How are all three of these true at the same time? They can't operate like the rest when they're doing something that has never been done before and for good reason hasn't been done.
My sons are better men for the relationships they had with Tony Rogers and Scott Cummings. If you send your son to Bearden with JJ as the head coach are you getting that byproduct? I wanted my sons to play football to become better men. Winning and creating conditions for young men to succeed through adversity is important but mentoring young people is more important.
Due to the administration’s inability to move pieces around in the school building they’ve decided to outsource the head coaching job to a former youth league coach. This has never been done in Knox County to my knowledge. I know coaches that wanted head coaching jobs who were much more involved at the school level but were rejected because they were TAs and not licensed teachers. I do wonder how parents at BHS will feel when this is announced.
@dawgs82 and myself thought it was going to be done last week with an internal hire. The rumor mill kicked a fuss about Cummings but that was hogwash. Then something happened after that and they continued interviewing for days. This has been a search fit for UT fans.
That is how this has played out. Yes, procedurally you are correct, the appropriate Knox County personnel will sign off on the necessary documents. This hire was pushed by the booster club for months.
Bradley and an out of state candidate will interview today. That should about wrap it up. Hopefully they will have a coach in place (Bradley) before Friday. Very interested to see how the pass heavy approach will look in 6A.
I agree with @HTV that hiring a head coach as a TA would be pretty wild but that is the position they have put themselves in. It isn’t the like the old days for sure. This is an easy hire for the AD. Bradley is a state championship winning coach. The folks in charge need to end this circus and move forward.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I mean they didn’t even bring an offense over here in August. No speed whatsoever. Defense was strong but had two stud linebackers graduate. Rebels will be licking their chops to get down Kingston Pike next year.
You should have seen the skeleton crew they brought over to West. They don’t have many coaches. I wouldn’t mind it if some of the kids transferred and found themselves on Sutherland.
The way I understand it is all Knox County schools have a designated strength coach if they hire one but she/he may or may not coach football. For example, Coach Holbrook at West does work with football so coordinating the strength training is easy. That may not be the case at Bearden.
