1. Dyersburg started off on fire in the first two innings and at one point was up 4:1 in the second inning. USJ responded with 8 runs to lead 9:4. USJ finished the game in the fifth inning 14:4.

Congrats to the entire USJ organization! Great effort, offensive and defensive.

Congrats to Hunter Smith for 3 run homer.

Congrats to Will Glenn, player of the game.

  2. QUOTE(forfeit @ Apr 10 2007 - 01:52 PM) 826434031First PT probably forgot more about the game than you will ever know. When a umpire makes a close fist signal it is a out. I don't know where you were taught the game but that means out in any level of the game and that was the signal.

Second you must not have read his whole post, cause he said Ripley did not get the low strike call unlike usj did. Read the post fully before you reply

Yo dude, chill. I'll take your word for it that PT knows baseball, however, I saw what I saw, and that was a ball not caught. I also saw a ump pointing at the ground. It does not matter now though, because it's in the books. Closed, official, and yesterday's news. I like to look forward to the upcoming games rather than continue to focus on the past.

I did reread PT's post and I still stand by my post, the ump called basically the same for both teams.

Despite what you may think, I actually have been pulling for many kids on both teams to do well. And by the way, someday I will tell you where I learned baseball and it might suprise you. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

    Good luck to both teams tonight, have a healthy game. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  3. QUOTE(purpletigers @ Apr 10 2007 - 11:10 AM) 826433910First of all Ripley killed themself with errors. On the other hand you could clearly tell who the umps were in favor of. Ripley could not get the strike @ the knees @ all USj got every call @ the knees. These kids have been taught that since they were in dixie to pitch @ the knees. So when our pitcher has to grove each pitch to get a strike sure you will get more hits.

For the fly ball hit to left when the player stood up he seen the ump give the out signal which in every game I have ever seen is a clinch fist which he did weather he caught it or not.

About the fans cursing I didn't hear any,but thats not to say there wasn't any. When USJ comes to Ripley they will get a Fair game from these officals here for sure.

Every time we have had the guy behind the plate @ USJ we have had the same thing favortism.

Worst Officating @ a High School Game I ever saw.

Man Purple T, if that's the worst officiating you have ever seen, you have led an extremely sheltered life. /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> True, the guy liked them low, but from what I saw, it was about equally bad for both teams. Don't fool yourself and think USJ only hit because of the ump behind the plate. I guess tonight with a different ump, USJ will not be hitting the ball, huh? I wouldn't bet on that.

As far as the immaculate catch, get for real. The kid never had the ball to drop. That's it. The ump pointed at the ground, but that was not even a factor until Coach Bridges brought it up. The real story is the kid could not catch it, and tried to con the umps. It just didn't work. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Maybe tonight we can have a game with no injuries, great umpiring, happy fans from both sides, and just some good baseball. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

  4. QUOTE(JoseWales @ Apr 8 2007 - 08:42 PM) 826432657USJ and Ripley should be in a good matchup. USJ's record 21:4, Ripley's record 17:3:1.

    Predictions? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

This game started out being all it was billed to be. A homer from each side, and some good pitching. In the end, USJ's sticks were just too hot. Final 12:2 USJ. New record USJ 22:4, Ripley 17:4:1. The game was overshadowed by an injury to one of Ripley's brightest stars, Zach Lewis. What appeared to be a repeat knee injury, but will not know for sure until the doctor's visit tomorrow. I wish you the best Zach.

Game two takes place in Ripley tomorrow night. Zach was scheduled to pitch, but that appears doubtful at this point.

    Anybody know more?

QUOTE(A_Alexander2 @ Apr 9 2007 - 08:38 PM) 826433466wow USJ over Ripley BIG... didnt see that coming.. thought Ripley had a better show over there... Who pitched for USJ?

    Gant pitched for USJ.

  5. QUOTE(forfeit @ Apr 3 2007 - 02:32 PM) 826429069A year make all the difference in the worldin high school. Josh should be playing in college not high school this is his 5th year as a player. You tell me if some of the other schools could take some of there best players and keep them an extra year who would have the advantage?

Yep, 8th,9th,10th,11th, and 12th make 5 years. Good math. That's not keeping them an extra year, it's starting them a year early. Every school in Tenneessee can do same thing, play a eighth grader. And plenty do.

Again, please show us the TSSAA rules prohibiting this. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

  6. QUOTE(forfeit @ Apr 3 2007 - 02:12 PM) 826429053I know for a fact that one of these seniors should already be out of school and one junior should be a senior. How old or what grade is this freshman supposed to be in?

Please quote the TSSAA rule specifing age guidelines for high school sports, so we can all see this rules violation that you are such an expert on. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

  7. QUOTE(CenterField13 @ Apr 1 2007 - 07:21 PM) 826427857Preston Overbey for USJ already has 7... as a FRESHMAN!

The number for Preston is actually 8, and you're right, he is very impressive. Especially if you consider he pitches as good as he hits. It's hard to imagine what the next few years will bring. /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

  8. Congrats to Bartlett. They are a fine team already. I predict a highly successful season with much post season success, if they keep their boys focused, which should not be a problem.

USJ was also undefeated in the Lewis Harris Tourny. Wins over Houston 13/3, Bartellsville OK 12/2, Munford 10/4, Cordova 4-3, and Collierville 13/0.

Any other undefeated teams in this tourny?

Ironically, USJ's (13:1) only loss on the season came to Bartlett. Both teams looking hot.

  9. USJ returns 6 starters from the '06 state championship runner-up team.

    Josh Lyles

    Will Glenn

    Clayton Gant

    Danny Grimm

    Preston Overbey

    John Wills

Four of these players started on the '05 state championship team. (Josh, Will, Clayton, and Danny)

USJ probably has one of the toughest schedules in the state, but that will only make them stronger.

  10. As for the AA all tourny team, how could you leave Josh Liles off of the team????? Speaking as a Covington fan and graduate, he was by far the best catcher in the field. He hit for a ridiculous avg. somewhere in the neiborhood over .500, dorve in quite a few runs, and was outstanding defensivly. Except for the few bad apples from my home town, I respect the kid for being a kid and being one heck of a ball player. He was a stud the first time I saw him play at 12, and he's still a stud going into his Senior year.

CHS, I think the tourney avg was over .600 for him. :thumb: Glad to see you recoginize talent from teams other than your own. Paying a compliment to another kid sure does not hurt your team in anyway. :thumb: Heck, the whole list is a matter of opinion anyway. Congrats to all the players on their championship! ;)

  11. So it's not your business if you have kids going to the school and the same rules for them don't apply to him? You get a life and start standing up for what is right in life.

You seem to think he got off light. You ever consider that he was penalized much worse than others in the very recent past? I know this kid and school, and even though he made a mistake, both he and the school have handled the situation in the best possible manner. Neither one had anything to hold their head down about. I am standing up for what's right, and that's a good decent kid getting picked on by some misinformed jerks who don't know the details, yet still want to pass hard judgement.

  12. Maybe, but answer the question. No logical answer is there other than "cover UP"

Dude, I know you didn't say logical! You're whining and crying over what a high school kid may or may not have done on a weekend? Get a life. Coverup? More like "none of your business". He is a kid, not a political figure running for office. :o

  13. Then why was he disclipined by the Headmaster as he was quoted in the Jackson Sun?

Judging by the responses above, there was no DUI, no stay in jail, etc... Geez... You guys sound like Dan Rather interviewing the President. You don't listen to the answers. Leave the kid alone, let it go and move on. You'll be better for it.

  14. Congratulations Huntingdon!!!!!!!!

JCS - A few sayings come to mind as your season ends.

    "What goes around comes around."

"Don't count your chickens before they hatch."

"He who laughs last laughs longest."
