There is still talent but based on middle school success their players in these 4 classes are nowhere near the caliber of the previous 4 classes.

Yep. Kids are like that. Unless some of those FHS kids have an unexpected bloom, I look for the Tigers to be mid level the next few years.

They take a step back this year. Graduated majority of there best players the last couple of years. The well is running dry nothing really coming up through the lower levels. They still will be easily favored to win the region as those teams just simply ain't got the horses to keep up. Playoffs will be when they get truly tested. Poor Scheduling 6 straight road games to start the year.

    Spot on

  3. I'm not convinced there's a widespread issue with deflating enrollment counts. Those 20-day enrollment numbers aren't just for TSSAA use but broader application. I suspect there's as much (or more) incentive to keep those numbers up as school district funding is based largely on enrollment.

@GeneralForrest  isn't alone on that assessment. Some fans are content with mediocrity and others are not. Forrest sandwiched the best team in school history between a 5-6 team and a 6-5 team. In 2018 when coach took over he was set up with talent especially in the 9th and 11th grade classes.  Those freshman are now seniors-to-be and this group isn't even in the discussion for 2021 as a Top 10 team in a weak 2A. They dominated the youth league and only lost to Fayetteville (all close games) in Middle School. The General's eventual End of Year review or Forrest 2021 thread will be a better place to discuss the coach's performance.

Agree.  They should have a talented group of players next year.

  5. A very talented group of athletes from SP. I expect you all will be in the hunt again next year as well.  As to it being an upset of the ages I'd disagree.  Fayetteville is what I'd call a 10 pointer team.  They raised their level (or lowered depending on your outlook) against the mid to upper level teams to win by 10 +/- 5.  I think if SP had scored 8 more FC would have put another 6 on the board.

And as was said earlier in the year, this group of kids have played and enjoyed success going back to the middle school years (starting with this group of seniors they were undefeated for 3 years running with conference player of the year every year as well I believe).  Sometimes kids mature differently, some players leave (and come back in this case), sometimes you get the lucky bounce or not, etc so nothing is a given.  But for folks who have personally watched these young men play over the years its not as shocking that they showed up to play.  And if it was luck or overconfidence or poor coaching decisions, well... you know I'll take the win that way too.

I'll also say a "Thank you" for the kind/positive comments from the SP fans on coacht.  Grace during a loss is always commendable and appreciated.  That speaks well of your people and program.
