  1. Hampton 59, Cloudland 44. Perfect season is over for the Lady Landers. Wow.
  2. D-B beat the Hill Friday night and Daniel Boone smoked West Ridge which sets up a potential crazy scenario. Dobyns-Bennett beats West Ridge this Friday, then the conference title is ours alone. West Ridge wins and Boone loses to the Hill, West Ridge and D-B are co-champs. West Ridge wins and Boone beats the Hill, all three are tri-champs with 2 losses. (so 3 of the four teams in the conference would tie for the conference title, and who knows how the district tournament seeding goes at that point)
  3. You'll have to be careful down in Cosby my man... hear they get a little rowdy down in those parts. Lol Maybe you'll get lucky and District 1 sweeps District 2 and the semis and finals get moved to Boone or West Ridge or something. I don't know a lot about D2-1A though.
  4. We beat Volunteer last night 61-39. Think the Lady Falcons had a solid record coming in. I think they should finish second to Greeneville in D2-3A. Frye had an MRI yesterday, but don't think she got the results back yet. She was on crutches last night. We're at the Hill Friday night in the next to last conference game.
  5. I didn't realize it till last night, but yeah, Hayworth is #2 now. He was #24. Hayworth actually does NOT play football. He is a stud southpaw baseball pitcher though. #2 used to be Tegan Begley who quit the team apparently. He is a football player. I am assuming Hayworth wanted #2 since his girlfriend (Caroline Hill) also wears #2 on the girls team. Hayworth is only a sophomore, so he still has two years left.
  6. The Indians should make it two in a row tonight against Volunteer.
  7. #2 does indeed play football. The crowd was sparse because the girls had a home game against Virginia state power Wise Central, which is where I was last night. D-B offers a season pass to home basketball games, so I am sure the folks who purchased one, like myself, was at the girls game.
  8. D-B beat Wise Central last night 53-45. Was up 16 at the end of 3. Quality win against one of Virginia's better programs. We may have lost something bigger though. Senior post Hannah Frye left the game with a knee injury last night and it doesn't look good. She is also one of the better softball pitchers D-B has as well signing to D-1 Gardner-Webb. Devastating to possibly lose the remainder of her senior basketball season as well as possibly all of her senior softball season.
  9. 8-11 as of right now. Will probably drop to 8-12 tonight, but should improve to 9-12 tomorrow against Volunteer. Remaining schedule: Tonight at South Greene Tuesday at Volunteer Friday at Science Hill February 6 vs. Morristown West February 9 at West Ridge February 10 vs. Gate City (VA) February 12 vs. Greeneville Volunteer is the only for sure win left. South Greene blitzed us at home earlier in the season without the Halls transfer. Rest of the opponents were close games the first go round except Gate City who we haven't played yet, but are one of the top teams in southwest Virginia this season.
  10. I went and watched Lyon County in the All A tournament this weekend in Corbin, Kentucky. Remembered this post from awhile back and thought I would comment. Perry is very good. Unfortunately all of the scoring came from him and #22 (Shoulders?) and they lost to Newport by 2. So, I have a hard time believing they can win the overall state tournament now if they didn't even win the All A. I think they'll make it to Rupp fairly easily though, because nobody in their region has been even close to beating them yet.
  11. Yep. Won't be at South Greene tonight though. Think I'd rather go watch the girls play tonight against Wise Central.
  12. Boone knocked us off on Friday which I expected was coming. Still a game up on them though and technically have the conference lead still with the head to head win over West Ridge. Got a big interstate matchup tonight with VHSL 2A power Wise Central. We lost to them by 5 at their barn a couple weeks ago. Emmah McAmis is a D1 prospect and will probably be the VHSL's all time leading scorer, male or female, by the time her career is over.
  13. Oh, Tegan Begley... Ok. Yeah, I don't recall him being mentioned now last night come to think of it. He's more of a contributor to the football team honestly anyway. Dang good football player, but does have a temper. Got ejected in the David Crockett football game. The one positive takeaway from these last few games I will say though is Dawson #20. Dude has stepped up his game big time here recently. Finally doing the things a 6'8 post should be doing. Very proud of his play this week. Jones #11 is also a prospect on the rise as well. With the JV drilling everyone they play, the future looks real bright. Poore is a good coach and does the right things. I'm sure, the personnel decision with Begley was probably accurate based on what I wrote above. We saw it last year with Gillespie as well. He made one mistake early in the season and got to sit till after Christmas. He made a second mistake right before the team made the trip to Murfreesboro and got removed from the team for it. It certainly cost us winning that first game in the Boro for sure and advancing further. But was it the right decision to remove him from the team? I think so. A lot of folks thought he should have been kicked off the team for the first incident. But I believe in second chances. He got the second chance and made another mistake. Bye bye. I'm sure everyone but me is saying this season is not a lost cause yet especially with a region bid automatic... but we'd have to win that first game in the district tournament just to avoid (most likely) Morristown East or Sevier County in first round of region play and beating them this season is quite improbable. I'm just not seeing anything that is telling me we can turn that around in two weeks before the district tournament starts, but if anyone can, coach Poore can. As for me keeping it honest. I do... Lol. It gets me in trouble quite frequently also, both on here and Facebook. I got kicked out of the D-B Football Real Talk Facebook group for keeping it a little too real this past season.
  14. D-B also beat Greeneville on the road though it was only by a point. We still have them to play at home in the regular season finale. I feel like if we can beat Boone Friday, then the conference title is ours even though we still have two more conference games after that. I'm still baffled how we beat West Ridge by 42. I'm ecstatic about it don't get me wrong. But they have three bigs ( a 6'4 and two 6'3) and we killed them on the glass. If I'm West Ridge coach, I can't be too thrilled about that. Having three girls that size at the high school level is a blessing. It'll be much closer at their place, but just don't see how West Ridge can be 42 points better the second time around. And Science Hill is clearly the worst team in the conference... only one good shooter. But that 1A conference when I get to watch it is fun. Loved watching Unaka when they had Ramsey. Never seen UH play though over the years.
  15. Who was the player who quit? I didn't notice anything different last night. D-B has one for sure win left in them this year (Volunteer next Tuesday) and maybe two if the Gate City game gets rescheduled, but I'm not so sure they can even win against them as Gate City is one of the best along with George Wythe SWVA has to offer. The rest is looking dismal. Going to be a one and done in the region most likely. It's pretty sad to see the TAC about 75% empty by halftime of the boys game these days.
  16. Dobyns-Bennett beat Science Hill by 27 last night to finish unblemished the first go round through conference play. We play Boone at Bobby Snyder gym on Friday. Lady Blazers will be much tougher this go round with the Flores girl. Plus Bobby Snyder is a tough gym to play in as it is.
  17. Oak Ridge didn't impress me in Arby's that much... Maryville did on the other hand... I think they'll head to the Boro this year if they can get through that murderer's row conference they're in. I don't thin anyone in Region 1 will have anything for them.
  18. I'm not so sure about that.... they only beat Dobyns-Bennett by 10 and that 5* was pretty well shut down for that game by the Lady Indian defense.
  19. UH and Hampton play Saturday. I would say that would be a hot ticket.
  20. Yep, didn't go so well as I reckon you've heard by now. That West Ridge fan running around the arena flipping everyone off and yelling profanities and taunting the student section sure was excited I know... Anywho... I almost shed a tear to see them celebrate like they won the state title beating a bad D-B team.
  21. I'd say this year, it's probably UH, Hampton, South Greene and Chuckey-Doak. Everyone else is mediocre at best.
  22. Dobyns-Bennett Lady Indians played perhaps the most perfect game I have ever seen them play over the years in dismantling the Big 4 favorite West Ridge Lady Wolves last night, 65-23. We got The Hill tomorrow and Boone on Friday. Boone will be much tougher this time around than when we beat them in Kingsport a couple weeks ago with the Flores girl now playing for them.
  23. 66-9? Man, I'd hate to see y'all have your best performance then... Lol
