Losing Coach Welch was a huge loss. One of best coaches in state.

Well the so called best coach in the state isn't doing very well at Tullahoma.... maybe he saw the handwriting on the wall at Macon

I was trying to remember if I’ve ever seen co-head coaches before. I can’t recall any in my 40 years in the game. Co-coordinators is fairly common nowadays. I’ve also seen a few situations where the athletic director was also an assistant football coach.

I've never seen it...ever ...in any sport

Off to a good start so far. I like our chances in the new district, but it's still too early to know much. Once the football guys get settled in, I think this will be a tough group. The lone senior is a great ball player (and an even better kid), and the junior class has a ton of experience as well.

Saw where PC destroyed then earlier ...

Id like to know who that team with 14 D-1 players is. Oakland getting to this point has been a process of over nearly 15 seasons, not something that happened overnight. Everybody sees what happens at the varsity level, but the reason Oakland is a power is the result of having a great feeder system from youth ball all the way to JV

Gentry has done a good job no doubt. If you follow football in this state, their ascension shouldn't be a surprise. They did benefit from playing in the worst region in 6A and maybe 5A too. I would counter with Gentry may not even be the COY in his own county, Crouch at GH is in the quarterfinals in Year 2

Gentry is COY in county...midstate as well...but he ain't beating Oakland.

Not true at all.... This team only loses one very talented senior but played underclassmen all year... mostly freshman... at least two started every game and 4 others saw significant action. Rodney Pile takes over a deep talented team that moves down in classification under the new 4 tier system...

Rodney Pile should have had the job last year.

Read my post again where I said "RANDOM"kids at "RANDOM" places and some schools excel at certain sports which skew the numbers.

Now with that being said name 3 more schools with 300 kids or less that would beat a William Blount size school on the regular?

    Memphis Mitchell, Middleton, Memphis East.

You pick your team from 300 kids , I'll pick mine from 1,500....you have no chance to beat me  in any sport 99% of the time. Now teams that are traditionally better at certain sports will draw better players to that school and away from others which will sometimes skew the percentages, but just random kids in random places Numbers mean A LOT!

All depends...if I'm coaching at Humbolt and you are coaching at William Blount I'll beat your brains out...every time...get the picture?

I hope that basketball, baseball, and softball goes to 4 classifications.  I know from a competitive standpoint it would really help us (Adamsville).  We moved up to AA by about 15 students.  We just dont have the numbers to compete with schools with 850-900 students.  I doubt it happens, but it would breathe some life back into our sports programs.

Numbers mean absolutely nothing...it's about developing players...period. I bet there are A schools that can easily beat 3A teams...only a small percent of your student body play sports in the first place.

Nashville has never been as good as West TN or East TN in basketball in my lifetime. (39)

Comparing anything to UCLA of the Wooden days is ridiculous. Everyone knows that basketball in Middle TN doesn't have much talent in AAA. They can't compete with Memphis when it comes to talent.

To be honest, if Memphis schools hired good coaches and could get the kids to actually be coached West TN would win AAA, AA, and A every year.

Pete Froedden knows how to build a program. However, he and other coaches like him don't always have the backing of the administration. I'll bet in 3 years Hillwood will be winning 18-20 games a year and competing for the district.

Memphis hires terrible coaches...or has in the last 20 years. Faragi Phillips is the cream of the crop down there.

    Hyperbole much?

Hillwood is a rotten school...don't let the community fool you...none of those kids go there...athletes bussed in...no connection to the community...Metro has sucked for the last 30 years. Maplewood a couple of years ago has been the only bright spot. Old Pete will really have to call on Coach Meyers old saying of making it the big time wherever you are...even when it sucks.

Pete did indeed get hired at Hillwood. Centennial whiffed with their first pick and lost their 2nd choice because of it. Running off Pete has turned into a bad situation for them.

Pete just hit the bottom of the barrel...but at least he is still in the barrel.

For what it’s worth, there was a former player from Wilson Central during the Bond years who became an Assistant for Bond at Oakland. I can’t remember his name, but I do know that he got in trouble and left Oakland. I believe it was something pretty substantial, but he’s now a coach at a prep school in Tennessee. Not sure if he’s an option, but I’d definitely look into it.

Depends on how "substantial" the trouble was.
