  1. Looking forward to what may be the State Championship match at 195 lb between Parker Peterson and David Harper...will they bump Peterson to 220lb? Saw where he wrestled at this weight against Bradley...will be a good one if they do square off.

It was a great win for the Irish.  No time to celebrate though as they battle again tonight, as Baylor and McCallie come to Nashville.  There will be some huge matchups tonight with State seeding implications.

Will Father Ryan stream these matches? Should be good ones....

It’s great that you know more than the ref AND the official scores keeper. I’d bet if someone was watching from Trackwrestling to make sure, just in case, there were no errors you now know more than them too.

So, you think it was a pin? Chittum’s Dad? I just tried to say it was a good match....

I will assume you have not taken the time to watch....

  4. It looks like Blair Academy is the Hamilton Heights of wrestling in NJ. What I have read shows Delbarton as the #1 team and St Joseph's as the #2 team in NJ. Does Blair have a post graduate program that does not make them eligible to competed in the NJ state tournament?

A very good showing by Baylor! They should be proud-

You sure about those two statements?  I have no clue on first item but I know we had some kids who didn't get in because they missed the state tournament due to health reasons and would have gotten in otherwise.  I just have no clue what National Preps opinion would have been.  On the 2nd item, I have been around DII a pretty good while and don't think athletes from TSSAA schools have been attending continually for 30 years.  I can pretty distinctly remember the first few years in recent history when TN schools started getting approval to attend within the last 5-10 years.  There may have been some time in distant history when some schools sent guys, but I would be willing to bet you some food at the state tournament that TN hasn't sent kids for 30 continuous years.

A little research out of curiosity.....

Looks like Baylor participated as early as 1947. This is a list (above link) of when teams first participated in the National Preps Wrestling Tournament:

    1947- Baylor

    1958- McCallie

    1961- Sewanee

    1966- Castle Heights Military

However....looking at the wrestlers that placed over the past 20 years. TN wrestlers have not placed (so making an assumption that there was no participation from TN) in top 8 from 1972-2014. in 1971 Brian Card-McCallie was a Champion and several others in earlier years with the Healy Brothers from Baylor, Weinbergs, etc..... Only in 2015 did TN wrestlers place (in recent history). This is not to say there was NO participation...but you would think at least 1 would have placed. Here is the complete historical list per National Preps:

    Baylor vs:

    Blair Academy (NJ)

    St. Joe’s Regional (NJ)

    Belmont Hill (MA)

    Delbarton (NJ)

Here is a link to the Blair Prep Duals...will be interesting to see how TN stacks up:

    https://intermatwrestle.com/articles/22846

I would hope that Baylor and Blair match up in Round #4, although it is not listed. Dendy Vs Chittum at 138lb  is what I would pay to see.....

This is posted on the Baylor Wrestling FB page:

    Update schedule for Blair Duals:

The schedule they posted is wrong though

    Here is the correct one:

Round 1 = Blair vs. Belmont Hill and Baylor vs. Delbarton

Round 2 = Blair vs. Delbarton and St. Joe vs. Baylor

Round 3 = Blair vs. Baylor and St. Joe vs. Belmont Hill

Round 4 = Baylor vs. Belmont Hill

  7. Baylor wins the Prep Slam at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School in Atlanta with 252 team points-

I could not find where Christian Brothers placed. I am sure I have missed a few as I looked at the videos from Flo Wrestling to get these results and what I could see off a FB post:

    Champions:

    106 Nick Corday (Baylor)

    138 Garrison Dendy (Baylor)

    182 Connor Duffy (Baylor)

    195 David Harper (Baylor)

220 Al Wooten (Christian Brothers HS)

    2nd:

    113 Jackson Bond (Baylor)

138 Aidan Bowers (Christian Brothers HS)

    160 Omaury Alvarez (Baylor)

    3rd:

    132  Noah Horst (Baylor)

145 Garrett Bowers (Christian Brothers HS)

182 Theo Sewell (Christian Brothers HS)

sad that the word "recruit" is being used in discussions about high school sports

With all respect.....I am not a wrestler, did not have a kid who wrestles, but love the sport and a big fan of this CoachT board and enjoy the banter. I have heard this topic surface on many occasions and have to laugh a little- I am sorry, but if you are a private school you have to recruit all students or else you do not have a school! I have been on the board of a private school and trust me, you have to recruit at ALL levels (Academically, Athletically, the Arts, etc....) or you can't fill the seats, or your teams! Often it is a great coach, or a very involved parent that helps to drive the effort and this is the mission of ALL private schools (academically, athletically, etc....)- and if you think your school is not "trying" to recruit, then you are mistaken....and if they are not trying to recruit, then that is a mistake of your coach and school, and that school may consider making a change in leadership.

So, the word "recruit" is used and OK to be used in the Private School DII setting, or else you would not have a school.....these schools are "recruiting" ALL students ALL YEAR long!
