I don't think an argument can be made against any of the finalists.  There are definitely other young ladies that deserve recognition but I would not take any of the current finalists off the list.

I could certainly get on board with adding two more finalists in every class.  Recognizing five finalists rather than three would not have any negative outcome.

Agreed, they even expanded the Oscars to being up to 10 movies from 5. And most districts/regions recognize 10 or more players each; surely 5 players per classification would be no stretch. And I am NOT a give everyone a trophy kind of guy, but I feel like 5 players in each classification would be more than worthy. Heck, would it be crazy to assure one from each area plus 2 "wildcards"?

Of course you will down there in the safety of the radio people. We can tee it up any time you’d like.  I’m claiming I could wax you without much of a problem. I’d play you for a 100 a hole straight up from the back tees with an automatic press when one of us gets 2 down and I’m not joking. I’ll put my money up fat boy you put up yours.

I have no idea what all that stuff means (I understand "100 a hole...straight up from the back tees..." but that "automatic press" stuff lost me), but pleasepleaseplease let me be there if/when you play!!!!

I can't agree totally... It seemed as if quarters 1-3 favored WV. As a netural fan, the refs missed several foul calls on WV. It was said that there was 25-26 foul calls on WV to SS 7... SS plays tough and tight defense but they really don't often foul. WV's coach teaches to keep a hand on the back of the opponents. There were a couple obvious pushes that should've been called. The big 7' 400lb girl from WV fouls all the time! She did in the game Monday night as well. They don't call that on her though. A couple girls from WV travels Everytime they touch the ball.

Now, the refs did favor SS in the 4th but I felt as if they deserved a little. It was overall a great game to me. Both coaches coached great. If SS hadn't have lost Miller, they would've smashed WV imo... She's worthy of 25-40 pts any given night! Prayers for her and best wishes to both teams!

You say "as a netural (neutral) fan..." but your bitterness by calling out a teenager would say otherwise.

They are one of the biggest in the region. According to TSSAA's report in October, Union City turned in an enrollment of 454. Gibson county turned in 481. Union City is 2A in football and they are one of the biggest schools in single A basketball. Union City has went back and forth over the years between Double A and Single A in all sports.

I absolutely agree with that. In that region Gibson at 481, Union City 454, Madison 450, and Halls 405. In your region Loretto 531 and Summertown 486.

And I understand Union City has been 2A before and 2A in football now. I don't always listen to that radio program, but i listened that morning and just thought it was odd Greenfield's coach made a point of saying 3-4 times that Union City was a 2A school or Union City is NOT a 1A school, something like that I don't remember actual quote now. I thought maybe he was just talking about football, but the more he talked about it the more I realized he was singling out Union City. It was just odd to me because I guess Gibson is most recent to drop down from 2A (did Madison used to be 2A also?? I really can't remember now).

Your making stuff up now. I didn't say GC to host it every year. I am just saying it is not morally right for any team including GC to play the district and the Region in a college venue and the other district have to come over and play in that college venue after playing in a HS gym. It is what it is. We get there we will be ready I will assure you.

My bad...GCPioneer said "Why not just play this tournament at Gibson County every year and spread the money evenly among the teams in the Region tournament..."

I honestly didn't mean to misquote you. I just forgot who had said what, because i entered this conversation late. I probably just should have stayed out of it altogether. Both sides have valid points. I just thought it was crazy to say one side has an unfair advantage BUT let's have all games in this or that high school gym.

Greenfield will never get to host a tournament and you know that. I just heard Loretto has over 500 students and do you hear anybody from Greenfield complaining about that. No and you won’t because we don’t make excuses.

We ought to be looking at this as a big advantage playing at the college and getting use to the wide open space and big gym.

Maybe not about Loretto, but I did hear your coach on the Coaches Corner show one Saturday talking about how Union City was obviously a 2A school. Not sure where he got those numbers, and he was probably only talking about the boys game in this instance, but it's not the first time he has made comments like this. And the odd thing is, Union City is not even the biggest school in the region...but again, as you said, none of those other schools on the A/AA borderline seem to get mentioned.

I don't think GC has a problem playing anywhere, any time. GC has held huge crowds and always has. Girls and Boys. But the fact that 13 A got to play their District Tournament at the same college venue that the Region is is totally crossing the ethical lines, IMO. Ought to be a bylaw that wouldn't allow it. But it is what it is and we will use it as motivation I am sure providing we get there. I think GC has been OK with it because they have a don't care who they play when they play attitude. How do you think Greenfield and 13 A would have reacted if 14 A was having all there's at the same college venue?  They wouldn't have allowed it.

But your solution (or bylaw even) would be to have one of the schools (Gibson County, of course) to host it every year?? Don't they practice daily in their own gym? And yet, nobody would bring ethics into it, I think. If we're working on the bylaws, my guess would be need to put something in there about playing all regional tourney games at a neutral site...maybe somewhere like a local college gym where none of the teams have "practiced" there, though we know most go there for summer camp anyway. Now if only there was such a facility around here that could host something like that...

And I'm not sure you can say Greenfield "wouldn't have allowed it" because that is voted on by the host district I think. There have been times one district/region has been held at Bethel, and now looks like UTM may get involved in the regional mix/rotation.

That’s is not true about AA ball!! AA is as tough if not tougher now than ever before! AA it’s no clear front runner this like in the past, but do that mean AA is down or do that simply mean AA is more complex this year? I am a firm believer until somebody beats the Defending champions they are clearly the front runner in back to back AA champions Upperman! Any top 8 teams that makes it to state will have a chance of taking that gold ball home!

Sorry, I was talking about West Tn ball there and just didn't make the distinction. AA is good but West Tn AA is nothing like it was when Obion, Westview, Gibson, Dyersburg, and Milan (who had some really good years there for a bit) were battling it out in the same district every year.

You don't get a trophy for being the regular season State Champion do you? They are more of a distraction, IMO to the players. Good for fans I guess.

No body said you get a trophy for it...and sure, polls may be "meaningless" to some and entertaining to others...kinda like CoachT message boards. Sometimes the comments on here can be a distraction also, but so is social media, video games, cell phones...heck, now I'm just showing my age.
