I believe it's George Wythe and that tournament is annoying, it's set-up like Rucker Park basketball someone is on the microphone talking through the whole game, it's there to try to give the kids more exposure for college and BALLISLIFE is there with their film crew filming trying to help out
Oh Lord... I hate it already.
The FCA Northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia all star game is the same way. I love Gary Maggard, but wished he wouldn't do running commentary during the whole ordeal. Drives me insane.

The out of area talent this year may be the best it's ever been. I follow a lot of eastern Kentucky hoops as well, Harlan County is rolling so far. Looking forward to seeing them.

G-Dub will be no match for Mentor or Dorman. Dorman will wax them probably as much if not worse than they beat Abingdon a couple years ago, and that Abingdon team was excellent and 3A.
Don't get me wrong, they're good for their classification and are the favorites to win it all in VHSL 1A this season, but Virginia 1A is just no match for anyone in this tournament other than the other local schools. Never has been, never will be. The only VHSL 1A school who ever had a hint of success in this tournament was Council back in 2001.
Just this past weekend, D-B waxed Virginia High, who is probably one of southwest Virginia's better 2A teams this year. And this isn't one of D-B's better teams.

how was your experience at Meadowsview @TribalEmpire would love to hear. Hope it was better than my opinion.
Got there early enough to sit courtside both days, so it wasn't too bad. I wouldn't want that to be a regular venue for us though.
@StarBright87 I have on our schedule that we play y'all later in the season at the Bearcat Den in the Big Shots showcase, but someone told me the other day we were playing George Wythe instead. Do you know which is the case?

Anyone seen West play?
D-B has them tonight at Meadowview. I'm honestly not looking forward to tonight and tomorrow's games from a viewing perspective from those I've talked to who's been to the NAIA college games in that ballroom setup at Meadowview.
Guess I shouldn't knock it till I experience it for myself though.

Dobyns-Bennett popcorn and it's not close. Super buttery.
If we're talking concessions as a whole, by all costs.... AVOID Greeneville and Hal Henard Elementary. Popcorn is stale, pizza was cold and nasty when I was there Monday night.

No doubt about it, South Greene was just the better team tonight.
Me and my wife are good friends with Hayworth's parents. They told us that Poore instigated a new offense yesterday.
Not sure why they changed it up after a 5-0 start or what even changed about it. I mean, they still scored 70 tonight which is high for a high school team.
South Greene was deadly from deep. We were abysmal from the free throw line. Especially Dawson. Think he made 1-10 from the charity stripe.

Obviously didn't play very good defense. But I've said it before. Don't get bent out of shape about loses until after the Christmas tournaments. Poore's teams usually pick it up a notch or two around that time. Only one senior on this team. I suspect it will be rough going in the Arby's though.
Maybe in the Alpha too before the Arby's.

Yup, appears I under estimated the Rebels.
Pretty much kicked our rear ends start to finish.

They're fairly solid for a AA squad, but they don't really have that fire that your used to SG having. The times I've seen them so far, they aren't getting nearly as many of those 50/50 balls that a SG team typically gets.
Oops. Posted in the wrong thread. Meant to post in the boys thread. Lol

Only seen them in their opening game with Cosby. They’re solid, but I think you all would be fine. I’m sure that opening game isn’t the best indicator. But if you all are physical, especially on the boards I think you get a lot of easy looks. Cosby could have had a decent halftime lead if they had been able to finish anything at the rim in the first quarter that game.
Kinda what I figured. I expect the true first test for the Indians to come Monday night in Greeneville.

How are South Greene's boys? D-B plays them tonight in Kingsport.
-
I see a lot of chatter about South Greene's girls. Dobyns-Bennett plays them tonight in Kingsport. Kinda looking forward to this one.
Hope the Lady Indians shoot better than they did against Elizabethton the other night. That may be one of the ugliest shooting performances by both teams on the floor I have ever seen.

Not seen anyone mention South Greene. Sounds like they have a great team.
They play at D-B Friday... guess I will let you know then.

WR took Bearden into overtime today at East.
Heard about that. Heard the Wolves had them beat with a 6 point lead late in regulation but couldn't make a foul shot.

I know they played in boys Tuesday night at East. I saw that one. Don't believe they were scheduled to play in girls though.
-
Dobyns-Bennett started out the game last night 5-0 against Bearden and Natalya Hodge. Lady 'Dawgs then went on a 35-2 run.
Credit to the Lady Indians for never giving up and fighting back to only lose 59-49. Pretty happy with the effort the ladies put in last night against a good Bearden squad. Our run at the East tournament is over. We have Elizabethton and South Greene next week.

My church pastor's son plays for the Hill. He told me they would only be "marginally" better than last year, which tells me a little bit, but not much.
I'm interested in seeing how Cutlip does at Unicoi.

Why does Tabernacle get stuck in the play in game every year? I like the match-ups of local vs non local.
It's supposed to be a blind draw, but pretty sure Tabernacle is always going to be in one of the play in games. Not sure if it's because of the caliber of team they always bring (not the best to put it nicely) or what.
I was surprised to see Tennessee High in a play in game though.
-
Bearden is in the Sullivan East tournament this week though. I saw them last night against Tennessee High. Beat them pretty badly. Expected Bearden to win but not as bad as they did. They got a good team.

If Dobyns Bennett isn't in the conversations for another state tournament appearance then you are wrong.
Under Poore they are going to stay competitive. Ever since covid Memphis area has been in shambles and allowed the East to take a foothold in the state.
I never thought I would see the day, but it has happened.
They definitely looked better against North Greene than they did against Volunteer. They won their first game last night in Charleston and have another tonight and a third tomorrow. Tough to say what the competition is like down there, but I'd venture it's at least respectable or Poore wouldn't have scheduled the trip.

As a D-B fan, I am not expecting a huge challenge from Perry Central in the first game. Perry Central didn't even make it to the semifinals of the 14th region tournament in Kentucky last year, so unless they have improved greatly, it should be an easy first game win for the Tribe.
-
I plan on being back for every day, every game again after skipping out on the last three days last year.
Only day I may miss is if Duke gets in the bowl game in Charlotte or Annapolis, then I will be missing a day to go to it.

Oh yeah... I am aware of this for sure. The team that beat John Marshall this year was actually last year's Arby's champion Myers Park. John Marshall is going to be in Big Shots this year aren't they?
