Yes, unfortunately I lost all three (3) years to Milan, lost a tough one in 85. 14-13 on a controversial call on 1 yard line were Milan tailback tried to dive over top & fumble ball in mid air & I caught it and was going the other way & referee called a touchdown. That still hurts till this day, lol!!

Yea Earnest and Kacy were men among boys at that time. Seems like a few years before that Humboldt had a wide receiver I believe Tony Champion. One of the fastest guys I ever seen in high school. I think he went on to play at UTM and short stint in NFL.

I would like to hear details. All I know is that the score was posted on the TSSAA site as a Milan win 1-0. I assumed a Covid forfeit. What did I miss?

From what I heard they called about 3-4:00 and said they could not find transportation. Milan offered to provide transportation and they declined.

Humboldt will be OK, they have a lot of 9th & 10th graders playing right now and won game against Bruceton but had a lot of penalties. Also, three (3) starters on offensive line didn’t play so Coach Pettigrew is trying to instill discipline with the team on & off the field. All I’m going to say is that if Coach Pettigrew can keep this team improving they have a lot of talent coming from middle school. I predict the Vikings will get five (5) wins this year!  The first game against Grace was actually closer then the score, Grace returned three (3) turnovers for TD’s. Humboldt had to many mistakes that game & still had over 545 total yards on offense & could have won.

Good to see maybe things are going in the right direction for their program. Milan and Humboldt used to have some good rivalry games.

Y’all each picked up a forfeit win in week 2. It will be interesting to see how this game goes, with only one game under your belts. I know Milan will be favored, but it is an inter-county rivalry. Stats and power rankings give way to competitive feelings.

I will pick Milan by 7.

Yea it doesn’t matter who may be better when we meet. Strange things can happen. Should be a good game for sure.

I am not saying Fayetteville is better but they do have a heck of football team. The arguably have the best skilled players in the state 1A. Great Defensive line and very good offensive line and seemed well coached.

Sounds like it would definitely be a good game if both teams make it that far.

Trenton is a great team but you guys are overlooking Fayetteville. They will have a big say in who represents the west this year. I am going to go on record and say Peabody will not mercy every 1A team they face. If they do I will gladly comeback and eat my crow.

I agree they won’t mercy rule everyone and they can be beat any given night if they don’t come to play. I admit I have not seen Fayetteville play but if they are better than Peabody then they have a heck of a team.

Milan would not win state if we were in 3A either. Just being real. We can all agree that Trenton is on different level than most all teams if not all. Not that they can’t be beat. But Alcoa is entirely on a different level. Now could Trenton do the same as Covington and give them a good game. Yes. However Alcoa has a passing game now to go with everything they have every year which puts them on a different level than when they played Covington. It is what it is. Maybe I’m biased because they beat us so many times but I bet a lot of people on here would agree if being honest.

I know this thread is supposed to be about Trenton and Westview. If Simpson has time to throw they could definitely beat Trenton. Simpson is a special talent. That’s a big if and I don’t see it happening. I think he will be running for his life all night.

Peabody could win state in any of the classification from 1A-3A and would compete for 4A title.  Peabody has won 4 of the last 7 state championships and haven’t lost a game since like September. Along the way they have beaten teams from 1A-5A including defending champions of pervious years. So till Peabody is beaten they will continue to he the heavy favorite for ALL there games they play.

No disrespect to Trenton. They probably would keep it close maybe but they would not win state in 3A.

Too much time on my hands...Part II.

Last week, I looked at Sonny Moore's ratings/predictions for games involving teams from Region 7-4A.  This week, I'm looking at Moore's ratings/predictions for all of the games involving our teams from rural West Tennessee.

I rounded all ratings to the nearest whole number, and as Moore suggests, I did add 2 points for home field advantage.  It should be fun to see how accurate his predictions might, or might not, be.

Some of the point spreads are insane, but I would hope coaches would give their younger players an opportunity to play once their wins are secure.  So, I wouldn't look for any kind of point spread accuracy in those games.

I also looked at Massey's match-up tool last week.  If I have time, and that is a big if, I might look at his predictions for this week's games as well.

I also looked at Max-Preps. I know you will like this, BPM. Here is their list for your 12:

    1. Milan

    2. Peabody

    3. Henry County

    4. Covington

    5. Haywood

    6. westview

    7. S. Gibson

    8. Dyersburg

    9. Hardin Co.

    10. USJ

    11. McKenzie

    12. Dyer Co.

I acknowledge that I don’t know the criteria they use but this looks like evidence not to go by there ratings. I’m pretty sure unless I was dreaming that I watched Trenton beat Milan this past Friday.

McKenzie is absolutely a tough team. First game they played last year was 35-21. Second game was the OT thriller. I think McKenzie and Peabody have been in the same region so long that they have become very familiar with each other. Usually they play twice a year. I think the fact that they won’t meet til playoffs definitely works in Peabody’s favor.

I can’t argue where you have everyone now. I guess the two big question marks I see is South Gibson and Covington. How good really are they? Haven’t heard much about South Gibson this year but as much as a Milan fan hates to say it they just keep winning and will probably be right there in the end. For Covington we may not know until Dyersburg or playoffs with weak 3A in west.
