This is kind of what I expect too. I’d be happy to make semi finals against Covington or Dyersburg, and beyond happy to meet Alcoa at State.

I think realistically Waverly is super talented. Probably the most talented group of players we have had, possibly ever. Waverly has to get better on the D Line, which I think will happen.

Overall I’m pretty excited about this season. I’m excited about this team. I’m excited about the new Region and new teams.

If Waverly continues to improve week in and week out and stays healthy, the possibilities are endless for this team and this season.

I expect the offense to score lots of points and I expect the defense to be better than last year. It’s just going to take our D Line a little more time to get firing on all cylinders. But to do all that, we have got to stay healthy.

I think whoever comes out of 7 3A makes it to the title game. Lot of athletes and speed out of this region. Covington is clearly the favorite. Dyersburg is getting a lot of love this season and rightfully so, but they have been defeated by Ripley two years in a row. This game has become quite interesting. I would assume Covington will face one of these two in the quarterfinals. Waverly will for sure make whoever gets to the semi finals work for it I am sure. They are not a push over. I just am not sure if they cant match the speed they will see in that game. Stewart County and Fairview are sleepers on that side and will be tough outs.

  2. I believe there is no question the Covington is the favorite, but how does it fall after that, and will someone challenge for the top spot? Dyersburg maybe, seems to be a lot of confidence surrounding them already this year. I do believe whoever makes it out of this region will represent West Tennessee in the Championship game this season.

That could be a reach, but they've got a ton of kids back including many of their lineman.

They drop down from 4A and that side of the bracket isn't as strong this year with some power teams like Milan moving up.

It's gonna be an interesting post season in 3A on the West side of the state this year.

I could see that I guess with the return of starters. I just think the West until someone other than Covid proves otherwise runs through Covington. Kirby and his bunch seem to reload every year. But at the same time, I am not sure how Covington looks on paper at this moment after graduation. No arguments with the number 1 team haha.

I looked at Sonny Moore today and they had it a 10pt spread.

I believe Alcoa wins by as much as they want in this game. I am not willing however to say they have ZERO chance to win this game because that is why you strap them up. Good luck to both teams this week and enjoy. Just having a taking a little jab at BPM from a couple weeks ago.

Do you think Gatlinburg Pittman can beat Alcoa tomorrow?  I get what you are saying but I just feel like there some games where two teams line up and unless something out of the ordinary happens on team has no chance of winning just cause the other is that much better. I feel like that is the case here.

So Haywood and Alcoa are comparable now? No disrespect to the Tomcats, but I believe Alcoa is a bad comparison due to the year in and year out Gold balls that flow through there. Springfield has proven the last few years that you don't have to be as big and as athletic as Haywood to win the game, and believe me I am not saying the Ripley will win this game. I am saying they have a chance and to say zero chance for THIS game is absurd I believe. Again, Haywood is the favorite and maybe the better team, BUT the better team and or favorite doesn't always win this time a year and that is all I was getting at. I am sure those kids at Ripley are working hard just like the ones in Haywood in preparation to win the game.

    Zero chance for RIPLEY....

I would say this is an absurd statement. Haywood is the favorite based on the regular season game. However, teams that get beat in the regular season by a certain team have been known to avenge that loss in the playoffs. Sometimes a team doesn't accept that they are supposed to lose and scratches and claws their way to a victory. After many years of watching this game I can say with absolute certainty that anyone at this point in the year has a chance. Either way I am very proud of both of these Region 7-4A teams and coaches for still playing at this time of year, and navigating very difficult times in society and the world with all the issues they have dealt with this season.

  7. I think this game is going to be better than most might think. Dyersburg was in a rebuild last year and gave Haywood fits in their regular season meeting. Not playing in the regular season might be in Dyersburg's favor, but it is hard to ignore the size and athleticism of Haywood. I believe this game will be a great one, and if I had to pick a winner I say Haywood only because I believe they are capable of getting some stops.

  8. So is Greenfield's coach that good? I mean people keep saying he doesn't have the athletes that another team does and what not but for the last few years he has won a lot of games there. I don't remember Greenfield ever being this good in the last 20 or 30 years as far as record goes. I was just curious how they are able to hold on to a coach that is finding success at a school that has always been known for basketball.

  9. I think Haywood has a very talented team. They might not have you guys believing in them right now, but they are still a good team with a ton of potential. Guys like Jaylen Lewis and Cam Douglas seem to come through year in and year out and make plays time and time again. I do believe the region is more competitive this year from top to bottom. These playoffs could be very interesting. Also I believe it is hard to hold some inconsistencies with teams against them too much due to Covid and the restrictions that they have faced this year. Some places were held out longer than others and had more restrictions that hindered their preparation for the season. Some where full go the whole time and that is the reason they started out more consistent in my opinion. This may not hold true for everyone, but I believe if you did some digging you would be suprised. Also one thing is for sure Coach Smith is a heck of a coach and will put his guys in a position to win.

  10. Region 7 4A has some good running backs Coreterrion Moore, Ripley and Isreal Barbee, Dyersburg. I am not sure of their stats but these are as good of running backs as you will find and have had good careers. Jaylen Lewis of Haywood has been impressive as well in the defensive secondary.
