My understanding is they have to go immediately on a chop. Can’t pass set and then chop. WN will get chopped in this game. A lot! I remember a few years back when Rhea played OR with DM. DM got chopped a few times and called it a day. It is going to happen for sure.

It will be curios to see how the refs interpret it Friday night.

The key to stopping the WIng-t is getting in the backfield and disrupting the handoffs, Pal has big Walter Nolen, who is capable of doing that. The big mistake you make against the Wing-T is for the linebackers and corners to get caught peeking in the backfield looking for the ball, they have to stay with their assignments, if they miss an assignment on a pitch, it could go to the house, if the LB is gone the dive or double handoff could go and if they load the box and corners don't cover and its a pass - touchdown!  Rhea has to get up early, they need a turnover or two, and dominate the clock, otherwise if Pal.s offense gets on the field too much, over,

What is the rule on chop blocking.  I know teams that Powell have played and they chopped Nolan a ton, and got flagged for it almost every time.  I know Rhea chops a lot.  Is it if the D lineman is standing you cant chop, or if the D lineman is down they can chop?  I know you cant go high low, but that is not what was happening to Nolan.  They were just cutting his legs out from the start of the play,  Much like Rhea does.  Curios on the actual rule.

Josh is more likely to land at Lenoir City or Bearden, IMO. I don't see OR hiring a coach without HC experience. Successful HC experience.

Josh would stay with Powell before heading to LC...lol  and coaching at Bearden would be tuff.  Have to be in Maryville region.....no thanks... lol

Hope the DC prepares for the “tackle eligible”

If I were at Oak Ridge running the show you've already spilled to much blood all over the place forcing Joe to retire and letting an alumni that was a heck of a defensive coordinator move right next door to you so beware if you don't get a homerun hire about three years from now Jeff Miner is going to be kicking your azzes right up between your should blades and laughing while he's doing it. This mess is now to much out of hand to go after somebody that did it once but fell on their face somewhere else with a lot better toys and tools than Oak Ridge has. A place like Oak Ridge in the History of the State of Tennessee Football is like an Alabama  but needs a golden spark to return to it's glory days again but some money would have to be spent and I mean some good money but this would pay dividends like the 5 million Alabama paid Saban and you see how that paid off. This hire would be a Grand Slam and my friends and Oak Ridge would be a place where kids would come to play football if they got this person for sure. That stadium we've seen pictures of would also become a reality if this hire was made. There isn't a price high enough to have a coach that kids want to play for and the stands have 15,000 people at Blankenship Field like they did back in the 50's. Pay what it takes to get him here at all cost or refer back to my first sentence. That coach my friend is Bryson Rosser.

Rosser  and his  wife are not leaving HARVARD to come back to TN and coach a HS football team......

I really hate to say it but Rhea has struggled all year on the defensive side of the ball. They have had some games where they have played some solid defense but they seem to always have stretches throughout each game where they have total breakdowns. The Karns game was by far the worst but when you compete against a player like Bishop it really highlights all your weaknesses. Karns wasn’t the best team Rhea has played but Bishop certainly was the best player they have faced.
All that to say this-  yes Rhea has issues on the defensive side of the ball but they aren’t as bad as they looked against Karns and I expect the Eagles to regroup and play better defense this week against Powell.

    GO EAGLES!!

Karns put up 48 points vs Rhea with one player.....Powell has multiple Power 5 WR, good running backs, good QB.  If Karns did that to Rhea, it could be a very long night for Rhea.  JMO

Well it just showed you don’t get outside of Knox County at all.  Betsy (Elizabethton) is the defending 4a state champs that beat Rhea earlier in the year.  I didn’t bring up Betsy, another poster did and how he thinks Powell could beat them by 21+ points.  Alcoa and Betsy have been the two beat teams Rhea has played this year so trying to compare other teams.  Betsy is also we’re Jason Witten played and also the only school to win state when there was only 1 classification, something no other school can claim

    Good deal.

  9. 16 minutes ago, Swipes said:

Do you have a reading problem?  I said they wouldn’t beat Betsy by 21+ like the person I responded too said.  Karns didn’t even play Betsy and beat Rhea by 20 points so no I don’t think if Powell and Betsy played they would win by 21+ Or even if they would win at all

Who is Betsy?  This is a Rhea County vs Powell thread.....lol....I though you nicknamed Rhea County Betsy....lol  my bad....So maybe you can't read....Cause this thread says RHEA COUNTY vs POWELL....Not BETSY (who ever that is) vs POWELL....lol

Against the Wing-T, discipline is pretty much everything

Agreed, and Powell will make some mistakes (discipline) but not every time Rhea gets the ball.  And at some point Powell will go on offense, and according to Rhea fans.  There weakest part of there D is the secondary.  If that is true?  It will be a long night for Rhea.

  11. 1 hour ago, Swipes said:

Powell isn't beating Betsy by 21+ could they with the talent they have? Yes, but way to undisciplined to beat them by that and Betsy is way more disciplined .  By your math is Powell 41 points better than Rhea then since Betsy beat them by 20 earlier in the year?

Rhea only beat Karns by 15 or so......and Karns put up 40 plus......and you don't think Powell can win by 21 because they are not disciplined.....lol  If discipline is the only thing Powell has to worry about (according to most) then they will be just fine. lol

Here we go the 1 seed vs 1 seed. Powell offensively is best team we will play this year. While Rhea’s defense has to regroup after that performance. We better be ready for the pass this week and get plenty of pressure on Potts.

The offense for Rhea is clicking right now even with two of our better players injured.  We can win in a shootout, like the last few weeks or we can win systematically. We can slow the game down and score 35-42 points and play ball control and wear out the defense. We don’t throw it often, but when we do it usually results in a big play or TD. It’s going to take a complete game on both sides of the ball from here on put. If not we won’t be playing the next week.

One thing for Rhea not to get sucked into retaliating. It’s no secret that Powell is not the most disciplined team, but Rhea cant retaliate and run our mouths.

Rhea has zero chance of scoring 35 points on Powell.....lol  Powell strong suit is D-line and LB.  Rhea's offense plays into the hands of Powell defense. If they score 14 points I will be impressed.  JMO

I keep hearing Redmon is out Pops, but you would know that better than me for sure.  I still think McMinn will put up a good fight and make Plow earn it.  They just play sound and clean fundamental football and don't hurt themselves with penalties and mistakes.

No, he played last week vs Ooltewah.  Even had a TD.  He did sit out the last game of regular season vs Lenoir City.

McMinn has a nice football team.   I think they might give Plow a pretty good test.  They have a great athlete with experience at qb. Great runner and can extend plays.   They play very clean with few penalties.  They are quick and tough, very well coached.   I keep hearing that Plow might be without some receivers this week in addition to the one that Nolan carried off the field.  Should be a good 2nd round ball game either way.

Only WR our for Powell is Collins (because of injury).  All other WR and players are good to go.  Gonna be tough for McMinn County to run there option offense.  Especially up the middle.  Unless McMinn County does something other than what they have all year offensively.  It will be a long night for them.

I didn't say that they were struggling offensively. I said that they have struggled with offensive consistency. I'm specifically thinking of the Clinton and Halls games, but also some of the inconsistent offensive play-calling.

I know you probably have an opinion on this, but I'm not sure how Walter Nolan was named a Mr. Football semifinalist over Jordyn Potts.

Semifinalist for Mr. Football is a waist of time.  They just need to go ahead and ship the trophy to Bishop.  If he doesn't win it there is a def. problem with the voting system.  lol

To me, this McMinn County-Powell game has upset potential written all over it. In part because McMinn County is no slouch, but also because Powell has struggled with their offensive consistency all year; with Collins and Redmond out, that also takes some of the sting out of their passing game. Powell took care of their business last week, but Ooltewah was pretty terrible this year. It'll be interesting to see which Powell team shows up, because I think a lot depends on whether or not they are looking ahead.

Hopefully the loss to WV last year hasn't been lost on this team.

Threw 11 games Powell has averaged 37 points a game.  I guess it depends on who you ask if the offense is struggling?  Powell's defense is finally playing up to there potential.  With that said Powell wins by a lot.  May even be a running clock to start the 3rd.  JMO
