    Bad decision after bad decision.

The only way you lose that game was if Catholic blocks a field goal and gets the ball near mid field.  You have to try to punt it out if bounds and pin them deep there. A 45 yard field goal attempt is just going to come off the foot too flat.

Agreed!  Punt the ball pin them deep.  Catholic had no timeouts left.  Or give the ball to your offense (your best players) and go for it on 4th and 12.  The last think Powell should of done is try and kick a 45 yard FG in tuff conditions.  Powell's kicker is extremely talented and has a bright future!  I don't put that missed FG on him.  In perfect weather conditions that his a tuff kick for a HS kid, let alone in the rain and slick surface.

Powell's offense is struggling.  I think they are trying to please to many kids instead of just playing football.  I know it's hard to feed all those skill guys, but when your number is called you have to make a play.  Powell has gone away from a lot of things that made them successful.  It seems every game Powell is ALWAYS behind the chains.  Weather it is from a penalty, or from bad play calling.  Seems they are always in 3rd and 15+  very rarely are we ahead of the chains.  Powell is also very predictable on what they do on offense.  They see run working, and that is all they try to do.  They see the pass game is clicking and that is all they do.  They have to be more balanced for sure, and don't wait to take shots when it is obvious.

You are correct about the defense.  It needs a major overhaul.

And we all know your son is a tremendous QB and he seems to be a really good kid.  My advice to you as somebody who has been around high school sports as a media guy and as a dad for decades is to let him play and stop being a helicopter Dad.  He doesn't need that kind of extra pressure.

    son......?  LMAO

Potts = THE Powell Panthers. Got it. I’m sure the rest of the team appreciates this sentiment. Come on Pops, your boy is definitely good, but he’s not the whole team. Without a line to block, he has no time. Without the receivers he has, the stats don’t look near as pretty. An average qb would still look good with all the athletes he has around him.

I wish I was the kids daddy.....

I'm not sure where I've been "stuck" on Potts' mistakes. I simply pointed out the fact that Powell played a relatively clean, gaff-free game in response to someone who claimed that Powell played a typical sloppy, mistake-filled game. Potts has had a tremendous season so far, and he is an incredible talent. I'm not sure if you're his dad, or a close family member, but if something I said struck a nerve, that wasn't my intent.

If the attitude in the locker room right now is anything like what you're accusing me (and others) of, that is pretty telling. The defense has been flat-out terrible, but this team doesn't have a chance to galvanize or have any postseason success if they are constantly throwing each other under the bus.

"Potts didn't make any bone-headed plays"......This is what you said.....no nerve struck at all, just simply responding to your comment.  Also there is no need to speculate on the locker room talk, not sure how you twisted my response into "locker talk"

While I think that Potts is a very good high school QB, let’s not act like he ain’t got them dudes around him. Is he the same QB if he is at William Blount or Campbell County?

Last I checked those WR don't throw to themselves.  lol  Also are those WR studs if they had a William Blount QB or Campbell County QB.  It goes both ways, they all compliment each other very well.

That was actually one of the more disciplined games that Powell has played, believe it or not. Aside from the two Redmond penalties in the first half (which were both costly), they didn't turn it over at all, Potts didn't make any bone-headed plays, and they only had one other personal foul/unsportsmanlike penalty (in the 4th quarter); most of the flags were "effort" penalties. Cleaning that stuff up would not have changed the final outcome. The final margin, maybe. Maryville just could not be stopped, in part because they are Maryville, but also because the Powell defense is just not very good.

Keep in mind, this is the same undersized Powell defense that got shredded all year last year. The only difference is Nolen at DT, and good offenses can script a game plan to take him out of 90% of the plays.

Everybody is stuck on Powell QB making mistakes.  The kid was a Mr. Football Semifinalist in his first year starting varsity!  If not for QB Powell doesn't win a game.  The defense is absolutely awful, and has been for 3 years.  Imagine the pressure the kid is under knowing that his offense has to score every time they touch the ball to win.  So of course he is going to take risks, he has to!  At some point the defense has to take accountability for how terrible they are, and stop pointing blame at the QB for every little thing.  He has played lights out to start the year, and I don't see him slowing down anytime soon.  Oh....did I mention that the defense has let up 100 points this year so far.....meanwhile the QB has played PERFECT so far.  So stop making comments about last year performance at times, and know that players grow from year to year.  It is a new year.  MOVE ON!

Guys, I know folks seem to be in panic mode here, but Powell has just played 2 very good offenses. Yes the defense needs work, but how many high schools have balanced offenses with "very" good athletes like AC and Maryville? Stud running backs and passing games? You're not going to see many high schools that have both. Let's see what Karns can do with a "run only" offense. And the way things have played out so far in the region, I don't see a challenge, which gives them time to correct things.

Powell is def. going to beat Karns by a lot......but don't sugar coat it, Powell's defense is so bad it's actually offensive.  lol  if any team, pee wee, NFL, NCAA, intermural, or what ever......could not make ANYONE punt the ball, it is a problem.  Not to mention they have 3 POWER 5 recruits on defense.  No excuses on giving up 100 points in 2 games....period!  Change needs to happen ASAP!

The lack of an experienced DC is really showing right now.  That needs to be cleaned up and cleaned up in a hurry.

This week could be another 100 point total game with the offensive firepower Karns has in the backfield.

Couldn't agree more.  Lowe needs to take over the D, like NOW!  Not sure why the D is so bad considering most of the athletes that play on offense also start on defense.  Defense should have similar success?  The defense being so bad puts a lot of pressure on the offense to score EVERY time they get the ball.  Bishop may rush for 500 against Powell this Friday.....lol  I still think Powell wins convincingly by multiple TD's.  But man does Powell defense stink!

  9. Can Powell bounce back from Maryville game?  They got a lot of guys dinged up in that game, and some will be missing this weeks game cause of it.  Can Powell some how find a defense?  They have gave up 100 points in the first 2 games of the year!  Powell's offense is always explosive, but can they outscore everyone they play?

Well the first D held them to 17 so I was proud of that considering how good the talent is. Especially the Powell QB. But I’m proud of our little fellers, I guess Powell couldn’t name their score after all.

A lot of your first team played well into the 4th.  Now did all your ones play, probably not, but some did.  Either way Powell got smacked.  lol

This makes it seem like you think Powell and Oakland are comparable... which they ain't.

Not at all.  See prior comments.  My response was to the comment that Powell is going to get shut out and score ZERO points.  lol  Powell will score points but will LOSE the game by a lot......

2019, but we're definitely not the same team. You should follow the actions of your screen name...

Not to mention Oakland did it running the wing T.  lol Powell will def. score more than 7 points, as stated above.  A team from 2 years ago is comparing apples to oranges.  Way different.  I do believe it will be a good game, but Maryville def. will win this game.

  14. Figured I would start a new thread in English.....lol  Maryville is going to be fresh as a daisy Thursday night after playing the local middle school team last week.  Powell was in a 4+ hour game and it was a knock down drag out fight.  Will be interesting to see if Powell has any thing left in the tank on the short turnaround.
