I figure a few of us on here may as well just go to Wal-Mart, buy him a tent, sleeping bag, some kerosene, and chop up a few logs for him, because he’s gonna be camping out in our backfield all night from around 7/730 to 10 or so a few Friday nights from now, I’m afraid.

They really need a laughing emoji in the comments. That’s funny.

    All good points.

Do you think Powell's All American brothers will be factors? I saw an early Powell game and they didn't dominate. I do not think OR will so lucky.

I think Walter Nolan is definitely a factor, even if it comes in the form of someone else being left uncovered because he is double teamed. I feel like pretty much every opposing coach obviously knows to account for him and double team him or run away from him. I feel like his conditioning may be his weakest point so I’d guess If you can get beyond say…five yards of him, he may not be as likely to catch you, but I definitely think he deserves his accolades.

You are right that if Powell doesn't self destruct they have a good chance to win. I think more of the OR defense than you do, though. Hopefully, OR defense will have Rodgers, Jai and # 13 rested, healthy and ready to  go. Jackson should be better with 2 weeks of practice at LB.

For OR to win, two top notch LBs must pressure Powells QB all over the place, Rodger, Jai and 13 must play great coverage.

This is going to be a great game. Powell will be the favorite. OR has two weeks to prepare. I'll select the Wildcats to win.

I agree that if Oak Ridge’s defense can get enough pressure on Potts to cause him to start making some of those “trying to force it” type throws, and can disrupt things there, that’s gonna be their best shot. Going further with that thought, I think OR really has to capitalize on any mistakes that Powell makes. I feel like Powell will win this one pretty easily but I would actually like to see OR win.

Wait, why don’t you think Cleaveland  is  healthy?

Central and Bearden's stadiums have lasted this long because they have taken care of the place. I personally don't like the aluminum bleachers because of the heat they attract. I always wondered why Powell got rid of their concrete stadium which was built in the early 60's. I never saw anything wrong with it.

I love when we play somewhere with the old concrete bleachers. They are wide and allow for so much extra room for people to sit, not touching everyone else. They are amazing with the kids (as long as nobody falls) because they can sit all the way back and have their small toys with them. Strollers and car seats fit. I love it.

    It wasn't even close.

    Nice win Ads.

Thank Goodness for Brandon Heyward for being a mini Tee.

Get some sleep Wildcats. Keep your heads up and GRIND!

Y’all made that very scary for us at the end. There were a few of us that were lined up ready to go on the field at the end and for a few minutes we weren’t sure we should have. Great ending. I think both teams found some positives tonight.

Lol. I’m pretty sure Farragut usually does theirs in September.  Now you have me trying to remember. I know it was the sept 14th game in 2018 because I had just had a baby the night before and was watching from my hospital bed on my laptop and it was one of only two games I’ve missed since we’ve lived here. I think we always do ours pretty early in the season tho.

Also I feel that unlike with some other rivalries, Farragut and oak ridge actually have a pretty healthy respect for one another. I don’t think either team ever thinks it’s going to be an “easy” one even a “should be okay” one. I feel like both go in knowing they may be in for a heck of a fight and that’s one of the things I love about that rivalry.

Homecoming games are usually the next to last home game on the schedule because this allows more time for fundraising. And because the last home game is reserved for Senior Night.   So in this case it would make more sense to have it 10/15 vs Bradley Central.  So, maybe just a little disrespect intended.  No.  I'm just kidding!

When did OAK RIDGE become a Homecoming opponent?  Well, Farragut has decided to disrespect VictORy City and make our Mighty Wildcats Homecoming fodder.

I have NEVER liked FHS and this just adds to my fire. Kick their butts! RWR!

For what it’s worth, I don’t think it was intended with any disrespect to Oak Ridge. We have, I believe, three away games in a row after this so it’s just timing.

  10. This game could absolutely go either way. Neither seems to be doing as well as they had hoped at this point in the season. Farragut really needs a win but will they be able to pick their heads up after an 0-3 start? They have the ability but can they put it all together and get offense and defense to play well at the same time is the question. I think this game goes to whichever team makes the fewest mistakes, and has both sides of the ball show up to play.

Maybe it just seems like it.  Lol.  When you don't miss a game for 50 years they all start to run together.  Either way, it's a tough place to play and I hope our guys are up for the challenge.  I think both teams are improving and should make for a goodun'.  Can't get here fast enough.

50 years- that’s amazing! I’m excited for the game too. I think it should be a great game- it usually is. I’m not sure what to make of Farragut just yet. I feel like against Beech, our defense was keeping us in it but our offense was struggling a bit and then it was the opposite against West. Then of course Maryville was Maryville. So far it feels like we haven’t been able to get all cylinders firing at the same time.

Not exactly.  Region games are drawn for home or away at every 2yr cycle in most cases.  Non region games have to take place whenever both teams happen to have open dates non region that match up.  That's why we will be on the road at FHS 3 out 4 years because both teams value the rivalry and want to keep playing.   Clear as mud, I know.  Anyway, Cats will be there ready to rumble.

I don’t think it is 3 years at Farragut tho. This is only the 2nd year in a row we will be playing at FHS. We played two years in a row at Oak Ridge as well. Pretty sure it was 2018 and 2019.  Then last year and this year are at Farragut. Do you mean next year is also at Farragut?

  13. 15 hours ago, oridgecat said:

Seems like this is the third year in a row we play at Farragut?  I'm all for playing them, but not at there place every year!  The Cats will have to bounce back from an emotionally charged 4  qtr fight vs cross county rival, Clinton who was chomping at the bit to take down the 0-2 Cats.   Thank goodness they didn't get to celebrate on us, they probably would've torn down their brand new goal posts if they pulled it off. Lol.  Should be a great game at Farragut if the team can get there legs back in time.

I think the game was played at OR in ‘18 and ‘19 and at FHS in ‘20 and now in ‘21.  Not positive but I think the schedules are made in two year increments and somehow each school ends up being the Last year of one two year block and the first of the new block, and that’s how we end up at each for two years in a row versus just straight up alternating years. I don’t know if any of that makes sense written down!

Great perspective, Blue. Used to live in Hardin Valley, but I wasn't very close to the football program when we lived there. My observations were 100% from the bleachers.

To clarify, I’m not talking down on Coach Jones or Coach Potter, both of whom I think are very good men who truly love/loved their program and their players. Just stating my own observations. I don’t know if getting rid of Potter solves anything or not. I feel like the problems run deeper than just the coach. I would like to see someone work on building buy-in and excitement. I understand Potter is an old-school guy and is fairly traditional but I think the kids at the school need some hype, some flair, some of the things that don’t necessarily win games but start to build interest and  pride and excitement. That may not be something for the HC to take on but maybe the student section, or parents or other staff. Some traditions, some things to make it a football atmosphere if that makes sense.  I realize those things don’t win games but at the same time, we are talking about 14-18 year old kids. They still want fun stuff and want to feel excitement in the air. Maybe that brings out some more interest in football and then the coaches can go from there.

I don't know that HVA has necessarily taken a nose dive, but they have taken a big step back; 2016 was the only year they've ever won a playoff game, so it wasn't like they were wildly successful. Wes Jones did a great job building that program, and while they weren't flashy or world beaters, they were pretty consistent and pretty competitive. I mentioned this earlier, but it feels like the things that have plagued the Karns program for years are starting to creep up at HVA.

I think you have to give Potter another year or so to show something, but they just don't have any playmakers right now.

I don’t think they have as many playmakers as some of the other teams but they have some. They have Zach Passafume and Ryan Nichols, both pretty nice athletes and fairly underrated.  Of course the O line doesn’t do anyone any favors.

I think a lot of parents were getting frustrated near the end of the Jones era (one of my sons played there under him) because they felt like the program just wasn’t going forward or upwards and it was the same old,  same old. The OC wasn’t super well liked by a lot of parents. They were competitive in 2016 but that was definitely the highlight year of their program and didn’t really get close to that before or after. There was a lot of hope that Potter was going to breathe new life into the program. So far, I have only seen regression. I know their coaches are dedicated and love when they do, I really feel like there needs to be a major investment in changing the culture surrounding the program there.
