yesterday. They were really scrappy and fought to the end. Cant wait for next season.

They didn’t lose a player that played. Lost 1 bench player. I just watched your game with them last year. They couldn’t never get in any rhythm last year.

wow.. yes Greenfields press caused them problems the whole game and North Greene had no answer for Chloe.

North Green. None of them are easy up there. They are here because they beat a lot of teams. No room for error anywhere.

Thats true. I wonder if they still have their post player from last year? She made some pretty good plays against Greenfield last year and pretty athletic at the 5.

No idea about Clay County. No they are always scrappy and have knocked off Clarkrange a couple of times in the past three years.

Gotcha. Know they have a great boys program too as Bethel's best player this past year graduated from there. How is yalls first round matchup looking?

  5. I will say this... When we had a long layoff between the regular season and district tournament, we were calling teams left and right trying to schedule a game. Since Greenfield played Arlington in the past, we reached out to coach shields to see if she wanted to play us. She was very complementary on our program  and knew that we had a good team. The game was well played and everyone was on their best behavior. Both teams had great sportsmanship and even picked each opposing player up when they were down. After the game some of the players parents and fans went up to her and thanked her for a great game and we were very thankful that they drove 2 hours to play  us on a school night. In turn she was very proud of our programs success and wished us luck in the postseason. Coach Shields is a great coach and she has a great relationship with her girls( even working with some one on one in the offseason). Her Facebook page is filled with positive energy and just her team having fun either in practice or during games. Its very unfortunate that this mess has happened to the Arlington and I hate it for her players.

With all due respect this is not the same Mckenzie team as last season.  Y’all have two sophomores that didn’t play and two freshman that have made a huge impact.  Davis (district mvp) as a freshman speaks to the different team y’all are.  Wilkins inherited a very talented team.  He is a good coach but they have more talent than they have had in a while.

I agree but with if we had last years coach I dont think we win the district and only lose one game all year. He was a slow down the ball coach, and that's not what our girls need to play like. I agree on the talent but the coaching is a whole lot better than last year. Not sure who you mean with the sophomores but Auvenshine and K. Reynolds did a lot of minutes last year.

You and me both. We got our work cut out for us too. Union City has a good squad. Last years game with Union City was one of the best games I have watched in that gym. You talking about a dogfight. Gym was packed and people standing all around the rails. It was a Rocky Balboa Apollo Creed slugfest.

Madison and Jada Williams going at it will be a good matchup. Last years game was a fun one. who knows it might be a defensive battle once again.  It  will be a great game regardless but can Union City keep its turnovers down to stay in the ball game late? Which Union City team will show up? I am not sure. Gibson county's keys are to try to get Jada into foul trouble and let the supporting cast for UC try to do the scoring. We might have that Rocky type slugfest in McKenzie tomorrow.

I know y’all can play and Wilkins has brought a ton of energy and fundamentals to this team. Y’all are like us and will be tough next year. Loretto has always been a handful with their length in the half court. Y’all will have to play fast to get some good looks. Two really good teams that have Gold Ball potential.

Yes you are right. Man I would love to see a GC and McKenzie rematch at the glasshouse. Single A will be a lot easier for us next year with a good amount of teams moving up to AA. Loretto will come out with a good game plan against us and they think they will try a lot of what Huntingdon has a done the past two times they have played us.

McKenzie will have to guard Kinsey Weathers as well. McKenzie’s post defense will be something to watch here. This one will come down to the wire. Vegas line probably 2-4 point line favoring McKenzie. I am taking McKenzie by 4 but this one is a coin flip. Loretta probably the mental edge here because they have eliminated McKenzie the last two seasons. Wouldn’t surprise me Loretto wins either. Two really good teams.

Bennett and Callahan will be on her. IMO Callahan matches up with her physical wise but she will have to stay out of foul trouble. Bennett has done a great job all year staying out of foul trouble. I know you get this but others on this board dont.... This is the same McKenzie team that played Loretto last year. We were slow, turnover prone and couldn't hit a layup even if we were uncontested. Wilkins has done a great job developing players in the offseason and improving our fundamentals.  That has led to improved play and a 27 and 1 season. We are probably the most physical team that Loretto will play all year.

The keys for Greenfield are definitely handling the press and rebounding.  Other than Darby, our girls can get flustered by a quick team that presses full court.  Also, our lack of size hurts our rebounding.  If we can take care of the ball and box out, I think we have a good chance.  Biggs and Crouse have really turned it on here lately and are knocking down 3s like crazy.  Peabody should be a good game.  I’ve heard great things about their team being quick and having a couple guards that can really shoot.  Hopefully we can pull this game out and make another trip to state.  Either way, our girls have exceeded my expectations considering all that they lost from last years team.  Coach Tori is a great coach and will have them in the mix for years to come.

Coach Liggett was a great hire for y'all. She gets after the officials and really motivates her players ( reminds me a lot of Kellie Jolly Harper). The key to Peabody is you have to attack the basket either to draw the foul or kick it out for the 3. In the Gleason game, Peabody was able to get a lot of steals and forced turnovers because Gleason wasn't attacking their zone; they were just simply passing it around the perimeter which caused the Lady tide to get in the passing lanes which led to steals and easy layups. On the defensive end; Greenfield must be ready to take charges. Easley and CeCe Johnson love to drive to the basket. If you get those two, but Johnson in particular in foul trouble, then Greenfield has a chance to get the W.

Will for sure be a great game! If Peabody brings the pressure and executes the game plan like they did vs Gleason last night, Peabody will come away with the win! Totally took Gleason out of anything they wanted to do! Very impressive! I hope we get another GC vs Peabody match up in Region finals!

I personally would to like to see a Greenfield/ Gibson County matchup in the region championship. I think Greenfield is playing much better as the season goes on and the supporting cast around Edie Darby are knocking down shots.  The first meeting between Gibson and Greenfield was a very close game.

GC took it to another level tonight.  Don’t see them being touched til state tourney.   Just obliterated Bradford tonight.  Wouldn’t be surprised to see round 4 between GC/Peabody.  Greenfield better be ready Monday night.

Greenfield has better guard play than Gleason and they can shoot the 3 better. Greenfield is very discipled and they don't panic when pressured. I think that Peabody/ Greenfield is a tossup rn... could see either team winning.

And we beat them for the 3rd time!!!!  I guess all the girls who moved in or were recruited in didn't really help.

The two sisters moved to Huntingdon. Mom got  a job as a teacher at the middle school. #35 is a great player. Huntingdon has a great team with some young pieces that will be tough to handle when they get to be upper classmen. Brooklyn Williams is there best player this year and they will certainly miss her presence once she graduates.

I agree. I watched Greenfield and Gleason last night and they both played slower than expected. Neither team pressed hardly at all. Greenfield is playing good ball right now.

I fell asleep watching the Gleason/ Greenfield game last night . Man i cant stand that slow ball but it works in Greenfields favor against their rivals. I would have loved to watch the Greenfield and Union City game tonight. Two very different teams on paper and two contrasting styles going at it. You can tell that Greenfield is improving and playing a lot better as the season is going along.

They played hard as they always do!! Gibson County just has too much muscle in the paint. I will agree that they match up ten times better with Greenfield than they do Union City. Gleason won’t be easy either but I think they match up with them well also. Got a decent shot to make state.

Gleason and Peabody will be a tough matchup for both squads. Peabody wants to play fast and up tempo while Gleason wants to slow it down and get a good shot.  Anderson will definitely need some help in region play.
