35-14 Greeneville! If DB struggles at all with Westridge next week they could be in for a long season!

"A hotel". For nine teams and all their fans, which many would need to stay considering how far Johnson City is from 75% of the state.
The bid process includes how many hotel rooms are available in the immediate area.
There are 30 hotels within 8-10 miles JC has everything you need. I understand that it will never be in Johnson City and will never be in Memphis either. They should keep biding it out till the Titans build their new stadium and be there forever, because Nashville is a "geographic anomaly" it 4 hours from everywhere!

I could see ETSU and Johnson City hosting this, the set up is perfect! there is a hotel right across the street, surrounded by restaurants, plenty of parking and a brand new stadium and the fact that ETSU will never get that far in the FCS playoffs for a conflict!

in my day, we didn't have no "cleats" or "pads" and our helmets were leather! and we didn't have no forward pass!! we just got the pigskin (it was literally made from a pig right before the game) and ran over everyone else!! oh, man those were the days. you knew you really played a game if you got a compound fracture!! and we didn't whine or complain. we just popped the bone back in and went back on the field!
just messin. : )
Ahh, back in the day when people could read a map, get a good joke and had feelings that didn't get hurt! People worked a job for 40 years and were good at it, loved their spouses, Jesus and their children. Yes I am an old curmudgeon and I like it.

I went to the game Friday and I must say Greeneville had no answers for Betsy! They got outcoached, out played physically and played with a chip on their shoulder. The difference between the two games was amazing! Good Luck to Elizabethton and i hope you all win the state but the other side of the bracket is a little tougher than the last few years. I don't like eating crow but sometimes you must.

Once order was restored in the force (the result of the first Greeneville vs. Elizabethton game) all is normal now in N.E. Tennessee.. I hope Elizabethton enjoyed there back to back titles because they may never win another one, Greeneville however will many more and another one in two weeks. Greeneville 42-21.

My heart says Westridge but my head says Cleveland. Cleveland 35-21

I read this past week that one of the West Ridge teams (JV or Middle School) went undefeated and beat DB...so WR may become the dominant 6A power in NE Tennessee...

Could you imagine Tom Taylor and Rick Spivey together.
They were together for years and they were great. Tom is a great play by play announcer and Spivey's brut honesty was refreshing!

Now that order has been restored in East Tennessee football. You could see Greeneville's win coming since last years playoffs. Good luck to both teams till we get to see the rematch in the playoffs except I get to drive to Greeneville instead of Elizabethton.

West Ridge will win their second in a row! 28-14
-
56-14 DB. That's all the analysis needed for this game.

Overrated - Science Hill...of course, it could still be their best team in many years, but that wouldn't really be saying much.
Real Deal:
* Alcoa - No surprise they won, but they brutalized a good Rhea Co program.
* Anderson Co. - Really good team who just ran out of gas.
* Elizabethton - I watched their junior and senior class when they were at TA Dugger and they crushed Robinson's teams. These guys are really good.
* Greeneville - Saw them against West Ridge and Central. They have a ridiculous amount of speed and a really good passing game. They may throw for 600 yards against Dobyns-Bennett.
* Murville - Same as ever.
* Powell - Very talented team who gets the ultimate test in East TN this week.
Better than expected?
* West Ridge - Yeah, it was hapless Volunteer, but still...
Spot on! Glad to see you hanging around on the other side of the state line.

Suppose to be the best SH team ever. We will all see. Elizabethton has lost a ton of talent and win state again but I am going with SH 35-21
-
QB is an O-Lineman playing QB, can't throw to well over 20 yards but they will run some teams to death. WR has been running the spread but with wing T elements mixed in, it should be fun to watch! I really don't think many guys from North are even playing so if the Central and South kids can get along they will be fine..
-
Going to be a long year again for East...34-7 Crockett.
-
OC Robbie Norris will pound Volunteer into submission early in the 3rd quarter, WR will howling after this one. WR 56 Volunteer 6.

I heard this morning that Sam Haynie is leaving for Science Hill along with his son an incoming freshman. The only other coaches I know for sure is Copas from North is on the staff.

LOL! I never said anything in my post that I wouldn't say to your face. You sound a little jumpy for a old man. I didn't like what you said and that's the reason I did respond. That's the way it works. Boy Ridgefields has gone down hill hasn't it. Maybe you have been to many DB games but you must be a heavy drinker because you don't have a clue about DB, players or coaches. You tell me not to worry about Virginia after you're the one that brought it up. And after I pointed out that Gate City is not a team you would want to use to compare DB to. They have won 5 games total in the past 4 years and just lost at home to a team in Feb. that only dressed out 17 players and brought along about 24 fans. I still say you're a Gate City homer.
I don't drink, never have and don't need too! Football is cyclical and always seems to cycle back so don't stick a fork in a down program too soon. I love your enthusiasm for DB but DB football right now is what DB football will always be and has been. Brilliant regular seasons and crushing disappointment every post season and you being delusional will never change that. DB fans live in a world of if's and but's and constant excuses and that my friend is stone cold fact! Ridgefields is fine I will probably see you mowing yards there while I am playing golf! Peace out!

As I was reading this post I was thinking, Yep! typical Gate City homer. Then I got to the sentence where you claim the last coach was better than the current coach and tells me you have no Ideal what you're talking about. (Is that you Clark?). Anyway I'll give GC props for winning a bunch of championships, even if it was just half the state. However your football program doesn't seem to be much to talk about anymore. I'm not sure they could stay on the field with Volunteer these days. Your basketball team has had a very good run the past four years but looks like that is over. DB will be just fine and compete with mid state. They just need improvement in one area. As for as the quality football players go the roster changes every year so there's no way you could even know that. And DB has had the roster to win a state championship several times in the past 20 years but didn't get it done because of that (coach they had before him). So you stick to your side of the state line and hang out with all the other tobacco spitters as you watch your football team struggle with Abington and Haysi or some other hole in the wall of South West Va. Have a good day and don't forget to feed the chickens.
I live in Kingsport have for nearly 40 years, I've probably paid city taxes since before you were born. I am a sports fan. I have sat many nights at J. Fred (rain, cold, snow) and watched DB constanlty blow leads and get out coached. My opinions are observation based during that time frame, if you don't like it don't respond to it. You would never talk to a person like that to their face so keyboard warrior on and DB has never even come close to sniffing a State Championship in the last 20 years. DB has had great players but just one or two at a time never the 6-8 you need to compete. And there are no chickens in Ridgefields! But they feed chicken in Greene County and 10 state titles later, maybe you should be more like them instead of worrying about Virginia..

And thats where you are wrong lol. Waco is probably the least positive about DB football out of all of our fans. So he definitely does not overrate us. Heck in Kingsport the Newspaper covers more about Gate City football than DB football. So go back to your little hole and hibernate. Winter hasn't ended for you yet.
The reason that the KTN covers Gate City so much is that they are very good in sports. 27 State Titles and counting. 5 State Titles in football at three different levels all won on the field not in a poll. DB will 7,8,9 games a year and lose in the second round of the playoffs. That is there ceiling period. The coach they have now isn't near the coach they had before him. There are not enough quaility football players at DB to ever win a state championship, the mid state is too strong and getting better every day. Enjoy your little corner of the state DB and be content with your lot in life an 8-2 season and constant playoff dissappointment!

Well you could kick the bucket tomorrow so your post is meaningless.
True enough! You are not promised tomorrow.

Westridge lost two incoming freshman players from South to Science Hill and a couple of the Central basketball players to Volunteer. DB will better than average but DB in my life time will never even sniff a football championship. They are and will continue to be the most over rated sports program in the history of the state of Tennessee. The big three are 0-fer at winning championships on the field of play not a newspapers opinion page.
1 hour ago, DBKPT93 said:Agree with the past two years. DB was the better team both games, and played lousy. Hopefully we can get some young kids ready to play this year, our schedule does seem to favor a rebuilding year, but there are a bunch of unknowns within our team.
On a bright note I heard from someone the other day that a tall receiver from Abingdon transferred in a few months ago. Not sure of his capabilities but the guy telling me about him sounded very promising.
Any word about any Sullivan county kids transferring in instead of going to West Ridge, I had heard a few were thinking about it, but wasn’t sure if any actually did.

Mo. East and Westridge will fight for the cellar in region 16A.
Greeneville @ DB??
in Class 5A & Class 6A
Posted
Here's my 2 cents worth, For the first time in a while this gamed looked like a 4A team playing a 6A team. DB looked bigger, stronger and faster than Greeneville and with all that being said it was still a 14-14 tie in the 3rd quarter. Greeneville will be fine in Region 1 4A and if they beat Betsy they will win the region and go deep into the playoffs. Who knows about DB, they are always chocking away football games. They could rebound and be okay or they could end up with 5 wins...
