Something is wrong in OR. Earlier, I predicted OR would be tough late, I was wrong.
It doesn't matter we had guys hurt and we have most of them back, something is wrong with the OR team. I'm gonna with hold judgment until next season, I just know something isn't right in OR football
Easy - The new coach is clueless. Lets just call him Dooley Ridge.

LOL. Not with this coach. Pretty sure he was sub 500 his career. Much like Dooley.
And #9? How many times do you throw to him? He can’t catch.

OR has hired another Derek Dooley. How can you not get calls in on time? Why try to get weird creative with plays when you don’t have the players to do so….not to mention starting a new QB. Speaking of, the new QB should be the guy. Impressive despite the outcome.

MmmKay? Maybe you go get some reality pills and get a little truthism flowing in them veins of yours. This season is likely to be as bad as last seasons, or worse.

Yea it's the defenses fault when the offense or Sp teams fumbles and all but gives them points. You really didn't watch
Pretty sure the offense and SP Teams didnt actually allow the other teams defense to put a score on the board; fumble recovery, etc.
I wish I didnt watch the game, because it was poor at every level.

Guess you didnt either? 24-0...didnt know getting blown out by 24 means the D played well.

Oak Ridge killed themselves tonight. Its going to suck for another month or so but it will get alot better when all the dudes are back.Plus a lot of new still being figured out.I would bet Oak Ridge had as much or more yards than Farragut and still lost 24-0.To many drops, fumbles and penalties at the wrong time.It happens and I have all the confidence in the world in this staff getting them better.Big ups to defense for playing pretty good
"Big ups to defense for playing pretty good " - What game was this? Pretty sure this was a shutout. 24-0 isn't playing pretty good.

It was mainly 1 Oak Ridge fan that thought anything like that.
I don't see anything getting better anytime soon. Overrated HC and very poor execution at every level of the game. Game reminded me of a mediocre JV team scrimmaging against the varsity squad.

Yep, so did all them UT fans when they hired Derek Dooley.

If we could do it wrong tonite we did! We gotta cut out mistakes, can't keep beating ourselves.
Inspite of the game I still gave out a couple of shirts. These guys have had a good season so far and deserve a shirt
# 3 and # 23. so tonite was a good time to give them one.
WILDCAT PRIDE
Not sure anyone deserved a shirt? I guess these shirts are turning out to be participation ribbons. #23, did he even get in on a tackle? I see him doing more dancing around before the games and between plays then actually making a play. SMH

So let me get this straight. Coach Miner now the HC, Coach Wyatt the OC plus countless other very good former OR staff on the football coaching staff....now toss in Principal Adams leaving and now Coach Mullins the AD.
What's going at OR?

Coach Mullins now at HVA?

Allrighty then,
Well, that's hard to do because so many guys (about 20) didn't do spring because of track. Qualifying for state track meet was last Sat. That would have left only 2 practices for the track guys to join in and there's a 3 day acclimation period. So we were missing alot of offensive and defensive guys that we are counting on. We only had 4 of our skill guys that will end up starting. 1rb, and 2 receivers and a corner. So, there really wasn't much they could do that would resemble what we will see this fall. But I will tell you what I saw.
The team went through their entire pregame routine just like they will on a Friday night. Then went into their position group drills. Then they put a defense out there and ran plays at it with no O lineman, basically 7 on 11 if you count the guy on a knee snapping the ball to qb. I thought the qbs made some really nice throws, not all of the throws were good, but when it was thrown to Heyward or Rogers or Ferrera it looked good. So, I guess what appeared to be bad passes or jump balls had much to do with who the receiver was. Then, they scrimmaged a little bit, but like YB said before, it was very vanilla, basic veer option stuff. So, in my opinion it is far too early to judge how this team will fare this season based on a glorified practice with most all our skill guys not out there.
I will just say there is a long way to go with this team. As usual, the biggest issue is O line. That group will have to come a long way between now and Aug. to be competitive with the better teams on our schedule. Skill wise this team is absolutely loaded. But we all know that doesn't translate to wins if you can't block people. Considering we had about 20 that didn't participate at all because track I thought it was a good night. It was good to see everybody out at the Ship to support these guys. Again, what we see in August will look entirely different than what we saw last night. This team will go as far as the OL can carry them, and that group has a long long long way to go.
Perhaps BoysfromSI can give us his take on the showcase. SI?
Most appreciated, sounds like it was a typical spring scimmage, sort of with a lot of the starters playing in other sports. You mention 20 in track, many of them are starters?

Only 3 important football players were at the track meet Saturday? Kelly, Hundley, and Williams. We are in trouble if 3 guys make or break this team.
Couldnt agree more.

In all serious, it sounds like Cummings tried to do everything he will not do in the regular season. Most of his pass game is short play action passes that catch you in the wrong spot, so deep balls seems like he either wanted to keep it vanilla as he can, or work on the things he knows his offense is the worst at...
If you run the veer, you have to be ready and able to throw it or you get beat all the time but he will use the hundley kid as a HB slot which will be most of his pass game and he was in track.
Heard there was a blend of those short out passes however the QBs failed to deliver on those as well. I think the word is most of the passing plays resulted in the QB standing around looking for someone to get open. Wasnt there but didnt sound very pretty for a pass completion perspective.

I don't know who you talked to but I don't agree with much of any of that. I was there. You have to remember that none of the guys that ran track were on the field. Very few starters out there last night. So, your source may not have known this and their expectations may have been a bit lofty. The team we see in August will be night and day from what we saw last night. Heyward and Rodgers were the two that stood out to me. They both look stronger and faster. #17 is junior Andrew Fererra.
Again, 2nd hand information.
Expectations were probably higher than normal but QBs making simple passes I guess is a normal expectation?
Track guys...that's right, but isnt that only 2 guys?
Would hope that the team in August is night and day to what I heard about the spring showcase.
Since you were there, can you provide a more accurate assessment?

OR Spring "Showcase" 5/17
Just curious, anyone attend the showcase? I heard a lot of mixed reviews but then again, it's Spring and not really a scrimmage per se.
Heard this: QBs aren't able to get the ball downfield, at all. Inaccurate and picked off repeatedly.
Offensive plays were basically jump balls and/or throw it down the field as far as you can throw it. Nothing looked tight, basically just a snap and QB standing waiting for someone to get open and massive heave down the field. Maybe a few receptions, more picks than receptions. Stale.
Lots of WRs but really only 3 that can run routes, catch and get up the field. I think we all know the 3 though heard that #17? was playing like it was real game. Smaller than usual but quick and tough.
1 punter who can absolutely boom the ball.
FG kicking wasn't anything to brag about.
Lineman were small aside from 1-2.
LBs were small and slower than usual.
DBs were tough to figure out since every pass was basically a jump ball.
That's about it.
Again, this is all second hand information but from what I gather, based on this info, going to be a very long season.

I was looking at the Freshmen roster on the football website and we have roughly 40 young Wildcats ready to begin the Journey to Champions. That is more than we have had recently, right?
Any Brandon Heywards in the bunch? Anybody who stood out for RMS or JMS last year? If I remember correctly Robertsville went undefeated in 2020.
Guys, I am really feeling good about all aspects of OR football. We have some extra special players ( Berven, Heyward, Jackson etc. ), size and ability in the OL / DL, a quality PK, solid competition at QB, several players who just need some game experience for them to explode into All Region type players, two quick and stout LBs, maybe three LBs if Jackson plays defense and hopefully Coaches who will repeat the job they did last season.
Don't be surprised if # 6 plays like Stewart / Preston did last season. Dude is Grinding hard.
Sure wish other people would start sharing some of their early expectations for Oak Ridge. I have talked to one of you guys and I learned a lot about the team. I am a lifelong learner so feed the beast knowledge. GRRRRRRRRR!
RWR!
There is no doubt, this team is going to be very special. Two big factors/questions:
1) Who is the OC now? Does he bring something new.....will the HC give him play calling opportunity?
2) Need to land and settle on the starting QB....and hope he keeps his job as starter. Last thing we need is rotational stuff all season long.
I think there are more kids on this team with D1, D2, D3 offers than the last several years....and they are spread across O and D.
I'm betting that they make a run to State again. RWR!

What happened to Wyatt?
Maybe I'm wrong but according to those on the inside, Coach Wyatt isn't the problem. He isn't the one how manages play calling and certainly wasn't the one to go with the triple option (whatever they did) at the state championship. I think Coach Wyatt did the best he could do given the circumstances. If he leaves OR for another coaching opportunity I wish him the best of luck. He is a class act.

After barely missing the Class 5A playoffs with a 5-5 record in 2017, Rodney Ellison has resigned as the head football coach at Powell.
Ellison posted a 8-23 record in his three seasons at Powell as the Panthers improved from 1-9 in 2016 to 5-5 last season.
“I have enjoyed my time at Powell. I’ve coached some great young men and made some lifetime friendships. We showed a lot of progress this past season and I’m sure the team will make a playoff run next year and I wish them nothing but the best,” Ellison said.
Before taking over at Powell, Ellison was the offensive coordinator for three seasons (2012-14) at Clinton and also served as the head football coach at Wartburg in 2011, leading the Bulldogs to the Class 2A playoffs that season.

Based on what i see on TNFCA, looks like TSWA is more legitimate. TNFCA seems more like it's trying to get a few from every team. The sports writers on the other hand don't appear to be interested in that sort of thing.
Nah, TNFCA is the more accurate one.
